Why did Barclays 凍結する our Neighbourhood Watch bank account? TONY HETHERINGTON 調査/捜査するs

Tony Hetherington is 財政上の Mail on Sunday's エース 捜査官/調査官, fighting readers corners, 明らかにする/漏らすing the truth that lies behind の近くにd doors and winning victories for those who have been left out-of-pocket. Find out how to 接触する him below.?

A.P. 令状s:?Our Neighbourhood Watch has a community bank account with Barclays.?

One of the 加盟国s died, and the remaining 加盟国 接触するd the bank to 追加する me to the 委任統治(領).?

The paperwork was 完全にするd, and I visited the bank with the new 委任統治(領) form and proof of my 身元.?

But when I then emailed and wrote to the bank, I received no 返答.

Peace of mind: A sign in an area covered by Neighbourhood Watch

Peace of mind: A 調印する in an area covered by Neighbourhood Watch

Tony Hetherington replies:?Receiving no reply was just the start of your problems. When you called the bank and spoke to someone you believed was in Africa, they agreed that Barclays had received the new 委任統治(領) form. However, there was a question hanging over your 任命 as a 加盟国, and the (衆議院の)議長 gave you a different number so you could call someone in India, who in turn told you to go to your 支店, which you had already done.

You called Barclays again, this time speaking to Stavros in Greece, who told you the new 委任統治(領) should 施行される within a fortnight.

It didn't, so you wrote to the bank's (警察,軍隊などの)本部. You were advised that a lot of work had been going on in the background, and that you should hear something later that week. You heard nothing, of course, and when you complained you were told the 事柄 had been 増大するd to 上級の 管理/経営.

No 推論する/理由 was 申し込む/申し出d, but a couple of weeks later the other 加盟国 on the Neighbourhood Watch account tried to make use of it and the 支店 told her that the account, which 含む/封じ込めるd £650, had been frozen. At this point, you 接触するd me, 説 that 'Barclays has 掴むd our 基金s!'

I asked the bank what on earth had gone so 不正に wrong that it had needed to 凍結する the account of a community group whose 単独の 目的 is to 警告する against 罪,犯罪. Barclays told me: 'This is a rare occasion of an error having occurred when the account was 最初 opened in 2007.'

Your Neighbourhood Watch 計画/陰謀 was 誤った given a personal Everyday Saver account instead of one for a 地元の 協会 or society. This had been noticed when you 適用するd to change the 委任統治(領), and the bank was now switching you to a 商売/仕事 賞与金 account.

On the 有望な 味方する, Barclays apol ogised for the error and inconvenience and 追加するd £500 to the account. いっそう少なく helpfully, the bank only makes such switches on one day each month, and you 行方不明になるd the 最新の (製品,工事材料の)一回分 by 24 hours, 延期するing the whole 過程 again. I went 支援する to Barclays HQ and the handover was quickly made. The bank even 追加するd another £200 to its earlier £500 陳謝.

So, problem solved? Not やめる. A bizarre letter from Barclays arrived, 説 that because the Neighbourhood Watch had changed its '貿易(する)ing 演説(する)/住所'? meaning 声明s would go to your home ? the bank 手配中の,お尋ね者 a copy of your 商売/仕事's 賃貸し(する) or 賃貸しの 協定, or 公共事業(料金)/有用性 法案s, 保険 契約s, correspondence from HMRC, letters from the 財政上の 行為/行う 当局 or The 法律 Society, or 調印するd 確定/確認 from an accountant or solicitor. Fail to 供給(する) at least one of these 文書s showing your '商売/仕事 指名する', and your nice new account would be frozen again.

Once more, Barclays apologised. It was all a 誤解. The bank knew you were not running a 商売/仕事, and it would happily 受託する a 公共事業(料金)/有用性 法案 or something 類似の as 証拠 of your home 演説(する)/住所, though like some mad Alice In Wonderland scene where nothing is what it seems, Barclays explained to me that, even though the account is not for a 商売/仕事, your 演説(する)/住所 is still regarded as a 貿易(する)ing 演説(する)/住所.

Once upon a time, perhaps in the 時代 when Mr Mainwaring of Dad's Army was the 地元の bank 経営者/支配人 and knew every 顧客, accounts were いっそう少なく コンビナート/複合体. Now banks ? not just Barclays ? are so far 除去するd from their 顧客s that they rely on box-ticking 演習s instead of ありふれた sense.

You showed Barclays your 所得税 coding notice which 含むd your 演説(する)/住所. Your account is now running 普通は. But the only really good thing to 現れる from all this is that your Neighbourhood Watch is 突然に £700 better off.

Lettings letdown

D.F. 令状s: We have an apartment in Tenerife which we advertise through lettings company VRBO UK.?

We received a 調書をとる/予約するing and the £502 支払い(額) was 予定 soon afterwards, but VRBO said it was sent to the account of an Alfred Capper.?

I have never heard of him, but VRBO 辞退するd to 支払う/賃金 me, 説 it couldn't 回復する the money.

Sunny outlook: A Tenerife apartment fee eventually arrived

Sunny 見通し: A Tenerife apartment 料金 even tually arrived

Tony Hetherington replies: When you told VRBO that you had not received the £502 it should have sent to your bank account, it told you it had asked a 会社/堅い called Hyperwallet to 調査/捜査する. VRBO told you that Hyperwallet had replied that 'unfortunately no 基金s remain for 回復 on this occasion'. This was no explanation at all, but VRBO (機の)カム up with an 平等に dismissive and useless 返答, 説 that it had sent the money to Payoneer (EU) 限られた/立憲的な, a Gibraltar 支払い(額)-過程ing 会社/堅い.

VRBO is part of the Expedia travel group, which told me that you had made 接触する after spotting that your account 詳細(に述べる)s had been changed to an unknown Payoneer account, and that 'our team quickly 調査/捜査するd and 決定するd that his host account may have been 妥協d'.

Expedia (人命などを)奪う,主張するd to have sent you a form to 完全にする so you could 回復する your £502. Two days after I questioned VRBO, you were told it would 支払う/賃金 you after all. The day after that, £502 appeared in your bank account. 魔法!
