My mortgage 使用/適用 was 拒絶するd because a scammer opened a Three 動きやすい account in my 指名する

  • Scammer took out a 契約 with Daniel's 指名する and 演説(する)/住所 to get a 解放する/自由な phone
  • When 支払い(額)s weren't made on the account, this 損失d his credit 得点する/非難する/20
  • Has this happened to you? Email?helen.kirrane@thisismoney.co.uk?

When Daniel Goble's mortgage 使用/適用 was 拒絶するd, he had no idea that it was because a scammer had opened a Three 動きやすい account in his 指名する a year before.

After making some enquiries, he learned that the scammer had used his 指名する and an old 演説(する)/住所 he was no longer living at to open a Three 動きやすい account and order a phone.

The bank 詳細(に述べる)s used to open the account were 偽の, so he didn't lose any money. But it meant the 法案 for the phone was never paid - and this is where Daniel got into trouble.??

The scammer got a 解放する/自由な 最高の,を越す-of-the-範囲 phone, while Daniel, 46, from Kent, got a 損失d credit 得点する/非難する/20 after the Three account went into default に引き続いて five 行方不明になるd 支払い(額)s 量ing to £643.09.?

When he asked for the account to be identified as fraudulent and の近くにd 負かす/撃墜する, Three was unable to even find it.

The account has since been の近くにd, but Three advised Daniel that it could (問題を)取り上げる to 30 days for the account to be 除去するd from his credit とじ込み/提出する.?

This means that his mortgage 使用/適用, and his house move, have been thrown into 混乱.?

Daniel said: It's still having repercussions. I am trying to port my 存在するing mortgage with my provider, and my mortgage 助言者 has had to 令状 非常に長い letters as solicitors are hounding for us to proceed with the next steps - but we can't because of this 停止する.'

But just how did the scammer manage to order a phone and take out a 契約 using bank 詳細(に述べる)s which didn't 存在する in the first place?

This is not the first time This is Money has had to step in to help 顧客s who have had a Three 動きやすい 契約 fraudulently taken out in their 指名する.

Last June, we helped a 顧客 whose credit 得点する/非難する/20 had 急落するd because a fraudster had opened a Three account using 偽の bank 詳細(に述べる)s, but the 訂正する 指名する and 演説(する)/住所.

Three 確認するd that the account had been opened fraudulently and の近くにd it 負かす/撃墜する. The 動きやすい phone provider told This is Money that: 'We will be reviewing our systems based on this [顧客's] experience to 避ける a 類似の 状況/情勢 in the 未来.'?

Since then, This is Money has heard from other 顧客s who have 類似して had a Three 動きやすい account taken out in their 指名する by scammers using 偽の bank 詳細(に述べる)s.

Iain Ogilvie, from West Oxfordshire, is one of these 顧客s. On Friday 1 March 2024, he received a 確定/確認 of a direct debit 委任統治(領) from Three. The 指名する and 演説(する)/住所 were 訂正する, but the bank account 詳細(に述べる)s were made up.

It turned out that fraudsters had ordered two 動きやすい phones in his 指名する.??

Iain said: 'It beggars belief that they don't 実証する new accounts and make sure the bank 詳細(に述べる)s are 訂正する before sending out a 動きやすい phone.

'Three's 調印する up 過程 is wholly 欠如(する)ing in 立証. I was made aware of the 詐欺 because I am still at the same 演説(する)/住所, and received the direct debit 委任統治(領) in the 地位,任命する. But I 恐れる this is happening to other people who will not be aware.

'Surely Three should spend some time 直す/買収する,八百長をするing this. Two 装置s were sent out to scammers who hadn't paid for them, and 推定では Three are at a 財政上の loss.'

によれば UK 財政/金融, banks are only 通知するd of new 契約s once 支払い(額)s or direct debits have 開始するd. It says the 支配(する)/統制するs to 妨げる this type of 詐欺 would therefore 嘘(をつく) with the companies who are 問題/発行するing the 契約s.

Martyn James, a 消費者 支持する/優勝者 said: 'The scam seems to occur with most but not all phone companies - but scammers 貿易(する) (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) on those that have the laxest 安全 手続きs.'

A spokesperson from UK 財政/金融 said: 'What's happened is that someone has input made up bank 詳細(に述べる)s and the 動きやすい phone company has 受託するd it and not checked it. The fact that the 顧客s are getting letters looking for 支払い(額) means no money is coming out of a bank account.

'The company should be cross checking the 詳細(に述べる)s and the fact that this is happening may mean there is no oversight from them when it comes to this.'

A spokesperson from Three said: '存在 a 犠牲者 of 詐欺 is a 失望させるing and scary experience. The fight against 詐欺 is 絶えず 発展させるing 予定 to the changing 策略 of 犯罪のs, so we 投資する continually in our systems to (悪事,秘密などを)発見する 脅しs and train our staff.

'Both of these accounts have now been 確認するd as 詐欺 and will be の近くにd 負かす/撃墜する 正確に. We apologise that, in these instances, 顧客 services were not up to our usual high 基準s.'

This type of 詐欺 is an example of 身元 詐欺. It happens when a scammer uses your 指名する, 演説(する)/住所 or date of birth to 効果的に create another 'you'.

An 身元 どろぼう can use a number of methods to find out your personal (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) and will then use it to open bank accounts, take out credit cards, 貸付金s or 適用する for 明言する/公表する 利益s in your 指名する.

Watch out: There are many ways fraudsters can access your information, including through forms filled out online

Martyn James said: 'The problem occurs thanks to online 使用/適用 forms. If you remember an in-per son 使用/適用 for a phone 契約, you used to need to 供給する photo ID and proof of 演説(する)/住所.?

'I don't know what 必要物/必要条件s are in place now, but it would seem that this 過程 isn't as stringent as it used to be.'?

Often, if you are 開始 an account with Three or other 動きやすい providers in 蓄える/店 you are 要求するd 供給する physical proof of 身元, but this is not the 事例/患者 for online 使用/適用s.? ?

A s pokesperson from Cifas said: 'We are seeing a 重要な rise in fraudsters stealing 詳細(に述べる)s from 装置s, laptops and phones mostly, 同様に as 提起する/ポーズをとるing as 供給者s (ますます using 偽の emails and 冷淡な-calling) to 得る personal and 財政上の (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状).'

Martyn James said: 'The main 問題/発行する is during the pandemic, the whole 過程 of ID verificaton went online, which meant ID had to be 供給するd by photographing or scanning a 文書 and uploading it.?

'If no パスポート or 運動ing licence info is 要求するd, then someone just needs a 法案 from a 貯蔵所 to steal your info. Or, if there's enough data out there for them to be able to 割れ目 one of your other accounts, they can download a 法案 or 声明 and use it for the 使用/適用.'
