More than four out of five cars advertised through Facebook's online 貿易(する)ing 壇・綱領・公約 Marketplace are scam listings, High Street bank Santander 見積(る)s.

If you search for any car type on Facebook Marketplace, it is likely 詐欺 広告s will be の中で the 最高の,を越す results, Santander 警告するs.

Chris Ainsley, who is 長,率いる of 詐欺 危険 管理/経営 at Santander and led the 研究, says a team 徹底的に捜すd Facebook Marketplace earlier this month to 査定する/(税金などを)課す the 規模 of fraudulent car adverts.

Within 30 minutes of running searches for different types of cars, the 捜査官/調査官s 設立する 25 偽の 販売人 accounts and a staggering 4,000 adverts.?

That 量s to 160 cars per 販売人 on aver age. One profile had 687 adverts for 偽の cars.

Hundreds of accounts 地位,任命する adverts in the UK, which 示すs there could be up to 100,000 scam listings at any one time, they 見積(る).?

A search for 'Volvo' on Facebook Marketplace showed just one 本物の sale, and nine scam 地位,任命するs in the 最高の,を越す listings.

Mr Ainsley says: 'What we 設立する on Facebook Marketplace is really 関心ing and problematic.?

'We have raised it with Meta because we want them to understand the 規模 of the problem ― it is costing thousands of people in the UK.'

The 保険 詐欺 Bureau say there has already been countless 事例/患者s of vulnerable people every day 的d by scammers who use paid advert spoof websites to appear at the 最高の,を越す of Google and other search engines to dupe unwitting drivers into thinking they will be redirected to the 場所/位置 of the 本物の 保険会社.

People looking to make a (人命などを)奪う,主張する can inadvertently 接触する one of these third-party 場所/位置s 経由で an 広告 and think they're 取引,協定ing with their provider, only to be 罠にかける in 合法的な 協定s with unknown 会社/堅いs and 直面するing costs of up to £50,000.

Ofelia Forbes fell 犠牲者 to a 偽の car scam in September, when she 猛烈に needed to buy a car for her work as a carer.

After months of saving, the 26-year-old, who moved to Nottingham from Jamaica just six months ago, was ready to buy a car on September 17 and 敏速に went online to find her new 乗り物.

She 設立する a Kia Picanto 2021 model 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる)d for sale on Facebook Marketplace for £1,500 and 接触するd the 販売人 経由で Messenger.

The 販売人, Peter, appeared friendly in his profile picture, she says.

'He seemed like an older gentleman who you would 尊敬(する)・点.?

'There was a link to his company's website where there were reviews from happy 顧客s.?

'I also searched his 指名する online and 設立する no 指示,表示する物 of a scam.'

Ofelia told Peter she was 利益/興味d in the car and asked for it to be 配達するd from Manchester to her home.?

She paid a £250 deposit on the car and was told 配達/演説/出産 would be the に引き続いて day.

Ofelia says: 'We agreed that the next 支払い(額) would be made when I received the car.?

'However, on the day of the 配達/演説/出産 he called to say all was on schedule but I needed to 支払う/賃金 £500 for the 保険 and paperwork.'

Ofelia was told she would have to 支払う/賃金 the £500 if she 手配中の,お尋ね者 it 配達するd that day and that the car wouldn't be on the road until the money (機の)カム through.?

'I didn't understand why they needed money for 保険 and asked them about it. But I needed the car so I paid it,' she says.

But a few hours later, Peter told her the money had not arrived and there had been an 問題/発行する with the first 支払い(額) so I would need to send another £500.?

The Ford Fiesta was the most 一般的に 的d 乗り物 scam 経由で 偽の adverts online.

Scammers also featured BMWs and Audis ひどく in 偽の 広告s, with motorbikes and classic cars also cropping up 定期的に.

'At this point I was nervous because I was 支払う/賃金ing more than half of the total without getting any 確定/確認 the car was on its way but I paid it anyway,' she says.

Twenty minutes later, Peter told her the money had been received, the car was on its way and would arrive at her home at 2pm.?

The carer asked to see the driver's 場所 or some form of proof but was told the driver could not do that.

She says: 'He just kept telling me to be 患者 and remain 静める.'

An hour later, another message from Peter arrived ― the driver needed £100 to 支払う/賃金 for 石油 as he had run out.

'I'd never heard of this happening before so I was getting annoyed but he 脅すd that I wouldn't see the car if I didn't 支払う/賃金 so I did,' she says.

Ofelia was told the car was 支援する on the road but when the car was just 15 minutes away she 攻撃する,衝突する another bump in the road.

'Peter said the driver was really の近くに now and was 指名するing 地元の streets. He said I should go ahead and 支払う/賃金 the final £150 so that when it arrived everything would happen 滑らかに, given how many 延期するs there had been already. At first, Ofelia 辞退するd because she was worried it was a scam.

But when she raised her 関心s, he told her they run a good 商売/仕事. 'He kept giving me 推論する/理由s to 支払う/賃金 so I did. But the car didn't arrive.

'I was begging him, 説 please don't let this be a scam because I already explained to him I really need this car.

'He started to laugh and said all was ok. But then when there was still no 調印する of the car I asked what the problem was and he just replied 'LOL'.'

Within seconds, Ofelia was 封鎖するd by Peter and could make no 接触する. 'I was in dis belief but that's when I realised and I felt sick,' she says.

The carer called her bank, Lloyds, and 活動/戦闘 詐欺 to 報告(する)/憶測 the 罪,犯罪. She received £500 in reimbursement from Lloyds and a その上の £125 に引き続いて Money Mail's 介入.

Hotbed for fraudsters

Facebook Marketplace has 爆発するd in 人気 in 最近の years. It was 初めは popular in 地元の communities as you could see what someone in your area was selling.?
