Big day for Jason Day, 支援する 急に上がるing as Open 走者-up
Jason Day couldn't やめる make it Jason's day at the British Open - but the 若返らせるd Australian superstar was still left thrilled after joining a host of legends with his 近づく-行方不明になる at 王室の Liverpool.
The Queenslander couldn't hide his delight and pride at again 存在 支援する in a major dust-up as he finished in a four-way tie for second place at rain-sodden Hoylake on Sunday.
But while American Brian Harman was running away with the Claret Jug in the 運動ing rain, winning by six 一打/打撃s, the 35-year-old Day was left with the not insubstantial なぐさみ of joining an エリート club.
For by finishing 走者-up, he now matches a host of luminaries - Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, Phil Mickelson, Greg Norman, Louis Oosthuizen, Craig 支持を得ようと努めるd and Dustin Johnson - as just the ninth player in the game's history to be a 走者-up at all four majors.
同様に, of course, as winning one.
And though he never looked like 追加するing to his 2015 PGA 肩書を与える as Harman 支配するd, his 戦う/戦い for second place with Korean Tom Kim, Austrian Sepp Straka and Spain's Jon Rahm - one which 最終的に ended all square at seven under - there was 普及した delight at the popular 人物/姿/数字 rediscovering the form that once made him world No.1.
"I am happy," Day, also 走者-up at the Masters and US Open in 2011 and the PGA in 2016, said.
"Considering my play over the last month and a bit hasn't been that 広大な/多数の/重要な, and I didn't have the greatest 信用/信任 coming into this week, to be able to finish tied second was nice.
"Unfortunately, I hadn't played that 広大な/多数の/重要な in the majors this year, so it was nice - just the slow, 漸進的な 増加する in 信用/信任 through good play."
Day knew, like the 残り/休憩(する) of Harman's pursuers, that only a 崩壊(する) of Greg Norman-like 割合s from the American would give anyone else a chance to 勝利,勝つ, but he was still 失望させるd he didn't get a little closer after a final two-under 一連の会議、交渉/完成する of 69 that featured four birdies and two bogeys.
"I wish I would have 削減(する) into the lead a little bit more," he said.
"You just never know. When someone has such a 広大な/多数の/重要な lead, and then you 肉親,親類d of 削減(する) into it, you just never know what they're going to do under the pump."
But while Rahm and Straka got to within three 一打/打撃s, Day couldn't get closer than six.
There was just a moment, though, after 行方不明の the green, when he 配達するd one of the 発射s of the day - a 半導体素子 from 33 feet that flew over a (船に)燃料を積み込む/(軍)地下えんぺい壕 and rolled into the 穴を開ける for a second straight birdie - when a Day 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 looked on the cards.
When he sought more inspiration, though, he could find only solidity.
一方/合間, Cameron Smith 屈服するd out as 支持する/優勝者 Golfer of the Year with a smile in the rain after 解雇する/砲火/射撃ing a final-一連の会議、交渉/完成する 73 to finish at one over.
"It was awesome 存在 支援する. I would have liked to have done a better 職業 at defending it, but, yeah, just wasn't my week this week," said the 29-year-old, who finished tied for 33rd と一緒に Adam Scott, who 完全にするd his 23rd Open with a two-under 69.
"I can't wait to get 支援する here next year and give it another 割れ目. It's ゴルフ that I've learned to love, even while wet through."
The big let-負かす/撃墜する for the Australian challenge (機の)カム with Min 支持を得ようと努める 物陰/風下's last-一連の会議、交渉/完成する 低迷 to finish at two over.
After lying 共同の-fourth with Day at halfway, the rising 星/主役にする from Perth looked wet, bedraggled and just a bit fed up as his three last-一連の会議、交渉/完成する birdies were 相殺する by seven dropped 発射s in his 75.
"It was pretty 残虐な out there. Didn't really have the mindset of it 存在 that wet for that long," he sighed.
"All day we pretty much had the umbrella up."
