Shah leaves Iran as 1979 革命 ぼんやり現れるs
EDITOR'S NOTE: On Jan. 16, 1979, Iran's powerful Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi abandoned his Peacock 王位 and left his nation, never to return home, setting the 行う/開催する/段階 for the country's 1979 Islamic 革命 a month later.
His 出発 and the 続いて起こるing 大混乱 blindsided the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs, which for 10年間s relied on Iran and its 絶対の 支配者 as Washington's closest 中東の 同盟(する). Washington sold billions of dollars in 兵器 to the shah, whom America 権力を与えるd in a 中央情報局-支援するd 1953 クーデター, and 駅/配置するd 極度の慎重さを要する 秘かに調査するing 駅/配置するs in northern Iran to 監視する the Soviet Union.
The shah's 出発, 最初 述べるd as a "vacation," (機の)カム as he was fatally stricken with 癌. His arrival in America after months abroad would 誘発する the U.S. 大使館 引き継ぎ/買収 and 人質 危機, stoking the animosity that 固執するs between Tehran and Washington to this day.
Now, 40 years later, The Associated 圧力(をかける) is making its stories about the shah's 出発 from Iran 利用できる, along with historic photos from that climactic day. The stories have been edited for typographical errors, but 持続する the AP style of the day, such as using "Moslem" as …に反対するd to イスラム教徒.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, a weeping king driven from his kingdom, flew his 王室の jet out of Iran Tuesday on a 旅行 from which he may never return.
His 出発 始める,決める off an 爆発 of joy by millions of his people. If his 勝利を得た 敵s have their way, the shah's flight means the end of 君主国 in a land 支配するd by kings for 2,500 years.
Jubilant Iranians 注ぐd into Tehran's streets, singing and dancing, 元気づける each other in 祝賀 of victory in the 血まみれの year-long popular struggle against the man who has 支配するd their nation since 1941.
"The shah is gone forever!" they 詠唱するd.
運転者s honked horns and flashed headlights. People waved portraits of Ayatollah Khomeini, the bearded Moslem leader who 保安官d a 幅の広い political and 宗教的な movement that 軍隊d the shah from the country.
But not all Iranians rejoiced. 外交の sources said プロの/賛成の-shah 兵士s 解雇する/砲火/射撃d at デモ参加者/実演宣伝者s in northern Tehran and there had been some 傷害s. The 報告(する)/憶測d 暴力/激しさ pointed up the divisiveness that remains in Iran and may foreshadow continued 流血/虐殺.
The 59-year-old 君主 took the 支配(する)/統制するs himself and 操縦するd his "Shah's Falcon" Boeing 727 ジェット旅客機 into the 有望な skies over Tehran and on to Aswan, Egypt, where he was welcomed by 大統領 Anwar Sadat.
He is 推定する/予想するd to stay there for a few days before 飛行機で行くing on to the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs for what is 公式に 述べるd as an "延長するd vacation." 報道によれば he will 会合,会う in Aswan with former 大統領 Gerald R. Ford , who had long been scheduled to 会合,会う with Sadat there.
大統領 Carter said in an interview 空気/公表するd Tuesday night by NBC News that he thinks the Soviet Union, Iran's neighbor to the north, wants 安定 in Iran.
The broadcast was taped Saturday, before the shah's 出発. Carter said a change in 政府 in Iran "doesn't mean Iran will no longer 存在する."
There was no 公式の/役人 Soviet comment from Moscow. A 派遣(する) とじ込み/提出するd from New York by Tass, the Soviet news 機関, mostly 引用するd Western 圧力(をかける) 報告(する)/憶測s, but also said the 君主 left "like a 逃亡者/はかないもの, without a pompous sendoff and without an 名誉として与えられる 護衛する."
At Tehran's airport, two 王室の guard officers fell tearfully to their 膝s to try and kiss the shah's feet as he 近づくd the 計画(する) ramp, an 目撃者 報告(する)/憶測d. He told them to stand, and the officers then 解除するd a copy of the Koran, the Moslem 宗教上の 調書をとる/予約する, over their 長,率いるs as a canopy under which the 王室の couple 機動力のある the ramp, the shah in a dark 控訴 and winter coat, the 皇后 Farah in fur hat and collar.
The 君主 - "Shah of Shahs," ''中心 of the Universe, 影をつくる/尾行する of the Almighty" - left behind 粉々にするd dreams of glory for his Pahlavi 王朝 and a volatile political 状況/情勢.

THE SHAH IS GONE

Jubilant Iranians danced in the streets of Tehran Tuesday, 詠唱するing "The shah is gone" as word spread 速く through the 資本/首都 that the 君主 had left the country.
Their joy spread to other parts of the Arab world and to Paris, where the shah's arch 敵, Ayatollah Khomeini, 迎える/歓迎するd the news with the Moslem 表現, "God is 広大な/多数の/重要な."
Statues of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi were pulled to the ground in Tehran, and some Iranians 削減(する) his portrait out of banknotes.
Horns honked, パン職人s gave away 解放する/自由な cakes and cookies, and Iranians 捨てるd candy into passing cars. They ぱらぱら雨d each other with rosewater as they heard that the shah had slipped out of the country and flown to Egypt.
Throug hout Iran, 元気づける デモ参加者/実演宣伝者s held aloft portraits of Khomeini, the self-追放するd Shiite Moslem leader who directed the 宗教的な 対立 to the shah. He has 公約するd to 設立する an Islamic 共和国 in Iran, where more than 90 パーセント of the 全住民 is Moslem, as is the shah.
The shah, under withering 宗教的な and political 圧力, left unannounced 早期に Tuesday for Egypt and is 推定する/予想するd to go to the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs. He said his 出発 was for 医療の 治療, but there is wide 憶測 he will not return.
When the shah arrived in Aswan in southern Egypt he was 迎える/歓迎するd by small (人が)群がるs along the 大勝する he traveled with 大統領 Anwar Sadat.
In Tehran, the joy was mixed with bitterness toward the man who had held 事実上 絶対の 支配する.
"We hope the next 国家の 政府 will be able to bring the shah 支援する and put him on 裁判,公判," said Hamid Shahbazi, a student.
"We'll be happy when the shah is dead," said a girl who gave her 指名する as Nistanish.
Other Iranians 表明するd hope their country could return to normalcy after a year of anti-shah strikes and 暴動ing that took at least 1,500 lives.
"First of all I hope the oil 労働者s go 支援する to so I will be able to buy some 燃料 oil for my central heating," said Alsofah Niasi, a housewife.
In Damascus, Syria, where 270 members of the Palestinian 国家の 会議 were 会合 to discuss their goal of an 独立した・無所属 Palestinian 明言する/公表する, the news of the shah's 出発 供給するd a distraction.
"Everyone is happy," said Mahmoud Labady, a 広報担当者 for the Palestinian 解放 Organization. "We see the victory in Iran as a victory for the PLO too. It shows a 傾向 in the Middle East against American 利益/興味s and 影響(力)."
There was no 公式の/役人 comment from Moscow, but the Soviet news 機関 Tass, 引用するing "目撃者s," said the 君主 left "like a 逃亡者/はかないもの without a pompous send off and without an 名誉として与えられる 護衛する."
In Paris, 得点する/非難する/20s of Iranian 追放するs turn the knobs on shortwave rad ios, looking for Iranian broadcasts. They had heard the news on French 無線で通信する, but many said they wouldn't believe it until they heard it from home.
The 78-year-old Khomeini, who has lived in a modest 郊外住宅 in a Paris 郊外 since Oct. 6, made an 外見 Tuesday afternoon and was swallowed up in a 渦巻く of admirers as he crossed the street to the 操作/手術s house where he 用意が出来ている messages to be beamed at Iran.
