LEE BOYCE: Why wouldn't John 吊りくさび want loyal, reliable 顧客s using its credit cards?
Another week, another Money Mail postbag stuffed 十分な of (民事の)告訴s about John 吊りくさび credit cards.
Dozens upon dozens of you have written to us over the past seven days aghast at having to reapply for a card you've used for years, only to be told 'Computer says no'.
One 主題 running through all your letters is bafflement. Many of you cannot understand why you've been 拒絶するd and feel 傷つける.
辞退するd: Most of those 拒絶するd for a new John 吊りくさび credit card are people who 支払う/賃金 off their spending 法案s diligently
And I 完全に get it. You shop loyally at John 吊りくさび and Waitrose for years, put all your spending on the company's credit cards (which it marketed to you as a 忠義 reward 計画/陰謀, by the way) and 支払う/賃金 the 十分な balance off every month without fail.?
You regard having a John 吊りくさび card as a badge of honour, a nod to a brand you love. Then, seemingly without rhyme or 推論する/理由, you have all that thrown 支援する in your 直面する.< /p>
It hasn't escaped my attention that many of the stranger 拒絶s in Money Mail's postbag relate to 顧客s over the age of 70. Surely a company such as John 吊りくさび wouldn't turn 負かす/撃墜する someone because of their age?
John 吊りくさび forcefully 否定するs any suggestion of ageism. In fact, it says the 受託 率 for retired 顧客s is higher than for those still working.
I'm 用意が出来ている to take John 吊りくさび's word that this isn't 'ageism'. But I can't help wondering whether the 使用/適用 基準 存在 used by its new credit card 供給者, NewDay, is somehow to 非難する.
Let's not forget that in all sorts of areas of our 財政上の lives older people inadvertently 結局最後にはーなる with the worst 取引,協定s. It's not やむを得ず 審議する/熟考する. Take 貯金 率s, for example. All the best 申し込む/申し出s are for 顧客s who have 接近 to the internet.
For younger 世代s, that's no 肌 off their nose. But for a 世代 uncomfortable online, it often means 受託するing worse returns on their nest eggs.
Or take 支払う/賃金ing for parking. Car park 操作者s are ますます ripping out coin machines and making us use fiddly 動きやすい phone apps.?
Some older readers have told me the switchover has put them off going into town for their shopping or to 会合,会う a friend.
I hope I'm wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me if, somehow ― にもかかわらず trying to be fair to all ― John 吊りくさび's credit card 供給者 is inadvertently 拒絶するing some older people because they don't fit into its neat boxes.?
This wouldn't 事柄 much if we were 取引,協定ing with an ordinary credit card 存在 flogged to the 集まりs.
But the people 存在 捨てるd by John 吊りくさび are 存在するing 顧客s. They want to keep using their cards after 証明するing themselves reliable borrowers. In other words, John 吊りくさび is 疎遠にするing some of its biggest fans.
To its credit, the company is listening to our 関心s. It has reviewed many of the 拒絶s we've put to it and is working hard to 確実にする 顧客s are 扱う/治療するd 公正に/かなり.
That's all we ask. Of course, not every 顧客 who 適用するs for a 財政上の 製品 should be 受託するd.?
But surely 忠義 ― and reliably 支払う/賃金ing our 法案s each month ― should be 前線 and centre when credit card companies decide who to take on as 顧客s.
NS&I envy
It's 安全な to say I'm green with envy of those who have held on to 索引-Linked 証明書s with 国家の 貯金 & 投資s. The accounts feel almost mythical, having not been on sale for 11 years.
But while Britain's biggest banks continue to give savers a raw 取引,協定, those who 根気よく stuck with the 証明書s are now seeing it rain 利益/興味.
There are 345,000 savers out there with them and I'm sure many will be Money Mail readers. They typically 支払う/賃金 the 同等(の) of the 消費者 Prices 索引 加える 0.01 pc, for a 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 of two, three or five years.
I would love to see them make a 復帰, but that is wishful thinking in today's high インフレーション 環境. You can keep reinvesting your money and the 利益/興味 in them, but you cannot 追加する new cash.
NS&I told me some £17 billion is held in them with an 普通の/平均(する) 投資 of £49,400.?
Do you still 持つ/拘留する them? I'd love to hear about how long you've had them and the 量 of 利益/興味 you're coining in . . . and fizz with jealousy.
