存在 a good 伝達者 does not mean talking 非，不，無-stop at people, assuming that they find what you’re 説 fascinating. It’s as much about 存在 able to concentrate on what others are 説 and listening to them 適切に without

HOW TO ACQUIRE A ‘WAY WITH WORDS’

Read as 広範囲にわたって as possible. This is an excellent way to 改善する your vocabulary and will do wonders for your imagination.

? Choose a newspaper or magazine as different from the usual as possible. If you read the 経済学者, try Hello! If you like the women’s 週刊誌s, have a flick through Vanity Fair. Or read a 調書をとる／予約する genre you have

never tried before.

? Crossword puzzles, word searches, anagrams, quizzes, riddles and Scrabble can all help to 増加する your vocabulary and 高める your

literacy 技術s. 目的（とする） to do one or more puzzles a day, and 変化させる the ones you

try.

? Every day challenge your mind to make a long 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） and keep 追加するing to that 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） all day. For example, 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） as many birds, trees or flowers as you can.

? Make a 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） of five important events in history and 令状 a short paragraph about each event, explaining why it should be considered the most important. You can do the same with famous people, 調書をとる／予約するs, 冒険的な events or poems.

? Play Call My Bluff. Take turns to choose an obscure word from the dictionary and come up with three possible meanings. Two meanings should be 偽の, but 配達する them to a friend or 同僚 with equal 有罪の判決. Their challenge is to guess the 訂正する one. Your 目的（とする） is to be so

納得させるing that they can’t guess.

? Learn a new word a day and make sure you use it at least twice in conversation that day.

? Read an article in a newspaper and paraphrase (summarise) it in five short 宣告，判決s.

? Find different ways to communicate. 選ぶ up the phone instead of sending an e-mail, speak to the shop assistant you 普通は ignore, join in conversations at work. Interact with friends, family, 同僚s and the world around you. Make sure your 発言する／表明する is heard.

Practise these 演習s in communication:

1. Try playing charades to 高める your 非，不，無-言葉の communication 技術s.

2. Play ‘Just a Minute’, talking about a 支配する ― any 支配する ― for 60 seconds, without hesitation, deviation or

repetition. This will 高める your ability to communicat e 明確に and concisely. If you are playing alone, use a tape recorder to 記録，記録的な／記録する what you are 説, then play it 支援する to analyse

your 業績／成果.

3. 令状 a short paragraph that
