Gibraltar 激しく揺するs! A floating hotel, family-friendly beaches, lively nightlife and even a decent cuppa を待つ at this historic British outpost

  • Gibraltar has a lively night scene, beaches, 野性生物 and みごたえのある scenery?
  • It has 日光 - even 深い into October - and you can walk everywhere??

You want 日光 ― even 深い into October ― but aren’t keen to go too far to find it. In fact, you’ve 支配するd out anything much more than three hours away, 特に with young children in 牽引する.

You’re looking for friendly people, a lively night scene, beaches, 野性生物, みごたえのある scenery, and if a language 障壁 can be 避けるd, then so much the better. Oh, and a decent cuppa would be wonderful.

井戸/弁護士席, wave those Union 旗s, raise those glasses of warm ale and get 負かす/撃墜する to Gibraltar, where you’ll be doing your bit to support a self-治める/統治するing British Overseas 領土, which Spain would love to get its 手渡すs on. What’s more, there have been no coronavirus-based deaths on the 半島 and we are now 解放する/自由な to come and go without any need for 検疫.

Big deal: Gibraltar is only 2.6 sq miles so you can walk everywhere, though you need to be fit to manage some of the near-vertical trails on the western face

Still, it’s a funny old place. The 半導体素子 shop in Casement Square is called Al Fresco’s and I’m not sure if irony is 存在 served here along with the 乱打するd cod and mushy peas; Winston Churchill Avenue 削減(する)s across the airport 滑走路; the 居住(者) 200 or so macaque monkeys 提起する/ポーズをとる politely for selfies as if they’ve been trained to do so and there was 広大な/多数の/重要な excitement at the 開始 of the first Starbucks.

Throw in Main Street, with Debenhams and Dorothy Perkins taking pride of place, 二塁打 decker buses and a bingo hall, and you’ve got an 平易な 的 for jokes at Gib’s expense. ‘It’s like Littlehampton but with the 天候,’ says a man at the hotel where I’m staying.

It’s nothing of the 肉親,親類d, of course. No disrespect to Littlehampton but you can see Africa from Gibraltar, which explains why there are 311 sunny days a year; you’re never much more than ten minutes from the airport; Gorham’s 洞穴 (場所/位置 of the last Neanderthal Man) has been given UNESCO World 遺産 status; イルカs play in the bay; the 11th century Moorish 城 stands proudly above さまざまな battlements and it’s here that Lord Nelson’s 団体/死体 (pickled in a バーレル/樽 of rum) was brought 岸に after the 戦う/戦い of Trafalgar.

Gibraltar is only 2.6 sq miles so you can walk everywhere, though you need to be fit to manage some of the 近づく-vertical 追跡するs on the western 直面する.

There are 34,000 永久の 居住(者)s with ― in normal times ― as many as 10,000 people coming over each day to work, many of them 雇うd in the 妨げる/法廷,弁護士業s and restaurants on 埋め立てるd land now known as Ocean Village.

This is where I’m staying on a 巡航する ship called Sunborn that doesn’t 巡航する anywhere. Instead, it sits in the marina, the sun bouncing off its shiny finish and with an excellent spa on one deck and a casino on another.

My cabin is supremely comfortable with a good-size balcony and 抱擁する TV, which of course features all the same channels as 支援する home. Watching the 10 o’clock news at 11pm (with the time difference) in balmy heat is a 扱う/治療する.

Yes, there might be a Burger King and Pizza Hut here, a McDonald’s there, but I eat spectacularly 井戸/弁護士席, first at Sunborn’s ‘North African fusion’ Sky restaurant on Deck 7, then at The Lounge, and finally at the 上陸s. These last two are at Queensway Quay, from where you can watch the sunset without any 恐れる of interruption from fruit machines or Sky sports. It knocks the socks off Puerto Banus not too many miles away along the Costa del Sol.

The Queen was in Gibraltar in 1954 but has never returned. 推定では, any visit would be construed as sticking two fingers up at the Spanish, even though they don’t have a 脚 to stand on given that it was ceded to 広大な/多数の/重要な Britain ‘in perpetuity’ under the 条約 of Utrecht in 1713.

There’s a 黒人/ボイコット-and-white photo of HM on 小旅行する here. It’s at The 激しく揺する hotel, which 占領するs a superb position above the botanical gardens and not far from Trafalgar 共同墓地, かもしれない the most 平和的な and prettiest I’ve ever seen. Also on that hotel 塀で囲む is a picture of John Lennon and Yoko Ono に引き続いて their wedding here in 1969. They look happy. Gibraltar might not be an obvious choice to celebrate one’s nuptials ― but you would have fun.
