I want to start renting out hats for weddings and events like horse racing - how do I start? Dave Fishwick replies

I want to start renting out hats for weddings and events like horse racing - how do I start? Dave Fishwick replies?

I'm a 選び出す/独身 mum with two children and work part-time at my 地元の supermarket.?

Over the past few years, I have been buying good 質 fascinators from charity shops and boot sales whenever I 位置/汚点/見つけ出す them.

Typically, I buy them for between £3-5, they are all in good 条件 and are bespoke labels.?

I have now amassed some 100 hats of all 形態/調整s, sizes and colours ? and my 計画(する) is to keep snapping them up whenever I 位置/汚点/見つけ出す them between now and next 復活祭.

It's for a 商売/仕事 idea I want to 始める,決める up where I rent these hats out for weddings and events, such as horse racing days. I live within 15 minutes of a major racecourse.

Fascinators are one of those items that us women often spend a small fortune on, wear once and they 結局最後にはーなる 集会 dust in the loft.

I want to rent them out 地元で ? and I think £15 is a fair price. I can 会合,会う people with the fascinators when they are going to the racecourse or one of the 地元の churches 近づく-by and collect them from a 指定するd point the next day. I'm not looking to send to them by 地位,任命する.

My idea is that if I can get 10 of these rented out each 週末 between April and October - 頂点(に達する) wedding and race season - I can make a nice 味方する-income to 補足(する) my part-time 行う.

However, I don't know how to spread the word. I'm not 特に social マスコミ savvy ? what are your tips??

If I did rent out 10 hats a 週末 for six months, would I need to 支払う/賃金 税金? Should I 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 people a deposit, in 事例/患者 of any 損失 支えるd or I don't get the fascinator 支援する? And if so, how can I 容易にする that?

Dave Fishwick, This Is Money's 商売/仕事 doctor, replies: I can see you are 熱烈な, and that is such an 必須の part of starting any 商売/仕事 - if you have passion, 運動 and 決意, you can usually find a way of making it work.

My advice is firstly, you must go fishing where the fish are! That means you need to be seen in the most cost-efficient way possible in all places that anyone would be looking for a unique hat for a special day.

It's 平易な to think that when you 雇う something, it's money for nothing for the 製品, but I have a dear friend called Franz, who has been in the 雇う 商売/仕事 for many years, and a 雇う 料金 certainly isn't for nothing.

賃貸し(する)ing and 雇うing always look good on paper, but the 兵たん業務 of 配達するing, insuring and looking after 製品s with 比較して small 利ざやs can be challenging.

Apart from the usual costs and 総計費s of running a 商売/仕事, other expenses 含む loss and 損失, きれいにする costs and general wear and 涙/ほころび to the 製品, which can't be 埋め立てるd from deposits.

You should 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 deposits because if you don't, some of your 製品s will not be returned.?

Ideally, the 雇う 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金, which you should 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 upfront with the deposit, should cover the cost of the 製品 and a reasonable 利益(をあげる) so if they don't return it, you've 効果的に sold it to them and you don't lose out.

With higher-value 製品s like 乗り物 雇う, you can't 推定する/予想する the 顧客 to 支出 this much money and card 料金s would become unrealistically high to take and refund large 量s.

This can be dealt with using pre-authorisation, which doesn't take money from the 顧客's account but would 許す you to 接近 a pre-agreed 量 if they don't fulfil their end of the 雇う 協定.

Another problem with 雇うing is that while you might think it should be (疑いを)晴らす-削減(する) that the deposit will cover any 損失, you might find that the person who 雇うd it might argue the point, 説 that something just fell off it rather than 収容する/認める that they've 損失d it.

A 雇う company needs to keep 調印するd copies of a 雇う 協定, setting out its 条件 and 条件s for the 契約 to be 合法的に 実施できる.

I advise 雇うing a hat from your biggest competitor, watching how they 配達する the 製品, taking a の近くに look at their 契約s, 政策s and 手続きs and perhaps borrowing the 協定's 言い回し.?

They will have spent かなりの money having it drawn up.

You'll have to decide if you're only going to 受託する cash or if you're going to use other 支払い(額) methods like 支払い(額) apps and card services.?

耐える in mind that these services usually 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 料金s, so I would recommend that you use cash in the 初期の 裁判,公判 行う/開催する/段階s rather than setting up accounts with 支払い(額) service prov iders すぐに.

?My advice is firstly, you must go fishing where the fish are! That means you need to be seen in the most cost-efficient way possible in all places that anyone would be looking for a unique hat for a special day.

Social マスコミ is the best way to market your idea: it will cost you more in time than money, which is 一般に より望ましい for an 早期に-行う/開催する/段階 商売/仕事, 特に one ーするつもりであるd to operate on a small 規模.

You say you're not social マスコミ savvy, but I imagine you are on at least one or two 壇・綱領・公約s.?

There are college courses to learn about social マスコミ, but you'll probably know as much by asking your kids. Also, 地位,任命する an advert in the supermarket where you work.

Some social マスコミ 壇・綱領・公約s like Instagram are image-焦点(を合わせる)d, which would 控訴 your 製品s.?

質 photographs and pictures are 決定的な to 促進するing anything. Facebook and WhatsApp are more 焦点(を合わせる)d on friend 網状組織s.

I also advise you to 接触する your 地元の race course, perhaps 始める,決める up a small 立ち往生させる on event days, and link up with race course Facebook groups. 接触する 地元の wedding planners and …に出席する wedding fairs. All should be helpful to 促進する your 商売/仕事.

Whether the income is taxable would depend on the part-time income from your 職業 in the supermarket. If the total income from the supermarket and 利益(をあげる) from hat 賃貸しのs is more than the Personal Allowance (現在/一般に £12,570), the 量 above the Personal Allowance is taxable.

You are 許すd to deduct the higher of the 関連した actual expenses and £1,000 to 決定する the 利益(をあげる) on hat 賃貸しのs.

For example, if you rent out ten hats for £15 for six months, the income from rent would be £3,900.?

If the expenses relating to the rents were only £750, you could deduct the higher 人物/姿/数字 of £1,000 to get a 利益(をあげる) on the 賃貸しのs of £2,900.?

This would be the 人物/姿/数字 you would 追加する to your supermarket 行う to 決定する your total income. You would be 要求するd to 完全にする a personal 税金 Return if the total income is over the Personal Allowance.

Another thought is that perhaps you could start 支店ing out into renting out men's hats and use all the same marketing to advertise both at no extra cost.

You could 供給(する) male and 女性(の) hats to a couple, 収入 二塁打 the money without 付加 costs.?

Recently, I 設立する it very difficult to rent a 質 伝統的な City 銀行業者's bowler hat to wear at the Bank of Dave Netflix film 首相, and I needed to buy one just for the event.?

You could see if it's more profitable to sell some hats rather than just 雇うing them out. Perhaps try it as an 実験.

You have already bought many hats from the car boot sales, So I say give it a try, but don't take on too many 総計費s or costs 最初 if you can help it and, most importantly once again, my most 価値のある piece of advice is: Go fishing where the fish are!?Good luck.
