All of Britain could get a みごたえのある glimpse of the Northern Lights tonight thanks to a 大規模な solar 嵐／襲撃する which 脅すs to 原因（となる） 大混乱 around the world.

Scientists 恐れる the '厳しい' geomagnetic 嵐／襲撃する ? the first to strike Earth in almost 20 years ? has the 力／強力にする to 混乱に陥れる／中断させる 力／強力にする grids, 動きやすい 網状組織s and GPS 衛星s.

The unusual event will also drape a 抱擁する 部分 of the country in a みごたえのある light 陳列する，発揮する (an 'aurora').

Stargazers as far south as Cornwall could be in for a glimpse, the Met Office said.?

However, one strong ゆらめく 解放（する）d on Thursday has proven to be 特に 急速な／放蕩な and is now 推定する／予想するd to 'sweep up' all of the 放射（能） into a 選び出す／独身 wave.

The Northern and Southern Lights (auroras) are natural light spectacles.

Usually, the 粒子s are deflected by Earth's 磁石の field, but during stronger 嵐／襲撃するs they enter the atmosphere and 衝突する／食い違う with gas 粒子s such as hydrogen and helium.

These 衝突／不一致s 放出する light in many amazing colours, although pale green and pink are ありふれた.?

While this might sound ominous, this is 現実に 広大な／多数の／重要な news for stargazers in the Northern 半球.

That electric field soaks up the 無線で通信する waves we use to communicate, meaning that signals to 衛星s and other services can't get through ? creating 無線で通信する 灯火管制／停電s.?

The Met Office has 問題／発行するd an R3 Xray 無線で通信する 灯火管制／停電 Al ert, 示すing that strong 無線で通信する 灯火管制／停電s are likely as the 嵐／襲撃する arrives.?

That electricity can also flow into the 電気の grid, 原因（となる）ing 損失 and 力／強力にする outages.

NOAA points out that the last G5 (Extreme) solar 嵐／襲撃する in 2003 原因（となる）d 力／強力にする outages after Sweden and 損失d transformers in South Africa.

Geomagnetic 嵐／襲撃するs can also 原因（となる） the atmosphere to 拡大する until it swallows up 衛星s in low-Earth 軌道.

However, it is not 確かな how 破壊的な today's 嵐／襲撃する will be but it is ありそうもない to be the last major solar event of the year.

The sun has a cycle of activity which reaches its 頂点（に達する） every 11 years in an event called the solar 最大限.

During this いわゆる 最大限, the sun has a much greater number of sunspots, which are the origins of the biggest coronal 集まり ejections.?

One way to 跡をつける the solar cycle is by counting the number of sunspots.

The beginning of a solar cycle is a solar 最小限, or when the Sun has the least sunspots. Over time, solar activity - and the number of sunspots - 増加するs.

The middle of the solar cycle is the solar 最大限, or when the Sun has the most sunspots.

As the cycle ends, it fades 支援する to the solar 最小限 and then a new cycle begins.

These 爆発s send powerful bursts of energy and 構成要素 into space that can have 影響s on Earth.
