Move over Mykonos! Paros is far more laid-»Ù±ç¤¹¤ë than its noisy ÎÙ¿Í - but it's becoming the new Greek hotspot thanks to a starring Ìò³ä in Netflix series One Day

You have to make a bit of an À®²Ì¡¿ÅØÎÏ to reach the small, Cycladic island of Paros.

But it¡Çs ²ÁÃ͡ʤ¬¤¢¤ë¡Ë it if you¡Çre keen on ȳ¶â beaches, blue-¥É¡¼¥àd churches and ports where waterfront tavernas serve charcoal-¼èÄ´¤Ù¡¿¸·¤·¤¯¿ÒÌ䤹¤ëd fish and spanakopita (spinach pie).

My Greek friend Theo and I arrived after a three-hour voyage by high-®ÅÙ(¤ò¾å¤²¤ë¡Ë ¥Õ¥§¥ê¡¼¡Ê¤Ç±¿¤Ö¡Ë from Piraeus.

You can also get there Èô¹Ôµ¡¤Ç¹Ô¤¯ing ·Ðͳ¤Ç Athens or go to big sister Mykonos and take a 45-minute ¥Õ¥§¥ê¡¼¡Ê¤Ç±¿¤Ö¡Ë ride.

While that larger island is °æ¸Í¡¿ÊÛ¸î»ÎÀÊ-known for its hedonism, sunsets and ½ä¹Ò¤¹¤ë ship hordes, Paros is just 13 miles long and a favourite with Greek holidaymakers.

We stayed in Naoussa, once a ÀŤ«¤Ê fishermen¡Çs village but now the island¡Çs tourist Ãæ¿´.

Our room at the reasonably Äê²Á¤Ä¤¤Î Iris Boutique Hotel ¡Êµ¡¤Î¡Ë¥«¥à with a balcony overlooking the whitewashed town.

Jewellery shops and Ã夻¤ë¡¿ÉêÍ¿¤¹¤ës boutiques line the winding streets while the Çѵõs of a 15th-century Venetian ¾ë stretch into the bewitching Aegean.

In the 1970s, Paros was a party ÌÜŪÃÏ ¡½ until ¸ø¼°¤Î¡¿Ìò¿Ís ´Ê·é¤Ë ¤Î¶á¤¯¤Ëd the island to foreign tourists.

Now it is ·¹¸þing again after ¸ºß a ¾ì½ê in the?Netflix ¾®·¿¤Î-series One Day. Airbnb?saw a 32 per cent spike in searches by UK travellers.

New ¹Ù³°½»Âðs are ¡Æpopping up like mushrooms¡Ç, as one islander put it, along with smartly designed ¹âµé¤Ê h otels such as the 38-room Avant »¤Ê¤¦ on Piperi Beach.

With its »äŪ¤Ê µÞÍî¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ë¡¤·ã¸º¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ë pools, thermal baths-¼çÂêd spa and a restaurant overseen by À±¡¿¼çÌò¤Ë¤¹¤ë chef Nobu Matsuhisa, it¡Çs unashamedly ÌÜŪ¡Ê¤È¤¹¤ë¡Ëd at ËÉÙ¤Ê sun-õ¸¡¼Ôs.

So, is Paros the new Mykonos? Not yet, but with an international airport ͽÄê to open next year, it ÌÀ³Î¤Ë will be.

We rented a car to Ä´ºº¤¹¤ë. In Parikia, the small but Ëþ¤µ¤»¤ëing Archaeology Museum ¿½¤·¹þ¤à¡¿¿½¤·½Ðd enchanting artworks created over 2,000 years ago.

We learned how in classical times Parian marble was prized for its translucence, ¸ºß used in sculptures such as the Venus de Milo. It also adorns Napoleon Bonaparte¡ Çs tomb in Paris.

Another engaging stop was the Valley Of ¥Ð¥¿¥Õ¥é¥¤s, a forested nature reserve where in summer thousands of Jersey tiger moths flock with vivid red underwings that are only ÌÀ¤é¤«¤Ë¤¹¤ë¡¿Ï³¤é¤¹d when in flight.

One morning, we took the seven-minute, ?1.50 (¡ò1.30 / $1.60) ¥Õ¥§¥ê¡¼¡Ê¤Ç±¿¤Ö¡Ë west to Antiparos, which is smaller and more ÅÁÅýŪ¤Ê than its go-ahead ÎÙ¿Í.

»Ùʧ¤¦¡¿Ä¶âing a visit to its Historical And Folklore Museum, we were ¿½¤·¹þ¤à¡¿¿½¤·½Ðd olives and a glass of Ãϸµ¤Î Tsipouro, a potent ouzo-like spirit.?

Yet even here, there was a feeling that things were on the move.?

'You know Tom Hanks has a house on Antiparos?¡Ç said a waiter.

Then, a little later, a shop owner couldn¡Çt help ¸Ø¤ëing how ¡Æthe Obamas were here last week¡Ç.

»Ù±ç¤¹¤ë on Paros, Theo and I drove up into the mountains to Lefkes.

As the sun »Ï¤á¤ë¡¤·è¤á¤ë, we sat in the Taverna Agnadio savouring its panoramic ¸«²ò¡Ê¤ò¤È¤ë¡Ë of white churches and windmills as luscious plates of tzatziki and honey-coated fried feta landed on the ¡ÊÊÆ¡Ëê¾å¤²¤¹¤ë¡¿¡Ê±Ñ¡ËÄóµÄ¤¹¤ë.

It¡Çs fair to say that Paros is making its presence felt. It¡Çs been À¬Éþ¤¹¤ë¡¿ÂǤÁ¾¡¤Äd by the Byzantines and Ottomans ¡½ and may just be a new Ū for the TikTok ιÃÄ. All the more ¿äÏÀ¤¹¤ë¡¿Íýͳ to go now.
