So now we know what one of the brains behind 影をつくる／尾行する （ドイツなどの）首相／（大学の）学長 Rachel Reeves believes is 責任がある Britain's 経済的な woes.

And he wants 解放する／自由な TV licences stripped from pensioners over 75 and given to young families instead. When Troup was asked how the 政府 can 増加する 歳入, he replied: 'We should be looking at the codgers.'

He 収容する／認めるs: 'I'm a baby boomer, I was born in 1955, and we have had it ridiculously good. We've 利益d from low 利益／興味 率s, high インフレーション when we bought our houses, we've enjoyed good returns on whatever we've managed to put into our 年金 基金s. We're not 支払う／賃金ing 国家の 保険 if we're still working after the age of 60, and it's a 完全にする 不名誉.'

Millions of his fellow Baby Boomers would beg to 異なる. Somehow the myth has developed that those of us born in the 20 years after World War II grew up on 平易な Street.

Low 利益／興味 率s are a 公正に／かなり 最近の 現象. In 1979, they 頂点（に達する）d at 17 per cent and stayed there until the Thatcher 改革（する）s worked their way through the system.

Plenty of Boomers who by now 推定する／予想するd to be enjoying a comfortable 退職 are still working, either out of choice or, in many 事例／患者s, out of necessity to make ends 会合，会う, 特に if they have to rely on the 明言する／公表する 年金. If still working, they're 直面するd with the highest 税金 重荷（を負わせる） for 70 years.

Not that most of my 世代 have ever been 脅すd of hard work, unlike ― it would seem ― today's 20-somethings.

When I was making my way in the world, working two or three 職業s at a time wasn't unusual. I did it myself. Plenty of us 選ぶd up the work habit 早期に, 配達するing papers and groceries, or as Saturday girls in hairdressers, while we were still at school.

Today, we keep 存在 told Gen Zers don't want to work. 公式の／役人 人物／姿／数字s 解放（する）d in March showed that nearly three million under-25s are economically inactive ― not working and not looking for a 職業 either.

調査する after 調査する say they 拒絶する the notion of doing a Dolly Parton― working 9 to 5. 雇用者s complain that half the time applicants don't even bother turning up for an interview.

And these are the people 労働's 最新の 経済的な 助言者 wants to give 解放する／自由な TV licences ― even though they've never bought one in the first place since they watch everything on their tablets and 動きやすい phones.

Look, I 受託する youngsters are struggling to get on the 住宅 ladder, but that's not the fault of Boomers. The 非難する lies with 連続する 政府s who have deliberately encouraged 集まり 移民／移住, which has seen the 全住民 rise by 10 million to 68 million since 労働's 地滑り in 1997, without bothering to 確実にする that there are 十分な homes, or public services, to go 一連の会議、交渉／完成する.

軍隊ing Boomers to 'downsize' isn't the answer, just 罰 for those who have worked hard and paid 税金s all their lives so they can enjoy the fruits of their endeavours. If we've had it 'ridiculously good', we've earned it.

People try to put us 負かす／撃墜する, but it's not the fault of My 世代. Whatever problems Britain 直面するs today are the result of wrong-長，率いるd, vindictive 政策s passed by Westminster 政治家，政治屋s.

Don't 非難する it on the Codgers, don't 非難する it on the Boomers, 非難する it on the 泡.

Speaking of hard-working Boomers, my old mate Sean McDermott turns 70 today. He's been a fixture of the London restaurant scene for １０年間s, 現在／一般に working the door at Scott's, in Mayfair.

Sean may be the most photographed man you've never heard of, 定期的に pictured 株ing a joke with, or 開始 a car door for, 即時に recognisable celebrities like Kate Moss.
