We need values-first capitalism: Chalmers

Treasurer Jim Chalmers wants to reset Australia's 勝つ/広く一帯に広がるing 経済的な narrative and 可決する・採択する a new model of capitalism that's more closely 提携させるd with the nation's values.

In a 6,000-word essay to be published in The 月毎の magazine, Dr Chalmers has 輪郭(を描く)d a 詳細な計画 for Australia's 経済的な 未来 that calls for a 劇の rethink of the status quo.

He says Australia's economy has been left 攻撃を受けやすい after repeated shocks - the 全世界の 財政上の 危機, the pandemic, and now out-of-支配(する)/統制する インフレーション.

And these 障害s won't stop coming - Dr Chalmers says we're moving into a "polycrisis" 時代 that will see separate shocks, such as 気候 change and the ageing 全住民, coalescing so that "the whole is even more 圧倒的な than the sum of its parts".

The "消極的な form of 供給(する)-味方する 経済的なs" 流布している in 前進するd economies, characterised by "a race to the 底(に届く) on 給料 and public 投資" and "more market to いっそう少なく", won't 削減(する) it in this time of mega 脅しs, he argues.

"The old mental models died hard, even while they were shown to be so 不十分な for the new problems they left us: 技術s 不足s, an 老年の care 危機, energy market 大混乱, 沈滞した 給料 and not enough to show for a 一兆 dollars of 負債."

Moving 今後, and ahead of Labor's second 予算 in May, the Treasurer wants to see "values-based capitalism" ensconced as the new 経済的な paradigm.

This model, he says, nods to the (疑いを)晴らす link between 経済成長 and democratic 安定.

"By failing to put values at the 最前部 of how our economies work, we also leave behind reams of wasted talent, a degraded 環境 and social dislocation - all of which 脅す to 減らす the pr oductive capacity of our economies and ability to create 'value' in the first place."

特に, Dr Chalmers sees value in 衝撃 投資するing and wants to build the market 枠組み to funnel more 私的な 資本/首都 into areas like 老年の care, education and disability.

He says co-投資 is a powerful 道具 and pointed to the Clean Energy 財政/金融 会社/団体 as an example of this model's success in the clean energy 移行.

"We will 雇う this co-投資 model in more areas of the economy, with programs already under way in the 産業, 住宅 and electricity 部門s."

He also says there's a 役割 for regulatory 改革(する) to design markets that 機能(する)/行事 効果的に and funnel 資本/首都 into answers to Australia's "集団の/共同の problems".

Strong 会・原則s will also play a 役割, which is why the Labor 政府 is working to "renovate" the Reserve Bank and "revitalise" the 生産性 (売買)手数料,委託(する)/委員会/権限.

"My 楽観主義 doesn't just come from the beginning of a new year, it comes from believing that, まっただ中に all the difficulties, 2023 will be the year we build a better capitalism, uniquely Australian - more 確信して and 今後-thinking; more 提携させるd with our values; based more on 証拠 and 正直さ; more 有能な of building resilience not just building 衝撃を和らげるものs."
