UNIVERSAL MAN?
By Richard Davenport-Hines
(William Collins £9.99)
John Maynard Keynes is best remembered as an 経済学者, but even he 設立する 経済的なs 'a technical and 複雑にするd 支配する'.
Luckily, this brilliant biography does not ぐずぐず残る on Keynesian theories, but on the seven lives of the man behind them as altruist, boy prodigy, 公式の/役人, public man, lover, connoisseur and (外交)使節/代表.
In one 役割 he went on art-buying sprees, once to Paris to buy Impressionist 絵s for the 国家の Gallery.
He (機の)カム 支援する with several 作品 for himself - 製図/抽選s by Degas, two by Delacroix, and a Cezanne in his スーツケース.
'It was too 激しい for me to carry,' he 発表するd. 'So I've left it in the 溝へはまらせる/不時着する, behind the gate.'
Whether he is recounting tales of Keynes's art splurges, 明らかにする/漏らすing his 会員の地位 of the 隠しだてする discussion group - the Apostles - while at Cambridge, or 簡単に 公式文書,認めるing how much he detested nail biting, Davenport-Hines does an excellent 職業 of bringing Keynes's unfailing spirit and dynamism to life on the page.
