WASHINGTON, July 28 (Reuters) - 大統領 Donald Trump was speaking hyperbolically when he 攻撃するd out at a 目だつ African-American 国会議員 by calling his 地区 "disgusting, ネズミ and rodent infested," his 事実上の/代理 長,指導者 of staff said on Sunday, 否定するing the comments were 人種差別主義者.

Trump had attacked U.S. 代表者/国会議員 Elijah Cummings, a 支持する/優勝者 for civil 権利s, in a 一連の tweets on Saturday, after the 国会議員 had 非難するd 条件s at U.S. 施設s 住宅 migrants along the Mexican 国境.

"No human 存在 would want to live there," Trump said of Cumming's Baltimore 地区.

White House 事実上の/代理 長,指導者 of staff Mick Mulvaney defended the comments during 外見s on two Sunday morning 会談 shows, 説 Cummings was wrong to 非難する the work of U.S. 移民/移住 officers on the Mexican 国境.

Asked whether he believed Trump's comments were hyperbolic, Mulvaney said: "I 絶対 do."
