Nightmare in 悲惨 Bay: A financier with secrets finds herself living under a new 身元 in a weird backwoods cesspit of a town in a gripping new thriller

Anika 先頭 Cleef is the elegant boss of a powerful Australian 財政/金融 company who lives a 高級な life with her two children and younger boyfriend in a leafy Melbourne?郊外. But one day everything changes.?

While buying groceries, a woman she’s never seen before 保護物,者s her from two gunmen and bundles her out of the shop, telling her she has to start a new life.

‘She has no idea what’s going on,’ says Marta Dusseldorp, the Australian actress who plays Anika in Bay Of 解雇する/砲火/射撃s, an eight-part thriller she also co-wrote.?

Slowly an explanation 現れるs: Anika had spotted discrepancies in her company’s accounts and powerful people now want to keep her 静かな before she goes public with the (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状).

Anika and her children Otis and Iris are spirited away to a new home on the Australian island of Tasmania, and while the villains try to 跡をつける her 負かす/撃墜する much of the story follows Anika’s new life in a strange cesspit of a town, Mystery Bay. ‘It’s a crazy place with characters such as Frankie, a 犯罪の matriarch played by Kerry Fox, and Jeremiah the handsome 地元の handyman,’ says Marta. ‘And a couple, Magda and Heather, walk their pig Truffles 負かす/撃墜する the main street!’

Some of her new 隣人s start to 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑う she’s hiding from something, and at least one 需要・要求するs money to keep 静かな. Marta says the show has 面s of comedy Schitt’s Creek and Netflix 攻撃する,衝突する Ozark, both about relocated families. ‘It’s also got an Alice In Wonderland element.

‘Anika 宙返り/暴落するs, like Alice, into this new world. There’s even a sort of Mad Hatter’s Tea Party when she’s 招待するd to the weirdest dinner party at Frankie’s. It’s there she realises she and her family have been dropped into a viper’s nest.’

Talking of vipers, Marta has to 扱う a python in the first episode. ‘Like Indiana Jones I have a 恐れる of snakes,’ she shudders. ‘It did help my phobia.’

Marta, 51, who’s married to Australian actor Ben Winspear and is a major 星/主役にする in Australia thanks to long-running TV series such as Jack Irish and A Place To Call Home, says Bay Of 解雇する/砲火/射撃s is to some extent autobiographical.

‘I do dream about anonymity, what it’d be like to disappear. In Australia I’m 絶えず 存在 asked for photos in the street.

‘We (機の)カム up with the idea in Covid. I’m sure what we were going through was on our minds.’

Series two began filming this month. ‘There’s nothing more 失望させるing than committing to eight hours only to be told at the end, “Wait, all will be 明らかにする/漏らすd next year.” So we 包む it up,’ says Marta. ‘But we had enough to 地雷 a second series ? and that’s what we’ve done.’
