Computer plate umps 許すd in new labor 取引,協定

NEW YORK (AP) - Computer plate umpires could be called up to the major leagues at some point during the next five seasons.

Umpires agreed to 協力する with Major League Baseball in the 開発 and 実験(する)ing of an 自動化するd ball-strike system as part of a five-year labor 契約 発表するd Saturday, two people familiar with the 取引,協定 told The Associated 圧力(をかける). Plate umpire Brian deBrauwere wore an earpiece connected to an iPhone in his pocket and relayed the call upon receiving it from a TrackMan computer system that uses Doppler レーダ.

The 大西洋 League 実験d with the computer system during the second half of its season, and the Arizona 落ちる League of 最高の,を越す prospects used it for a few dozen games this year at Salt River Fields.

It is not (疑いを)晴らす whether the Major League Baseball Players 協会 would need to 認可する computerized ball and strikes.

"We are aware the umpires and MLB are in 交渉s over a new CBA," said players´ union 長,率いる Tony Clark, a former All-星/主役にする first baseman. "MLB will have their 交渉 with them, and they will need to discuss with us."

Several AFL prospects 賞賛するd the TrackMan system for calls on the inside and outside corners but said it struggled with breaking balls low or high around the strike zone.

Humans still will be needed to 決定する checked swings and to make sure TrackMan doesn't call a strike on a pitch that bounces and goes through the strike zone.

There were 1,356 ビデオ reviews during the 2019 正規の/正選手 season, taking an 普通の/平均(する) of 1 minute, 16 seconds. MLB said 597 calls or 44% were overturned, 277 or 20% 確認するd and 463 or 34% 許すd to stand because there was not enough 証拠 to 確認する or overturned. The remaining 19 calls were for 支配するs checks or 記録,記録的な/記録する keeping.

As part of the labor 契約, the 味方するs agreed to raises in 補償(金) and 退職 利益s along with 準備/条項s to 許す earlier 退職.
