Australian gamers 転換 from megabytes to 'live 活動/戦闘'

A high-pitched 叫び声をあげる pierces the 空気/公表する as a "zombie witch" in a dirty, white dress sprints 負かす/撃墜する a street at a Sydney university, hair whipping around wild 注目する,もくろむs as she chases a group 猛烈に 緊急発進するing to get out of her way.

Welcome to "Zedtown" -- an adventure event where competitors play out a zombie apocalypse: people race to reach an 避難/引き上げ point to 確実にする their 生き残り, but must also 避ける 存在 caught and turned by the "undead".

述べるd interchangeably as a 巨大(な) game of zombie-主題d tag and a 'live-活動/戦闘' ビデオ game, the events capitalise on an 現れるing legion of gamers who have grown up 戦う/戦いing 事実上の enemies on computer 審査するs -- and now want to experience such fantasies in real life.

"It's a 広大な/多数の/重要な feeling having hundreds of fully grown men and women running away in 合法的 恐れる from you. It's really exhilarating," the woman who plays the zombie witch, Katerina Halkeas, tells AFP.

"ビデオ games themselves are becoming so much more immersive. And then when you have something like this, it's really the next step," 追加するs Halkeas, who took her inspiration from a character in the "Left 4 Dead" ビデオ game.

But unlike computer games, in real life players can't 攻撃する,衝突する pause or pull the plug, or even 長,率いる to the 洗面所 without 危険ing their "lives". They have to keep running to escape the 脅しs in the game, 追加するing to the 高くする,増すd intensity.

The events kicks off with humans, dubbed "生存者s", より数が多いing zombies, though all that is 要求するd to turn someone into the undead is to tag or touch them.

Both 味方するs are in an assortment of 衣装s and in high spirits. The organisers 追加する jeopardy at the start of the game by anointing a small 派閥, who appear to be 生存者s, as secret zombies. This, players say, (種を)蒔くs 不信 and quickly swells the number of those 追跡(する)ing, versus the number of those 追跡(する)d.

- Adrenaline 急ぐ -

"You find yourself talking to people you wouldn't have さもなければ spoken to and relying on those people for your life and... you form 激しい 関係s quickly," says Zedtown creator David Harmon, who has 計画(する)s to roll out the event in other cities.

仕事s and challenges are 始める,決める for people to 進歩 through the event space, and to try to make sure they don't 簡単に stay hidden.

As 不明瞭 落ちるs, 緊張s rise and the 階級s of the undead thicken -- いつかs 詠唱するing "one of us" in hordes to 脅す the few remaining 生存者s as they make a last-gasp 試みる/企てる to reach the 避難/引き上げ point.

"Emotionally, it's an 絶対の 急ぐ," says player Ian Kilburn, whose long, tattered 黒人/ボイコット-hooded cloak "Death" 衣装, which 含むs a sickle 投げ上げる/ボディチェックするd over his shoulders, is 井戸/弁護士席-known の中で Zedtown 関係者s.

"I've always been blown away by the 衣装s and the 成果/努力 that everyone goes to to make it a very fun experience," he tells AFP during the Zedtown game held at the University of New South むちの跡s.

Such is the 需要・要求する to play, tickets for the most 最近の event at UNSW, which cost Aus$45 (US$34) each, sold out within minutes.

- Entertainment and escapism -

狙撃 games such as レーザー tag or paintball have been around for some time but Zedtown taps into a 傾向 blending vintage ビデオ game 概念s with reality.

Pokemon Go, which is based on ソフトウェア first 開始する,打ち上げるd in 1996 for Nintendo's iconic Game Boy console, uses players' smartphone cameras and 衛星 場所 to enable them to see 風刺漫画 monsters to 逮捕(する) -- in real-world settings.

Escape the Room computer games such as the Submachine Series and Mystery of Time and Space, where players have to solve riddles and puzzles to reach the next level and 最終的に leave, have spawned physical adventures -- known as Escape Rooms -- where 関係者s are locked in a room and have to solve problems to get out.

The next 世代 of games though, will see 反対/詐欺s umers playing in the physical world but immersing themselves in settings and against 敵s in the 事実上の world, 産業 専門家s say.

Oculus 不和, the 事実上の reality system and headset owned by Facebook, was 解放(する)d in the US in March and the UK in late September to favourable 消費者 返答s.

"VR isn't a thing you do, it's a place you visit," one gamer said in an online review of the US$599 装置.

Tim Ruse, 長,指導者 (n)役員/(a)執行力のある of start-up 無 Latency, says he has seen 抱擁する 利益/興味 in his 会社/堅い's 事実上の reality system.

Competitors -- 冒険的な headsets and carrying backpacks with a computer 同様に as 偽の guns -- enter a large 倉庫/問屋 and 調査する different ふりをするd settings. These 含む 戦う/戦いing zombies, an arcade-style game where you defend a fort, and an outer-space 探検 シナリオ.

Just a year after 開始する,打ち上げるing in Melbourne, 無 Latency are 拡大するing their model to the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs, Spain and Japan at Sega's amusement park in Tokyo.

"I guess humans have always -- from storytelling to cinema to gaming -- sought to 除去する themselves from reality," Ruse tells AFP, 追加するing: "I think this next 世代 of fully immersive experiences are that next level of entertainment or escapism."
