UK's 首相 asks EU to 延期する Brexit until June 30

LONDON (AP) - British 総理大臣 Theresa May on Friday again sought to 延期する Brexit until June 30 to 避ける a 大混乱/混沌とした 撤退 from the European Union in one week, although a 重要な leader of the 圏 示唆するd an even longer pause in the difficult 離婚 訴訟/進行s.

The question over タイミング is 決定的な because Britain is 始める,決める to leave the EU without a 撤退 取引,協定 in place on April 12 unless an 協定 is reached at a Brussels 首脳会議 始める,決める to take place two days earlier.

In a letter to European 会議 大統領 Donald Tusk, May asked for an 拡張 until the end of June and agreed to make contingency 計画(する)s to 参加する European 議会 選挙s on May 23-26 if necessary.

An earlier British request for a 延期する until June 30 was 拒絶するd last month, まっただ中に rising irritation from EU leaders about the political 大混乱 in London. There also having been 増加するing 恐れるs that the longer the U.K. stays, the more it will 妨害する EU 政策s and 計画(する)s.

Tusk 提案するd a longer time でっちあげる,人を罪に陥れる Friday and he 勧めるd the 27 remaining EU nations to 申し込む/申し出 the U.K. a 柔軟な 拡張 of up to a year to make sure the nation doesn't leave the 圏 in a 大混乱/混沌とした way that could 土台を崩す 商業 and 傷つける many EU nations.

Two EU 公式の/役人s said Tusk wants a one-year period, which has been dubbed a "flextension," and hopes to get it 認可するd at the EU 首脳会議 on April 10. The 公式の/役人s spoke on 条件 of anonymity because they weren't 権限を与えるd to 公表する/暴露する (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) before it was made public.

Such a move would mean that the U.K. would need to 参加する the 選挙s to the European 議会, something May has long argued would not be in either 味方する's 利益/興味.

The 選挙s 提起する/ポーズをとる a 相当な つまずくing 封鎖する because Britain would be 推定する/予想するd to take part, if it is still an EU member, so its people have 代表 in the European 議会. 公式の/役人s worry that the legitimacy of European 会・原則s could be 危険にさらすd if the 全住民 of a member 明言する/公表する is not 伴う/関わるd in the 過程.

EU nations already have watched nearly three years of political 苦悩 over Brexit.

French 大統領 Emmanuel Macron has thus far seemed cagey about giving Britain more time, 説 the 圏 cannot be held 人質 by Britain's political 行き詰まる over Brexit.

There are also 関心s in Europe that some British 政治家,政治屋s who want to 刺激する a "no-取引,協定" Brexit might try to make trouble from inside the 圏, a course that outspoken Brexit 支持する Jacob Rees-Mogg 示唆するd Friday.

He tweeted that "if a long 拡張 leaves us stuck in the EU, we should be as difficult as possible."

The 保守的な Party 国会議員 示唆するd using Britain's positon to 拒否権 any EU 予算 増加するs, 封鎖する the 設立 of an EU army, and make it impossible for Macron to 押し進める その上の EU 統合,差別撤廃.

One EU 外交官 said that there was rising 関心 の中で member 明言する/公表するs that they would not get "sincere 協調" from Britain, which could 傷つける how the 圏 機能(する)/行事s.

"There are important 決定/判定勝ち(する)s to be taken after EU 選挙s," said the 公式の/役人, who spoke on 条件 of anonymity to comment on の近くにd-door 会合s 準備するing for next week's 首脳会議.

There also were 恐れるs about a 大混乱/混沌とした Brexit on April 12.

There are 関心s that such an abrupt 出口 without a 取引,協定 could lead to 経済的な 減産/沈滞 and a 決裂/故障 in food and 医療の 供給(する)s as 国境 checks and 関税s are 追加するd 夜通し. 大規模な traffic jams could also be 推定する/予想するd on 主要道路s 主要な to major フェリー(で運ぶ) ports.

The コンビナート/複合体 作戦行動ing on dates comes as Britain's 議会 considers 法律制定 designed to 妨げる such a "no-取引,協定" 出発.

Britain's upper House of Lords is 始める,決める to 再開する 審議 on the 手段 Monday. It was 是認するd earlier by the lower House of ありふれたs by just one 投票(する).

にもかかわらず the 明らかな support in 議会 for a new 法律 to 妨げる a no-取引,協定 出口, the 決定/判定勝ち(する) is in the 手渡すs of the EU, not Britain. It is the first country to try to leave the 圏, and the formal "Article 50" 出口 手続き has never been 実験(する)d before. All 27 nations have to agree 全員一致で on an 拡張.

The Europeans would prefer that Britain not 参加する the European 議会 選挙s if it is going to leave. April 12 is the last day for Britain to signal whether it will field 候補者s.

May said in her letter that Britain is reluctantly ready to begin 準備s for the European 選挙s if no Brexit 取引,協定 is reached in the 暫定的な. She said she is making the 準備s even though she believes it is not in the 利益/興味 of either Britain or the EU for her country to 参加する because it is leaving the 圏.

May's 撤退 計画(する), reached with the EU over more than two years of 交渉s, has been 拒絶するd by the U.K. 議会 three times.

She is now 捜し出すing a 妥協 in a 一連の 会談 with 労働 Party leader Jeremy Corbyn and his 副s, with hopes of winning 対立 support for a new 離婚 取引,協定.

The 会談 do not seem to be 前進するing. The 労働 Party said in a 声明 Friday it is "disappointed" that May's team is not 申し込む/申し出ing real change.

"We do need change if we're going to 妥協," said Keir Starmer, the party's Brexit 広報担当者, Keir Starmer, said, 追加するing that 労働 wants the 会談 to continue.

If the 会談 don't work, May 計画(する)s a 一連の 投票(する)s in 議会 to see if a 大多数-支援するd 計画(する) can 現れる.

Ideas 存在 discussed 含む keeping Britain in a customs union with the EU after it leaves the 圏, 同様に as the 可能性 of a second 国民投票. There is 猛烈な/残忍な 対立 from Brexit 支援者s in the 保守的な Party to these 選択s.
