推定する/予想する the 予期しない in judo at the Rio Games
LONDON (AP) ― When the judo events kick off at the Rio de Janeiro games, the home team will send out a defending Olympic 支持する/優勝者 on the first day of 競争.
With five other 最高の,を越す-階級d judoka on its Olympic team, Brazil has a 特に strong home advantage. Although judo has 伝統的に been 支配するd by the Japanese, who created the modern 戦争の art, the 戦闘 sport has become truly 全世界の/万国共通の. That means the Japanese team, which won only a 選び出す/独身 gold メダル at London in its worst-ever Olympic showing ― is no longer the favorite.
Marius Vizer, 大統領,/社長 of the International Judo 連合, said he 推定する/予想するs to see more 予期しない 勝利者s at Rio.

"I think Mongolia will be the big surprise of the Olympic games," he said. Vizer also 公式文書,認めるd strong 闘士,戦闘機s from the U.S., Greece, Georgia, F rance, Russia, Cuba and South Korea. There will also be two 難民 competitors, from the Democratic 共和国 of the Congo, competing under the International Olympic 委員会 旗.
Vizer said some 支配する changes to judo ― 含むing the 無法者ing of 脚 得る,とらえるs ― were made to distinguish the sport from others like 格闘するing and will hopefully 奮起させる more 闘士,戦闘機s to 試みる/企てる the big throws judo is known for. Fights can be won 即時に if judoka flip their 対抗者s flat on their 支援する "with かなりの 軍隊 and 速度(を上げる)."
While some have 非難するd the 支配する changes arguing that they 好意 the Japanese style of judo, which 焦点(を合わせる)s on throws rather than the 基礎 構成要素 of judo, Vizer said the tweaks are necessary to modernize the sport.
Countries with a strong 格闘するing tradition, such as those in Eastern Europe and Brazil, have typically produced judo 闘士,戦闘機s who 勝利,勝つ once judo 闘士,戦闘機s 結局最後にはーなる on the ground. That's when competitors struggle to either pin their 対抗者s for 20 seconds or 軍隊 them to tap out by 適用するing a stranglehold or an armbar, a move where the 四肢 is hyperextended to the point it might break.
RETURNING STAR
Frenchman Teddy Riner is 簡単に the most successful judoka of all time. The 27-year-old heavyweight has won a 記録,記録的な/記録する eight world 選手権 肩書を与えるs, five European 肩書を与えるs and two Olympic メダルs, 含むing a gold at the London games. At 6-foot-8 インチs, Riner strikes an 課すing 人物/姿/数字 on the judo mat but moves surprisingly 急速な/放蕩な for a heavyweight. Riner tends to 支配する by throwing his big 権利 arm over his 対抗者's 長,率いる to take 支配(する)/統制する of the fight, and very few of his competitors have been able to 妨げる Riner from 安全な・保証するing a 支配的な 支配する on their uniforms.
BEST RIVALRY
A fter becoming the first American to 勝利,勝つ a judo gold メダル, Kayla Harrison will be looking to defend her 肩書を与える in Rio. Her biggest roadblock might be longtime 競争相手 Brazilian Mayra Aguiar, who 敗北・負かすd Harrison at a Paris 競争 earlier this year with a match-ending throw. The two have now fought 16 times ― and 分裂(する) the victories 平等に. At a world cup final in Sao Paolo several years ago where Harrison won over Aguiar on 刑罰,罰則s, she was booed by the 地元の (人が)群がる. Harrison 述べるd Brazilian judo fans as "wild" after the experience. "Good thing I don't speak Portuguese, because if I did, I might cry."
OLYMPIAN EFFORT
Two judoka 競技者s from the Democratic 共和国 of the Congo will be fighting as part of the IOC 難民 team in Rio. Yolande Bukasa Mabika will be competing in the women's 70-キログラム 分割 and Popole Misenga will be fighting in the men's 90-キログラム 分割. The two are 現在/一般に training in Brazil. Misenga sought 亡命 in Brazil when he arrived to compete in the world 選手権s 存在 held there and credits the technical training he has received with making him a better 闘士,戦闘機.
"You can't let people think that just because they are 難民s, they have to stop what they're doing," he said. "Even though they are 難民s, they need to continue practicing their sport."
