The 50 best new TV shows of 2024 to stream (so far): Our critics select the year's must-watch 演劇s, comedies and 文書のs - from big 攻撃する，衝突するs to shows you WON'T have 推定する／予想するd to see

Beginning with their final night at university together, One Day follows Dexter and Emma (The White Lotus's Leo Woodall and This Is Going To 傷つける's Ambika Mod) across almost two １０年間s, as they cross in and out of each other's lives and 落ちる in and out of love with one another. The 新たな展開? We only catch up with them on one day each year, 15 July.?

It's a 広大な／多数の／重要な conceit that 許すs time to flicker past as the pair's lives and looks change across the series. It's already been adapted into a lovely 2011 film (starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess), but this 14-parter has much more 肘 room to dig into elements from the novel, delighting fans as it 拡大するs upon the joys and 悲劇s of Dex and Em's lives. The fact that each episode is only around 30 minutes long helps the show to zip along at a 広大な／多数の／重要な pace, as does the 自由主義の use of music from each year.?

The show's 製造者s do a good 職業 of 逮捕（する）ing the 1990s in particular, 特に the （一定の）期間 when Dex becomes the 嫌悪すべき host of low-rent, 地位，任命する-pub TV that's all too の近くに to what was 現実に on our 審査するs at the time. It says a lot for Woodall's charm as an actor that he manages to keep Dex at all likeable during those years, while you're always やじ for the endearing Mod - who was the 悲劇の heart of This Is Going To 傷つける - to find a happy ending as Emma. Adaptation of James Clavell's epic novel about an Englishman in 17th-century Japan

Fans of a 確かな世代 will 情愛深く remember the 1980s adaptation of James Clavell's novel, which saw Richard Chamberlain 星／主役にする as John Blackthorne, a shipwrecked English sailor trying to 生き残る dangerous political and 軍の machinations in 17th-century Japan.?

This ten-part adaptation doesn't let 負かす／撃墜する the good 指名する of that show, 現在のing an impressively atmospheric （判決などを）下すing of a tale 十分な of murky betrayal, forbidden romance and truly epic war. British actor Cosmo Jarvis is 堅い and 乱打するd as the indomitable Blackthorne, guided through the dangerous waters of Japanese society by Anna Sawai as his 翻訳家 Lady Mariko.?

The series 現実に現在のs Clavell's story with かなり more 辛勝する／優位 and 規模 than the 1980s 見解／翻訳／版 did, and comes from FX. That's the US TV brand that has given us such shows as The 保護物，者, Sons Of Anarchy and The Americans 負かす／撃墜する the years, so think of this very much in that tradition, rather than the soapy miniseries mould the 1980s 見解／翻訳／版 sprang from. The cast is terrific - Jarvis is reminiscent of Tom Hardy in the lead, while Sawai 配達するs an intriguing mix of composure and subtly 泡ing emotion as Mariko, and Hiroyuki Sanada is riveting as Toranaga, a 地元の lord who strikes an uneasy 同盟 with Blackthorne. The series itself 発展させるs with a surely 扱うd mix of 活動／戦闘, intrigue, humour and real moments of pure, soul-stirring emotion that should earn it fans across the board. (Ten episodes)?

Mr Bates vs The 地位，任命する Office

Real-life 演劇 about a terrible miscarriage of 司法（官）

This superb four-part 演劇 tells the story of one of the greatest miscarriages of 司法（官） in British 合法的な history. In the 早期に 2000s, hundreds of innocent sub-postmasters and postmistresses were wrongly （刑事）被告 of 窃盗, 詐欺 and 誤った accounting 予定 to a 欠陥のある IT system. Many of the wronged 労働者s were 起訴するd, some were 拘留するd, all had their lives irreparably 損失d by the スキャンダル.?

Toby Jones is his usual brilliant self as sub-postmaster Alan Bates, who 辞退するd to believe his 同僚s were 責任がある the mysterious 財政上の losses and led the fightback against the 地位，任命する Office. The 1999 movie of Patricia Highsmith's novel, The Talented Mr Ripley, left you wanting more of the 反対／詐欺 artist character at its centre. Andrew Scott gives you just that in Netflix's eight-part take on the same source 構成要素, に引き続いて Ripley from New York to Italy as he insinuates himself into the life of clueless American playboy Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn) and his 正確に，正当に怪しげな fianc?e, Marge (Dakota Fanning).?

始める，決める in sunny Italy but filmed in 黒人／ボイコット and white, the series has much more space to give us a 一連の会議、交渉／完成するd portrait of Ripley, to the exte nt that you may even find yourself sympathising with him 早期に on: he's ripped off by an Italian taxi driver and trudges around the country, unable to speak the language, 猛烈に looking for his ticket to a better life.?

You see a lot of his struggle, in short - perhaps a little too much for some tastes. Still, it scarcely 事柄s as Scott is, of course, brilliant in the lead. The character of Ripley is a mimic and Scott, as an actor, is fantastic at that - when he starts to copy Dickie it's genuinely unsettling and weirdly 正確な, にもかかわらず the fact that Scott looks nothing like Flynn. And that 業績／成果 is 許すd to stand 大部分は on its own, with no fancy 削減（する）s and barely any background music. Flynn and Fanning are both excellent too, and Fanning in particular does a lot with a look. Masters Of The 空気／公表する

Epic fact-based WWII 演劇 about US airmen in Britain

Like 禁止（する）d Of Brothers but about the US airmen who flew out of the UK during the Second World War, this nine-part 演劇 is a very impressive piece of work. Produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin (which also gave us 禁止（する）d Of Brothers and its sequel, The 太平洋の), it's stacked with talent in every area, most 明白に in the 創造 of the 空中の sequences and in its cast, which 誇るs Austin Butler (Elvis), Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) and even Doctor Who himself - Ncuti Gatwa - の中で the aviators 飛行機で行くing with the 100th 爆弾 Group.?

The 100th 飛行機で行く their 爆破使節団s in daytime, so the impressive 空中の sequences are 明白な in all their glory, and it's not just CGI bringing them to life, either. Amblin used a neat combination of re plica B-17 飛行機で行くing 要塞s and 数字表示式の wizardry when they were filming in the UK, and built a 十分な-規模空気／公表する base too - so it all feels 公正に／かなり real. We also see the social 味方する of the airmen's lives, and the 衝撃 those 使節団s had as the series goes beyond the British 小島s and even into a PoW （軍の）野営地，陣営. It's true that the トン of the whole thing is rather American, but then it is an American story so that seems fair enough. And it's hard to resent all that Hollywood money when it brings this 肉親，親類d of big-審査する規模 to the small 審査する. (Nine episodes)?

Baby Reindeer

Riveting 演劇 based on comedian Richard Gadd's experiences with a stalker

Gadd has been very （疑いを）晴らす that he made mistakes in t he way he 扱うd his stalker, and the honesty he's 注ぐd into the script translates into a show that's very hard to stop watching even when, at some points, you may really want to.

While far from an 平易な watch, Baby Reindeer (the 肩書を与える comes from Martha's 愛称 for him) is certainly a gripping one that plays with your sympathies throughout. And don't forget that Gadd is also, fundamentally, a comedian - so it's also a very funny show at times too, いつかs when you least 推定する／予想する it to be. (Seven episodes)?

The Gentlemen

罪，犯罪 thriller series based on Guy Ritchie's movie The Gentlemen

十分な of dangerous Cockney geezers, 背信の aristos and all manner of other colourful 暗黒街 characters, Guy Ritchie's 2019 movie The Gentlemen was a 残虐な thriller romp. This eight-part series may not use any of the same characters but it 逮捕（する）s the same wisecracking sense of violent 超過 as its movie big brother (no surprise really, as Ritchie produces the whole thing and even directs a few episodes).

The White Lotus 星／主役にする Theo James takes the lead as the 黒人／ボイコット sheep of a noble family who discovers that 突然に相続するing his family 広い地所 puts him in the crosshairs of a number of dodgy characters, not least those played by 肌s's Kaya Scodelario, Better Call Saul's Giancarlo Esposito and 罪，犯罪-演劇 legends Vinnie Jones and Ray Winstone. Truelove

A dark comedy-演劇 that 取り組むs the 支配する of 補助装置d dying

Don't let the 疑わしい指名する of this six-parter put you off - it would be a real shame to 行方不明になる this tragicomic British 演劇. Truelove follows a group of friends in their 70s who 再会させる at a funeral, where they flirt, get drunk and 割れ目 jokes about their own mortality. Afterwards, fuelled by booze, they make a 協定／条約 to 'help each other across the threshold' rather than 苦しむ a horrible death. But will Phil (Lindsay Duncan), a chain-smoking ex-警官，（賞などを）獲得する with laugh-out-loud lines, and Ken (Clarke Peters) 現実に help their old friends to die when asked??

The other members of the ギャング（団）含む The Royle Family's 告訴する Johnston, Lark Rise To Candleford's Karl Johnson and Ever 減少（する）ing Circles' Peter Egan, making Truelove a rare thing in that its 核心 cast are all over the age of 70.?

Clarke, 71, says it was fun to be with people his own age. 'When you're the oldest person in the room it いつかs feels like everyone is looking to you for something. And いつかs those young people aren't 患者 enough,' he laughs. 'いつかs when we older people have forgotten something, we feel bad that we're 持つ／拘留するing things up. But in this company, when that happened there was a wonderful sense of support.' (Six episodes)

Shardlake

Sean Bean plays Thomas Cromwell in this TV series take on the Tudor mystery 調書をとる／予約するs

The author CJ Sansom wrote a 一連の seven 調書をとる／予約するs about the fortunes of Matthew Shardlake, a hunchbacked barrister toiling in the 統治する of Henry VIII, against the 背景 of the 解散 of the mon asteries. They make for 吸収するing reading and this TV adaptation brings them to atmospheric life even if, as is ever the 事例／患者 with such things, the actors they've chosen don't always match the characters you had in your 長，率いる while reading.

The Archers' Arthur Hughes is our Shardlake, a man oft-裁判官d for his 外見 but who 持つ／拘留するs himself straight and true to one 原則 - the truth. His uneasy companion in 調査 is Jack Barak, a fearsome henchman of Thomas Cromwell's who is いっそう少なく keen on truth than he is on serving his 残虐な master's 見解／翻訳／版 of it. Masters Of The 空気／公表する's Anthony Boyle plays Barak with swagger and 暴力／激しさ, both traits masking a 説得力のある chink of insecurity that 確実にするs it's his character's 旅行 you're watching most closely here.

The 衝突／不一致 of Barak and Shardlake's 動機づけs plays out to fascinating 影響 in this 開始 four-part 殺人事例／患者, which begins with the latter 存在教えるd to 調査／捜査する by Cromwell himself, imperiously played by Sean Bean. Don't 推定する／予想する to see much of Bean, though, fun as he is, or of Peter Firth's deliciously Machiavellian Norfolk - this is all about Shardlake and Barak, a 共同 that becomes stronger and deeper as the 調書をとる／予約するs go on. Hopefully, the TV series will get the same chance to show us that. (Four episodes)

Comedy about the world's only person without a 超大国

Imagine a world in which every adult has a 超大国 except you. That's the position that sarcastic 25-year-old Jen (Mairead Tyers) finds herself in Disney's fantastical British series. From shapeshifting to flight, from 最高の strength to the ability to make anyone tell the truth, everybody else in the world got a special gift when they turned 18, but Jen is still waiting for hers to arrive.?

Can she kick-start the 過程 with the help of her weirdo flatmates? Or is she doomed to be the ordinary one in the world of the 驚くべき／特命の／臨時の? Silverback

The apes' best hope lies in 観光旅行，事業 and the 決定的な歳入 it will bring to the area, but first Vianet must 勝利，勝つ the 信用 of the family's 悪名高い alpha male, a 450lb silverback called Mpungwe, who is ひどく保護の of his 23-strong group and not easily won over... (90 minutes)?

Could Peter Capaldi be playing the bad guy? That's what you're wondering in episode one of this bruising London 罪，犯罪演劇, which 星／主役にするs Cush 巨大な as a rising 探偵，刑事 who thinks she's 設立する something 怪しげな i n an old 調査. Capaldi plays a grizzled 退役軍人 who rebuffs her 関心s, and the sparring between them is a joy to see - so it's no surprise to learn that the show was 現実に born out of 巨大な and Capaldi's 願望（する） to work on something together, and their 相互の love of 罪，犯罪演劇s.

So, is DS Lenker (巨大な) 存在 overeager and 行方不明の the bigger picture? Or is DCI Hegarty (Capaldi) covering something up? Both actors are 広大な／多数の／重要な at keeping us guessing in a rich and 新たな展開ing eight-parter that, にもかかわらず its grimy London feel, 明確に wasn't short on cash. It was created by Paul Rutman, a seasoned 罪，犯罪 writer (Vera, 視察官吊りくさび, ITV's Marple) who has weaved racial and generational 主題s into his script here. He's also pretty keen on drinks. Keep an 注目する，もくろむ out for how many times we learn character 詳細（に述べる）s from what and how people are drinking in a scene. During a Q&A after a preview 審査 for the show, Rutman 発言／述べるd that 'every cup of tea is different' and, if you watch closely in this show, you'll see that 肉親，親類d of 注目する，もくろむ for 詳細（に述べる）反映するd everywhere. Mr & Mrs Smith

A funny, grounded TV take on the 秘かに調査する film

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt met on the 始める，決める of Mr. And Mrs. Smith, the fun 2005 movie about married undercover secret スパイ／執行官s. アマゾン's TV series is based on the same 前提 and, while it doesn't have Pitt and Jolie's メガワット charm in the leads - or the gossip that surrounded them - it is a whole lot of fun and feels much more real.

Donald Glover (Atlanta) and Maya Erskine (Obi-病弱な Kenobi) are our John and Jane Smith, put together to work as a married couple by a mysterious 機関 and taking on assignments they don't understand. They move in glamorous circles for these frequently 爆発性の使節団s, but John and Jane aren't glamorous themselves - they need the money these 職業s 供給する and aren't やめる sure how much to 信用 each other, which gives the show a real sense of danger. It's also very funny at times (Glover has a long 跡をつける記録，記録的な／記録する in comedy, and is co-creator), and features a 広大な／多数の／重要な supporting cast 含むing Michaela Coel, John Turturro, Sharon Horgan and the 広大な／多数の／重要な Parker Posey.?

The real draw, though, is the to-and-fro between the Smiths. The meat of their interaction is much more about marriage and 共同 than it is about a will-they, won't-they romance, and that's a much deeper and more 利益／興味ing thing to 選ぶ apart over the course of a series. (Eight episodes)?

Renegade Nell

Sally Wainwright's family adventure about a 最高の-力／強力にするd highwaywoman

Sally Wainwright is one of our finest screenwriters. Over the years she's given us 広大な／多数の／重要な shows like At Home With The Braithwaites, Last Tango In Halifax and Happy Valley to 指名する but three. Renegade Nell, her eight-parter for Disney+, feels like her 入ること／参加（者） into the genre of family-friendly TV adventure serials, telling the story of a young 18th-century highwaywoman with special 力／強力にするs.?

Derry Girls' Louisa Harland plays the gutsy Nell who, in moments of 危険，危なくする, is able to slow 負かす／撃墜する time like Neo in The Matrix and stop 弾丸s with her 明らかにする手渡すs. Nell is very British - she says things like 'ha ve you learned nothing from the last time I duffed you all up?' - as is the show, with an array of familiar UK 事実上の／代理直面するs in supporting 役割s such as Adrian Lester, Joely Richardson and Pip Torrens, along with Ted Lasso's Nick Mohammed as a diminutive fairy at Nell's 味方する. The moments when we're not with Nell do 下落する a little - the plotting of her enemies 簡単に isn't as 利益／興味ing - but she's on-審査する a lot so it's a small problem in 状況, and the excellent 活動／戦闘 sequences are both unusual and a lot of fun. The 乾燥した，日照りの (series 2)

Darkly funny Irish 演劇 raises a glass to a very dysfunctional family

Shiv (Roisin Gallagher) arrives home in Dublin for her granny's funeral. She's 'five months, 17 days and six hours' sober - not that she's counting - and 存在 around her judgmental yet 平等に dysfunctional family will be sure to 実験（する） Shiv's 解決する.?

The 焦点（を合わせる） of this dark comedy 演劇, dubbed an Irish Fleabag, is on 中毒, though not on the 花火s of hitting 激しく揺する底（に届く） but on the everyday struggles of staying sober. And anyone would struggle with a family like this. Shiv's uptight sister Caroline (Siobhan Cullen) is a 十分な-blown misanthrope, her mum Bernie (Pom Boyd) is a just-about-機能（する）／行事ing アル中患者 and her dad (a heroically moribund Ciaran Hinds) is using his 事件／事情／状勢 with his acupuncturist as a distraction from his own 炉心溶融.

The show can be subdued and a bit melancholy at times, but the flashes of startling and いつかs painful humour are welcome 揺さぶるs that （犯罪の）一味 true more often than not. Series two opens with Shiv having her sobriety sorely 実験（する）d once again. (Two series)

Noomi Rapace 星／主役にするs in a mind-bending space thriller

Apple's thriller starts out looking like a big-予算 space 生き残り blockbuster, but 最終的に it's something much more human than that, and all the better for it as a result. The eight-parter 星／主役にするs Noomi Rapace as an 宇宙飛行士 who 苦しむs through a terrible 大災害 on the International Space 駅／配置する, then arrives 支援する on Earth to find her reality, and family, subtly but alarmingly different.?

Without giving away any spoilers, the 見解（をとる）ing experience of what follows is rather like a 探偵，刑事演劇 as we start to wonder whether Jo (Rapace) is 反応するing to the 外傷／ショック or if her life really has been changed, somehow. 'Reality is a 共謀' goes the tagline for this show and that certainly 押し進めるs you in one direction, but you can never be 完全に sure and that's the fun of a series that gives its actors a lot of ambiguity to play with. Our only 批評 is that, before it becomes （疑いを）晴らす that it's not meant to be a 急速な／放蕩な-paced 活動／戦闘 thriller, you might feel like it's moving a little slowly - but 星座 is just taking its time, and for good 推論する／理由. The final 一連の Larry David's superb comedy of 当惑

For years, Larry David has had a standing 協定 with HBO that he'll make new 一連の his 広大な／多数の／重要な comedy of 当惑 when he's good and ready. The co-creator of Seinfeld, David is one of the few comic talents in the world who can 令状 his own ticket in that regard and, while he has called time on this show on more than one occasion in the past, for this 12th series Larry 明らかに means it.?

'As 抑制（する） comes to an end, I'll now have the 適切な時期 to finally shed this "Larry David" persona and become the person God ーするつもりであるd me to be - the thoughtful, 肉親，親類d, caring, considerate human 存在 I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character,' 発言／述べるd Larry about the return of a show he began 25 years ago with the one-off special Larry David: 抑制（する） Your Enthusiasm.

Series 12 opens with David riding the fame of the Young Larry show, the breakout 星／主役にする of which is a smug rising actress who seems tailor-made to irritate him. Irritations are what 抑制（する） is all about, of course, and the first episode is 十分な of those, from an 出来事/事件 with a pair of stretched glasses to an argument over 愛称s Larry can't seem to let go off, and a 論争 with hotel housekeeping about 洗面所 water. It's all vintage, perfectly 遂行する／発効させるd 抑制（する）構成要素 and, even if it does occasionally feel almost like a parody of itself, it's still hilarious - and that's what counts. (Ten episodes) ?

Griselda

Almost unrecognisable under a raft of prosthetics designed to mimic the 強硬派-直面するd profile of real-life 麻薬 boss Griselda Blanco Restrepo, Modern Family 星／主役にする Sofia Vergara is icily impressive in this six-part miniseries. A story of 女性（の） empowerment and 残虐な criminality in equal 血まみれの gobbets, it charts the Colombian 移民，移住（する）'s rise to become one of the most powerful and 恐れるd 麻薬 importers in Miami. It's all the more powerful a story because, when she first arrives with children in 牽引する, Griselda's position is very 不安定な indeed. You can see the vulnerability in her 直面する, although it doesn't last too long.

Created by many of the same team behind Narcos and with Vergara 事実上の／代理 as 生産者, it's exciting, dark and no-持つ／拘留するs-閉めだした stuff that brings the freewheeling コカイン暗黒街 of the 1980s US to dangerous life. ビデオ game adaptations used to have a bad 指名する - does anyone remember （頭が）ひょいと動く Hoskins playing the Italian plumber Mario in 1993's 最高の Mario Bros film? It's probably best that you don't.?

Those days are now long gone though, 特に after HBO's The Last Of Us upped the 劇の賭け金 in 2023 and won eight Emmy Awards for its trouble. Fallout looks 始める，決める to continue that 傾向, coming as it does from Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, a producing 二人組 with 広大な／多数の／重要な専門的知識 in serving TV audiences big and コンビナート／複合体 worlds.

And Fallout is certainly that - the games are 始める，決める in a sprawling, 地位，任命する-apocalyptic wasteland centuries after a 核の war has 荒廃させるd the 惑星's surface. Underneath that wasteland are The 丸天井s, in which cheery 生存者s have been living lives of order and 親族高級な while those above scrabbled for 捨てるs.?

That culture 衝突／不一致 is at the centre of the series, に引き続いて Lucy (Yellowjackets' Ella Purnell) as she leaves the safety of The 丸天井s for the 大混乱 above. '事実上 every person I've met up here has tried to kill me,' she despairs in her 開始 week. It should certainly please those in search of a little popcorn entertainment and, even if it doesn't やめる reach the 劇の高さs of The Last Of Us, it's also a rich evocation of an exciting world. The big draw of True 探偵，刑事 has always been the actors, and series four has one of the best you can get - Jodie Foster, playing 探偵，刑事 Liz Danvers in the town of Ennis, Alaska. That setting is the other big attraction. As with Louisiana 支援する in series one, Alaska is a very particular place, 特に during the 明言する／公表する's long sunless winter. That's when Night Country is 始める，決める, beginning with the 見えなくなる of eight men at a remote 研究駅／配置する where bold 科学の truths were 存在 sought, and 広げるing in an 環境 where the 障壁 between our world and the next seems somewhat thin. And people seem just that little bit more 傾向がある to madness.

As such, there are moments when it all feels a little like The Thing or Sky's Fortitude, but the series always keeps its feet on the ground, and Foster's 業績／成果 as Danvers - 決定するd, 冷笑的な and manipulative with just a chink of vulnerability, very much a 'true' de tective and with a very 複雑にするd and overlapping work/family life - is a big part of why. Foster is paired with Kali Reis as 探偵，刑事 Navarro, who is very 納得させるing in a different way. Reis is also a world 支持する／優勝者 boxer, so keep that in mind during her 即時に納得させるing fight sequences. Look out for Fiona Shaw and Christopher Eccleston in the cast, too, but this show is mostly and justifiably about Foster. (Six episodes)

The Second World War experience of Coco Chanel and Christian Dior

The scars and secrets of war are the 支配する of this コンビナート／複合体 ten-part 演劇, based on what 現実に happened to fashion designers Christian Dior and Coco Chanel in 占領するd Paris during the Second World War. If you're new to the history of it, there will be surprises - 主として that Chanel 共同製作するd with the Nazis, and that Dior fought to save his younger sister, a French 抵抗闘士，戦闘機, from death at their 手渡すs in the （軍の）野営地，陣営s.?

The 演劇焦点（を合わせる）s on the whys, hows and consequences of their choices and moves across their lives, taking us through the 占領／職業 and 解放 of Paris and beyond. It comes from Todd A Kessler, who brought us the brilliant 損害賠償金, and whose 評判 and script has attracted a first-率 cast. Juliette Binoche has by far the trickiest 職業 bringing dimension to Chanel, who is 明確に始める，決める up as the villain of the piece but whom Binoche manages to でっちあげる，人を罪に陥れる as a 生存者, while Ben Mendelsohn (who starred in Kessler's Bloodline on Netflix) radiates vulnerability and 静かな nobility as Dior.?

The horror of the 占領／職業 is 熱心に realised in the open ing episodes, which also feature Game Of 王位s' Maisie Williams as Dior's sister and Dracula's Claes Bang as Chanel's slippery introduction to the Nazis. Manhunt (2024 series)

True 罪，犯罪 thriller about the search for Abraham Lincoln's 殺し屋

A 演劇 about the 追跡（する） for Abraham Lincoln's 殺し屋 doesn't sound like the most 明白に説得力のある thing to a British audience. One, we know who did it - the actor John Wilkes Booth, who 発射 the US 大統領 while he was watching a play in 1865 - and two, it happened a long time ago in the US. Still, 死刑執行 is everything - no pun ーするつもりであるd - and it soon becomes 明らかな that Manhunt is essentially a true 罪，犯罪 thriller, just one that happens to be 始める，決める more than 150 years ago, and against the inherently 利益／興味ing 背景 of a はっきりと divided country where 共謀s abound.

That last point could be said to have relevance to today's polarised US too, but what makes Manhunt 説得力のある to the more casual テレビ視聴者 is its 星／主役にする, Tobias Menzies (Outlander). Always a 説得力のある actor in whatever he does, here Menzies takes centre 行う／開催する／段階 as Edwin Stanton, Lincoln's 同僚 and friend and the man 主要な the 追跡（する）. Stanton's personal 投資 in seeing 司法（官） done is what hooks you, and the 詳細（に述べる）s of the country around h im - divided over Lincoln's 廃止 of slavery and 絡まるd up in 共謀s left, 権利 and centre - is just an intriguing 特別手当. The Tourist (Series 2)

Living in another country can be a strange and even 疎遠にするing experience, 特に if you're not really 許すd to have your own life. That's the human 核心 of this series based on the novel by Janice YK 物陰／風下, which 星／主役にするs Nicole Kidman as a mother and wife of a 法人組織の／企業の high-flyer, trying to 持つ／拘留するの上に her 身元 in Hong Kong.?

There's another dimension to this. Margaret (Kidman) has lost a child and her grief about that, and the stories of the people around her (地元のs, friends, her husband) fill out the 残り／休憩（する） of a 視野-転換ing series that jumps around a little in time, too, to build up a 一連の会議、交渉／完成するd picture of everyone's lives, lies and 動機づけs. Kidman's 業績／成果 is mesmerising and understated, and the show itself has the feel of an Oscar-worthy movie, but 広げるd and 深くするd into a six-part series - it was adapted by Lulu Wang, the writer-director of The 別れの（言葉，会）. Dazzling sci-fi adaptation from the 二人組 behind Game Of 王位s

What would you do if 外国人s were 侵略するing our 惑星, but not for hundreds of years? T hat's one of the many questions 提起する／ポーズをとるd by this epic sci-fi thriller based on a trilogy of Chinese novels. 3 団体／死体 Problem comes from David Benioff and DB Weiss, the pair who adapted Game Of 王位s, and has a 類似して impressive 範囲. The storyline flits between the stunningly re-created 1960s 中国 of the Cultural 革命, a mysterious 事実上の reality 模擬実験／偽ること and 現在の day Oxford (転換d from 中国 in the 調書をとる／予約するs), where a quintet of scientists - the 'Oxford Five' - 刻々と realise that something terrible is happening out in space. One of them will be familiar to 王位s fans - it's John Bradley, who played the studious Samwell - while Benioff and Weiss brought plenty of behind-the-scenes talent with them from their HBO fantasy show, too.

To say more would spoil the 新たな展開s and turns of this eight-part first series, although we will say that the adaptation takes some challengingly コンビナート／複合体 source 構成要素 and manages to weave it into a 高度に watchable and entertaining series without losing what made the 初めの so remarkable - the cleverness of its 概念s, and the sheer 外国人-ness of its invaders. And, as you'd 推定する／予想する since it's based on a trilogy, the way this （製品，工事材料の）一回分 ends certainly leaves room for a return. (Eight episodes)?

Palm 王室の

Kristen Wiig 星／主役にするs as a social 登山者決定するd to 割れ目 1969 Florida high society

The series is based on the novel Mr & Mrs American Pie by Juliet McDaniel, and the 楽しみ in watching the story 発展させる is in seeing the lengths Maxine will go to ーするために安全な・保証する the social elevation she so dearly wants, and the comeuppance others get along the way. A Gentleman In Moscow

Ewan McGregor 星／主役にするs in this tale of an aristocrat living a life 宣告，判決 in 革命の Russia

持つ／拘留するing の上に your dignity in adversity is an 控訴，上告ing idea, and it's at the heart of this eight-part adaptation of Amor Towles's novel. Ewan McGregor 星／主役にするs as Count Alexander Rostov, a man of wealth and taste who loses the first of those to the ロシアの革命. The Bolsheviks 宣告，判決 him to life inside the gilded cage of the Hotel Metropol, a place where, Rostov is told, he will be 発射 if he leaves.?

As the １０年間s pass, the Count 努力する／競うs to 持つ／拘留するの上に his taste and goo d manners, and 刻々と finds new things to live for. McGregor brings a childlike sense of hope to the 役割, a hope that's tempered by the very real sense that, 特に at the start, the hotel is not just a cage but also a 罠（にかける）.?

Aside from McGregor's 業績／成果, the 場所 is the 重要な to this show's success. The finely 詳細（に述べる）d 始める，決める was built in Manchester, and created on such a 規模 that it 許すd the cast to lose themselves in their 環境 - at least one of them would play the hotel's piano in idle moments. You're 権利 there with Rostov as he 旅行s through the １０年間s, in a show that gives us both a very 狭くする and a very 幅の広い picture of how a life and country can change.?

What may not be （疑いを）晴らす about A Gentleman In Moscow is that it's also disarmingly funny at times, partly in those moments when Rostov is 粘着するing to his 身元 as a gentleman, 主張するing on such things as his 正規の／正選手任命 with the hotel barber. Those moments also 持つ／拘留する a danger and a poignancy in them. 最終的に, the way all of that can co-存在する in one scene gives you an idea of how lightly this show wears its 実体. (Eight episodes)?

Mandy (series 3)

Diane Morgan's comedy 創造 has hapless adventures in the 職業 market

Whether she's 飛行機で行くing high or low, Mandy always 選ぶs herself up and starts again. (Three series)

The 広大な／多数の／重要な David Attenborough tells us the 200-million-year story of 哺乳動物s

Even at 97 years old, David Attenborough 辞退するs to retire - and that's good news for us as he's still at the 最高の，を越す of his game. As its 肩書を与える示唆するs, this six-parter tells the story of 哺乳動物s (含むing humans), which began 200 million years ago, at the time of the dinosaurs.?

Episode one 焦点（を合わせる）s on animal behaviour after dark (in fact, more than two-thirds of 哺乳動物種類 are nocturnal). We follow a ヒョウ - which has superb night-見通し - as she 追跡（する）s, filmed using sophisticated cameras that 逮捕（する） her climbing up trees in exquisite 詳細（に述べる）. We also see foxes and hyenas, before a truly 素晴らしい sequence where Sir David explains how bats have 征服する／打ち勝つd the night skies. The incredible second instalment 診察するs how human dominance over the 惑星 is 衝撃ing other 哺乳動物s, and it goes on in very 罰金 style from there. (Six episodes)?

The 政権

Kate Winslet 配達するs a fascinating 業績／成果 as a deranged 独裁者

You never know what's coming next in this six-part mix of 演劇 and political satire, and that's the glory of it. A big part of why is Kate Winslet's deranged but somehow emotionally 一貫した業績／成果 as （ドイツなどの）首相／（大学の）学長 Elena Vernham, the leader of a proud but economically hobbled Central European nation.?

Vernham is a seemingly 安定性のない woman 十分な of contradictions, the most obvious of which is that she is a trained doctor but is terrified of invisible spores, and has ordered that her palace be 絶えず監視するd for 調印するs of mould. Is she really 脅すd, though, or is her 恐れる just a way of controlling her staff??

Into this nest of paranoia steps a troubled 兵士新採用するd by Vernham to be her new assistant, and we learn 刻々と more about her 政権 from that point on. We won't spoil what happens because the 予測できなく of the story and the way it plays with your 視野 is part of the fun.?

Of the cast, Winslet's 業績／成果 is the undoubted centrepiece but there are other standouts, 主として the chameleonic Andrea Riseborough as Vernham's most level-長，率いるd 従業員. Hugh 認める is in it too, but the いっそう少なく明らかにする／漏らすd about why the better - he's not part of either of the two musical numbers though, we'll say that much. (Six episodes)?

Blue Lights (Series 2)

This Northern Irish 警官，（賞などを）獲得する show struck a chord with critics and audiences alike, and now the 'Peelers' are 支援する for a second series. 罪，犯罪 is flooding the streets of Belfast, but this first episode spend s as much time reacquainting us with the characters - rookies, 退役軍人s and dearly 出発／死d - as it does 設立するing that there's a new 罪，犯罪ギャング（団） in town.?

Partners Stevie and Grace are still flirting over their lunchboxes, Tommy (Nathan Braniff) catches the 注目する，もくろむ of the 議会の仕事軍隊 whilst also trying to sort out his love life and Annie gets an eyeful of the hunky new guy Shane (Frank Blake).?

Jen (Hannah McClean), 一方／合間, might have left the 軍隊, but has not forgotten her late comrade, Gerry. She's now working as a solicitor and 始める，決めるs out to 調査／捜査する the 半導体素子-shop 爆破 that haunted him.?

As for that 罪，犯罪 wave, you can 推定する／予想する plenty of nail-biting 活動／戦闘 for the 返答 teams, from life-脅すing stand-offs with desperate junkies to 劇の救助（する）s from 燃やすing buildings. (Six episodes)

Franklin

Michael Douglas 向こうずねs as Benjamin Franklin in a 演劇 about saving America from 敗北・負かす

There's a lot to recommend this rich, eight-part 演劇, and it's got a wonderfully simple 前提: に引き続いて Benjamin Franklin as he asks the French to save the Americans from 敗北・負かす by the British.?

This desperate 追求（する），探索（する） for help makes it an underdog tale, which is always an 控訴，上告ing thing to watch, and they've got a coming-of-age story in there too, as Franklin is …を伴ってd by his naive grandson, a boy who has a lot to learn.

It's also a political show about 二塁打-取引，協定ing and betrayal but, first and 真っ先の, it's a character 熟考する／考慮する of Franklin himself. You need a good actor for that and thankfully they have a 広大な／多数の／重要な one in Michael Douglas, and watching this Hollywood legend twinkle and 計画／陰謀 his way through one 状況／情勢 after another is a delight in itself.?

Daniel Mays is another 有望な point on the cast as Edward Bancroft, one of his 同盟（する）s in フラン, as is Ludivine Sagnier as Anne Louise Brillon de Jouy, a married Frenchwoman who catches Franklin's 注目する，もくろむ. The scenes between the two of them are the only time when Franklin fully lets his guard 負かす／撃墜する, and give the show a real heart, too. ?(Eight episodes)?

驚くべき／特命の／臨時の合法的な実験 follows the restaging of a real-life 殺人裁判，公判 - with not one but two 陪審／陪審員団s

This 説得力のある four-parter is sure to get you talking. It's the recreation of a 殺人裁判，公判. The 新たな展開 is that we will follow the 賠審員s as they 審議する／熟考する throughout - something which is 厳密に禁じるd during actual 訴訟／進行s. Not only that, but there are not one, but two 始める，決めるs of 12 賠審員s, all chosen 完全に at 無作為の, just as they are in the real world.?

The 事例／患者 itself is far from 削減（する） and 乾燥した，日照りのd: a man （刑事）被告 of 殺人，大当り his wife, who 収容する／認めるs 原因（となる）ing her death, but 否定するs 殺人. You get a （疑いを）晴らす sense of the extreme 圧力 the 賠審員s are under, and the differences of opinion.?

There is also the very real prospect of two different 判決s, and although it is 行う／開催する／段階d and there are no real-world consequences, this is not pure fantasy; this is how the 賠審員 system really 作品. (Four episodes)

Big Mood

Comedy starring Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West as best friends forever

Frequently very funny, and also touching and wild, this millennial comedy celebrates 女性（の） friendship while reminding us that life for 30-some thing, not-so-young adults is fraught with 大混乱 and 不確定. 特に when you を煩う bipolar disorder.?

Derry Girls' Nicola Coughlan is perfect casting as Maggie, whose mood slips from way up to 深い負かす／撃墜する in a （警官の）巡回区域，受持ち区域. 'It's not a funk, it's a mood disorder,' she says of her illness, which is never swept under the carpet or 扱う／治療するd as a タブー支配する. 母国's Mandy Patinkin plays Cotesworth, a man 'brought low by circumstance', while his prime 嫌疑者，容疑者／疑う for the 罪，犯罪 is Imo 遺伝子 Scott (Violet Beane), a woman who 主張するs she's innocent and who Cotesworth has known since she was a child. So, the two work together to 証明する she didn't do it. Now, ten episodes is a long time to 支える one mystery and it's true that you can feel the 緊張する on the script at times. Still, these 肉親，親類d of shows don't come along often and the sunny setting, rogues gallery of guests and many 新たな展開s and turns - some of which 伴う／関わる jumping 支援する and 今後 in time - make for pleasingly 刺激するing 見解（をとる）ing. Patinkin and Beane also make for a decent 半端物-couple 二塁打行為／法令／行動する, and the show has some thought-刺激するing things to say about memory along the way. (Ten episodes)?

Breathtaking

冷気／寒がらせるing 演劇 recreating the 早期に days of the pandemic inside a big city hospital

As this is based on the 調書をとる／予約する by NHS doctor Rachel Clarke, who wrote about working in a big city hospital in the 早期に days of the Covid-19 pandemic, you know it's going to be a harrowing watch. With her everywoman 質, Joanne Froggatt (Downton, Liar) is perfectly cast as Dr Abbey Henderson. The 混乱 at the start of the pandemic is palpable, intercut with those all-too-familiar 公式の／役人告示s from 政治家，政治屋s and 医療の専門家s.?

Electrifying 1980s-始める，決める series from Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight

The series begins with Dr Nolan barely 生き残るing a car 衝突，墜落 in Beijing while at a 医療の会議／協議会 - but far worse is to come. This series won't 勝利，勝つ any prizes for realism, but writer Peter A Dowling, who created the successful 2005 movie Flightplan starring Jodie Foster, about a girl who goes 行方不明の on a transatlantic flight, sure knows how to keep us watching. (Six episodes)?

His Turpin becomes a ギャング（団） leader by 事故, and is surrounded by many familiar British comedy actors 含むing 示す Heap, Marc Wootton, Joe Wilkinson and Ellie White - and then there's Hugh Bonneville, also having a grand old time as Turpin's nemesis, the どろぼう-Taker General.?

The 開始始める，決める-up for the whole thing is Turpin re-telling his life story to a 脚本家-turned-true-罪，犯罪 writer (Dolly 井戸／弁護士席s) in a tavern, a 前提 that carries a whiff of satire. The show as a whole is a pleasin gly irreverent and ridiculous 事件／事情／状勢, occasionally reminiscent of a very expensive episode of Horrible Histories but without the songs and facts - and that's not a 批評. Alice & Jack

Disarmingly funny romance starring Domhnall Gleeson and Andrea Riseborough
