So, this really was it. I was の中で the very first to 運動 Rolls-Royce’s very first electric car called Spectre.
And it truly was electrifying.
I was 特権d to be one of only a handful of people from around the globe to be 許すd behind the wheel of a 近づく 生産/産物-ready 見解/翻訳/版 of the sleek 殴打/砲列-力/強力にするd 無-放出/発行s 高級な fastback that is 始める,決める to revolutionise the British 高級な car-製造者.
And what an 注目する,もくろむ-開始 扱う/治療する and delight this 最高の-クーデター turned out to be.
Rolls-Royce Spectre driven: We are の中で the first in the world to take to the wheel of the British 高級な brand's first fully-electric model. Here's what it's like from a driver's 視野
The Spectre is the first Rolls-Royce car with a plug. It will cost from £350,000 when first 配達/演説/出産s take place later this year - though most models will have bespoke features that will 押し進める the 普通の/平均(する) 支出 on each 見解/翻訳/版 to half a million
Although prices for Spectre will start at around £350,000, the high level of bespoke 選択s so beloved of Rolls-Royce 顧客s means the 打率 支出 is likely to be closer to £500,000. So, you’d 推定する/予想する it to be special.
For my road 実験(する) I had flown to South Africa, where Spectre is coming に向かって the end of its 全世界の 1.5 million-mile 実験(する)ing programme ? 同等(の) to circumnavigating the globe 62 times - with around 1.24 million miles already 完全にするd.
Here, the 運動s were taking place in two 場所s ? baking hot and 乾燥した,日照りの Augrabies in the Northern Cape where 気温s 最高の,を越す 50C - and in the more Mediterranean-style Western Cape French Corner winelands, around Franschhoek, 近づく Cape Town.

This was not my first 遭遇(する) with Spectre.
In March last year, I 棒 shotgun in the 乗客 seat of a 偽装するd 実験(する) 見解/翻訳/版 on the 辛勝する/優位 of the 北極の Circle, with much of the dashboard covered up, as it underwent 厳しい 冷淡な 天候 実験(する)ing around the remote Swedish town of Arjeplog.
The Spectre is on the final 脚 of its 全世界の 1.5 million-mile 実験(する)ing programme ? 同等(の) to circumnavigating the globe 62 times - with around 1.24 million miles already 完全にするd. This took place in S outh Africa, where we travelled to 運動 it

My driver then was Spectre’s 事業/計画(する) leader, the effervescent and irrepressible Dr Joerg Wunder ? ‘Doctor Wonder’.

Spectre certainly has real road presence. First impressions are of a 広範囲にわたる aerodynamic two-door four-seater, with a 簡素化するd Spirit of Ecstasy 飛行機で行くing Lady at its prow. It’s been 特に 形態/調整d to 減ずる 空気/公表する 抵抗 even more, and you can even 明示する an illuminated 見解/翻訳/版 as an 選択.
The fun begins the moment you step through one of the two 後部-hinged doors and into the low-slung cabin. For there’s the delicate 事柄 of の近くにing the door behind you.
Now, as 顧客s will most likely be 運動ing themselves ? it’s a driver’s car after all ? there won’t be an attendant or chauffeur to do it for you. And at around 1.5m these are the largest pillarless coach doors ever fitted to a Rolls-Royce.

The dashboard and 操縦室 is sophisticated, simple, relaxing, 抑制するd and sedate. No whizz-bang flashing lights or sci-fi styling, shouting ‘I’m an electric Rolls-Royce’.
It’s 簡単に a Rolls-Royce, though a beautiful one at that. And making things look simple and effortless is usually the most コンビナート/複合体 of 仕事s that the 高級な legend pulls after masterfully.
As a driver Spectre feels cosseting, low and sporty in 前線. Yet there’s also a surprising 量 of room for two 乗客s in the 後部, thanks to clever design and the わずかに 嘘(をつく)-支援する positioning of the seats.
Then I 解雇する/砲火/射撃d her up. There’s a 静める almost silent but faintly perceptible トン as the モーターs spring to life. Rolls-Royce used the 緊張するs of a professional harpist to create just the 権利 ambience.
運動ing Spectre is the easiest thing in the world. There’s no clutter of dials and buttons. The car does most of the work for you, leaving you to enjoy the experience.
It is 力/強力にするd by a mighty 577 horsepower (430kW) electric モーター and 殴打/砲列 configuration which 推進するs the 近づく 3 tonne 乗り物 from 0 to 60mph in just 4.4 seconds up to a 最高の,を越す 速度(を上げる) 推定する/予想するd to be 限られた/立憲的な to 155mph.
But it also has a 重要な 十分な-告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 範囲 of up to 323 miles (520km)? enough to 運動 from London to just north of Newcastle.

On the winding mountain roads of the Cape, Spectre is sure-footed, nimble, and amazingly responsive. Rolls-Royce always 目的(とする)s to produce in its cars a 魔法 carpet ride, and with Spectre it has electrified it.

And it is fun. You won’t get bored 運動ing this car. After for a long 運動 in this electric grand tourer, you’ll probably arrive feeling fresher than when you started.

I joined the new Spectre at a 批判的な time in its progression に向かって first 顧客 配達/演説/出産s later this autumn.

What is so remarkable about Spectre, though only in rarefied Rolls-Royce 条件 I should 強調する/ストレス, is just how unremarkable it feels. It looks, 運動s, and cossets you just like you would 推定する/予想する a Roll-Royce to do. At no time did I think: ’This is an electric car.’
I needed to make no 妥協s or allowances. The company 主張するs it is making a Rolls-Royce first, and in that 尊敬(する)・点 it has fully 後継するd.
Rolls-Royce 顧客s want their 高級な cars to be hassle 解放する/自由な ? but they also 信用 Rolls-Royce’s engineers to know what is good for them. And they only know that when they experience it for themselves.
Built with pride by the 2,000-strong 全労働人口 at Goodwood, 近づく Chichester in West Sussex, Spectre has the biggest 始める,決める of cobalt-lithium 殴打/砲列s in the parent BMW group.
And they don’t just 供給する 力/強力にする. They also 二塁打 as 700kg of useful sound deadening. But while silence may be golden, total silence can be disorienting and even make you feel queasy. So, engineers have to carefully 許す some controlled, natural ambient noise, as this is what we, as human 存在s, are used to. It’s an exceptionally delicate balance, but it 作品.

It has nearly 4.5 miles of wiring, compared to 1.25 miles in 石油 driven Rolls-Royces, and 25 times more programmes or algorithms.

Rolls-Royce say their cars are perfectly ふさわしい to electric 力/強力にする and that in 1900, Rolls-Royce co-創立者, the Honourable Charles Rolls 現実に ? who bought his own 早期に electric car - prophesised an electric 未来 for a clean, noiseless モーター car.

In 2011 Rolls-Royce produced an 実験の one-off electric 原型 ? based on a Phantom ? called 102EX which I drove around Sussex. But it was before its time and 殴打/砲列 範囲 need to develop. It was followed in 2016 by the futuristic 概念 103EX.
