DAN HODGES: How the 陰謀（を企てる） against Rishi really fell apart - and 調印（する）d the 運命／宿命 of the party
It was a fortnight ago in the dingy 地階 of a dive 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業 in London’s Soho that the Tory Party’s 運命／宿命 was finally 調印（する）d. As the 1980s 攻撃する，衝突する Don’t Stop Believin’ blared out across the Arts Theatre Club, a 上級の No 10 助言者 and 主要な Tory 反逆者／反逆する 注目する，もくろむd each other warily.
Rishi Sunak’s 補佐官 exclaimed in exasperation: ‘Why are you doing this? All that’s going to happen is you’ll 手渡す the 選挙 to Starmer.’
‘You （機の）カム for us,’ the plotter replied. ‘We didn’t have any choice.’ Then he paused. ‘But you’re 権利,’ he 認める, ‘it can’t go on like this.’
The 陰謀（を企てる） to 倒れる Sunak is over.

にもかかわらず the worst 地元の 選挙 results for the Tory Party in almost half a century, the disparate group of backbench MPs 愛称d The Five Families have decided to 告訴する for peace. ‘There’s no point in trying to 除去する Rishi now,’ one MP told me. ‘We don’t have enough MPs’ 投票（する）s, and even if we did, we don’t have a 候補者.’
So the 保守的な Party is 部隊d. The One Nation 自由主義のs, The Red Wallers, The Spartans, the New 保守的なs, The Pop 反対／詐欺s ? all are together at last. Marching themselves and their party に向かって 選挙（人）の oblivion.
As the 地元の 選挙 results began to trickle in on Thursday night, Tory 公式の／役人s reached wearily for their pre-（手先の）技術d lines to take. 保守的な Party Chairman Richard Holden （人命などを）奪う，主張するd the results were ‘typical for a 政府 中央の-称する，呼ぶ／期間／用語’.
But we are not 中央の-称する，呼ぶ／期間／用語. A General 選挙 is just months away. This is the moment in the 選挙（人）の cycle when public opinion is supposed to swing grudgingly 支援する に向かって the 治める／統治するing party. Instead, it’s lurching decisively in the other direction. The 投票s are beginning to show the Tories slipping below 20 per cent, with 改革（する） snapping at their heels. And this is before Nigel Farage’s 推定する／予想するd return to the 前線 line.
Rishi Sunak’s 広大な／多数の／重要な political reset. His ‘narrative-転換ing’ 会議／協議会 speech. The ‘game-changing’ 予算. Each has been... and gone.
And as every month has passed, so another nail has been driven into the Tory casket.
At the start of the year ? the year of the 広大な／多数の／重要な 保守的な Fightback ? Sir Keir Starmer enjoyed an 普通の／平均（する） 18-point 投票 lead. It has now risen to 21 points.
There will be no fightback. Because there is no longer any fight left in the Tory Party.
By 棚上げにするing 計画（する）s to 除去する Sunak ? a leader who, in the public’s 注目する，もくろむs, is 成し遂げるing worse than Liz Truss did ? the 保守的なs have run up the white 旗.
One 大臣 told me last week: ‘I still think we can turn things 一連の会議、交渉／完成する. Keir Starmer isn’t Blair.’
訂正する. He isn’t Tony Blair. And yet he is outperforming Blair both in the 投票s, and in actual 投票（する）s cast at the 投票（する） box. Which just 証明するs how 破産者／倒産した the Tories’ ‘Stick With Rishi And Something Might Turn Up’ 戦略 is.
What is Sunak’s actual 計画（する） to turn his party’s political fortunes around? At the moment, it seems to 構成する three ? 平等に self-敗北・負かすing ? 構成要素s.
First, an inexplicable 願望（する） to smother the nation beneath a 一面に覆う／毛布 of nanny-stateism. Smoking 禁止（する）s. 禁止（する）s on 動きやすい phones for 十代の少年少女s. 制限s on 賭事ing. 政策s so 離婚d from people’s 優先s that they 簡単に 増強する the impression the 総理大臣 存在するs not so much in a 泡, as a 泡 on a 惑星 位置を示すd in a distant 星雲.
Second, Sunak is pinning his entire 国内の 協議事項 on ‘stopping the boats’. Yet last week we saw just how likely he is to 達成する that 目的（とする）. No 10 tried to spin the Rwanda 計画／陰謀 was already producing results, with the first 亡命-探検者 除去するd to Kigali. It then transpired this 単独の 被追放者 had been paid £3,000 and had gone 任意に.
An 試みる／企てる to 除去する 難民s to the Bibby Stockholm 船 in Dorset ended when the coach taking them was surrounded by a 暴徒 and its tyres were 削除するd.
The Home Office then 発表するd 711 migrants had crossed the Channel in a 選び出す／独身 day, the highest number of the year.

And then there is the is supposed 魔法 弾丸 of 税金 削減（する）s. ‘We’ll have one more major 会計の event so as to 配達する proper 削減（する）s,’ another 大臣 明らかにする／漏らすd to me. ‘That’ll be the last chance to 転換 the 審議.’
It won’t. A その上の 削減 in 国家の 保険 支払い（額）s, or even the basic 税金 率, has become the PM’s Mrs Merton 政策.
‘What first attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels?’ the late comedienne Caroline Aherne’s alter ego famously asked Debbie McGee. ‘What first attracted you to the 概念 of 税金 削減（する）s with an 選挙 a few months away and your party 25 points behind in the 投票s, Mr Sunak?’
The 政策 is so transparently 動機づけるd by political self-利益／興味 that there’ll be no 選挙（人）の 利益. 投票者s will pocket their pre-選挙 賄賂, remember the years of 緊縮 and the cost-of-living 危機 that に先行するd it, and cast their 投票（する）s for 労働.
There are things Tory MPs could still have done to save themselves, if not their 政府.
Ben Houchen's victory in the Tees Valley 市長の 選挙 shows the 選挙民 is still 用意が出来ている to 答える／応じる to Tory 候補者s who 削減（する） themselves loose from Sunak and his 有毒な 首相の職.
同盟（する）s of Boris Johnson （人命などを）奪う，主張する the former PM is like a ‘coiled snake’ waiting to race to the 救助（する） of his party.
労働’s 落ちるing 投票（する） 株 in イスラム教徒 areas 明らかにする／漏らすs their 内部の 分割s over Gaza and other 問題／発行するs are very real, and could yet be 偉業／利用するd if Sunak could pluck up the courage to call a snap 選挙.
But the 保守的な Party is all out of courage.
So its MPs have 選ぶd to 行為／法令／行動する like the political 同等（の） of the 乗客s in that festive 災害 movie The Poseidon Adventure. Rather than join 遺伝子 Hackman’s character clambering up the Christmas tree in one bold, final 試みる／企てる at escape, they have chosen to stay with the ship’s purser.
And so red wave after red wave will continue to flood into their doomed 大型船, it will 結局 disappear beneath the waves, and everyone and everything will be lost. Yet before that moment arrives, Britain must 耐える a few more months of 国家の purgatory. Leaderless. Directionless. Visionless.
At least we now know for 確かな how it ends. In craven capitulation. And with a once stout 政党 abandoning itself, and the British people, to their 運命／宿命.
