How I spent my parents' 貯金 turning their home into my design fantasy: 内部の Design Masters 支持する／優勝者 Roisin Quinn 明らかにする／漏らすs her technicolour masterpiece 含むing a £2,595 light and £436-a-square-metre tiles

有罪の 楽しみ or 信頼できる 内部の design show? Either way, 見解（をとる）ing 人物／姿／数字s for 内部の Design Masters 示唆する it is compulsive television for 1.8 million of us. The fifth 一連の the BBC One show, hosted by 内部のs 専門家 Michelle Ogundehin and comedian Alan Carr, has just finished and, after eight weeks of challenges, 栄冠を与えるd 30-year-old Roisin Quinn as its 2024 勝利者.?

‘Three weeks before I started filming I やめる my 職業 as a travel 助言者 in Liverpool. I’d always thought I had something creative in me ? I just didn’t know how to 表明する it,’ Quinn says.

She’d spent her 早期に years in Ireland, moving, 老年の nine, to the 小島 of Man with her parents, Michelle and Tommy, and siblings Danielle, Declan and Imelda. After a degree in 演劇 and a （一定の）期間 travelling that led to work in the 産業, styling her wedding in late 2022 got her 伴う／関わるd in 内部のs.

‘It made me realise that I really 手配中の，お尋ね者 to 追求する a more creative path. After the wedding, people said I should go into event styling, but I knew 内部のs was more for me. My parents’ new house was the 行方不明の piece of the puzzle.’

Michelle and Tommy had recently built Primrose 宿泊する, a five-bedroom family home on the 小島 of Man’s Ramsey coast. They had 協議するd a couple of designers, but the decorating 計画／陰謀s they had put together weren’t hitting the 位置／汚点／見つけ出す, so the house remained bland and unfinished.

‘I thought I could do better,’ says Quinn. ‘It 要求するd a big 予算 and Mum and Dad had saved hard all their lives and 手配中の，お尋ね者 to create something special for their 退職. The 選択 過程, which began in April 2023, 含むd four 一連の会議、交渉／完成するs?of interviews and a 審査する 実験（する） with the 生産者s in London. ‘I didn’t feel that 確信して, but had to keep telling myself that if I got through to the next ro und, they must have liked what they’d seen.’

A week later Quinn received the call to say she was joining the show. Sadly, the elation of 存在 selected did not last long as, すぐに after, her father Tommy was 診断するd with 癌. This was 破滅的な news for the family.

‘I felt a lot of 犯罪 for joining the show,’ says Quinn, ‘as I knew I would be away filming so much. I kept thinking I should be at home, 焦点（を合わせる）ing on my dad. But once filming started I think it helped. It was brilliant to be able to call Dad in the hospital and say that I was through to the next week,’ she says.

The show began with ten contestants (the least successful designer 存在 除去するd each week), all 直面するing the challenge of transforming a 範囲 of 商業の spaces across the UK, with a 限られた／立憲的な 予算 and help from a small 禁止（する）d of tradespeople. Quinn delighted the 裁判官s with her bold designs, from 改造するing a 修道女’s 独房 in Norfolk into a B&B to working over Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Wembley 円形競技場 dressing room.

Her ability to 注入する colour, pattern and personality into everything she created saw her 宣言するd the 勝利者 (last Tuesday). ‘I was 手渡すd a glass of シャンペン酒 but was in such shock I couldn’t stop shaking. Alan Carr had to retrieve the glass before I spilt it!

‘It sounds so weird to say, but 2023 was the best and worst year of my life,’ she says. ‘It was so 利益／興味ing to learn the two extremes can 同時に起こる／一致する. I kept feeling I cannot かもしれない be this happy while all of this other stuff is going on.’

Her dad is doing 井戸／弁護士席 and she has a 契約 with La Redoute for an 排除的 homeware and wallpaper collection, 同様に as 計画（する）s to 開始する，打ち上げる her own design studio, while working on 事業／計画（する）s for boutique hotels, restaurants and 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業s. So the 未来 for Quinn is looking as 有望な and joyful as the rooms she artfully creates.
