The 必須の guide to Isas: What you need to know about 税金-解放する/自由な saving and 投資するing

With higher 利益/興味 率s pulling more into the 貯金 税金 逮捕する and a 税金 (警察の)手入れ,急襲 on both 資本/首都 伸び(る)s and (株主への)配当s, using an Isa has become even more important.

An Isa - or an Individual 貯金 Account to give it the 十分な 公式の/役人 指名する - is a wrapper that 保護するs your 貯金 or 投資s from 税金 on 利益/興味, 利益(をあげる)s and (株主への)配当s.

Every year, savers get a £20,000 allowance that can be used to 支払う/賃金 new money into an Isa. The most popular types are a cash Isa or 在庫/株s and 株 Isa. They are also Innovative 財政/金融, Lifetime and Junior Isas 利用できる.

In our 必須の guide to Isas, we explain everything you need to know: from the difference between a cash Isa and a 在庫/株s an 株 Isa, to the 利益s of 投資するing or saving in an Isa, and the 支配するs that you need to stick to.

An Isa lets you shield your savings and investments in a tax-free wrapper

An Isa lets you 保護物,者 your 貯金 and 投資s in a 税金-解放する/自由な wrapper

What is an Isa?

An Isa is a 税金-efficient way of saving or 投資するing money. It is 述べるd as a wrapper around your 貯金 and 投資s that means all 利益/興味, 利益(をあげる)s and (株主への)配当s can be earned 解放する/自由な of 税金.

There are different types of Isa to help you save or 投資する depending on your goals.

The two main types are cash Isas (for saving) and 在庫/株s and 株 Isas?(for 投資するing).?

There are also Lifetime Isas (for a first home deposit or 退職) and Innovative 財政/金融 Isas (for peer to peer 投資s) and Junior Isas?(for those under 16).

Each year, UK 居住(者)s get a £20,000 Isa allowance that they can 支払う/賃金 into accounts. The Lifetime Isa and Junior Isa have different 限界s. In the 現在の 税金 year, people can only 支払う/賃金 new money into one type of each Isa but from the new 税金 year on 6 April 2024, they can 支払う/賃金 into 多重の types of the same Isa.

Why should you save in a cash isa??

Anyone who is a 居住(者) in the UK and 老年の 16 or over can save into a Cash Isa. Outside of a cash Isa, any 利益/興味 earned is 支配する to 税金 above a 確かな level, known as the personal 貯金 allowance.

The personal 貯金 allowance means?basic 率 taxpayers can earn £1,000 of 利益/興味 税金-解放する/自由な.?

But higher 率 taxpayers at the 40 per cent 率 only get a £500 年次の personal 貯金 allowance.

一方/合間, 付加 率 taxpayers (those 支払う/賃金ing 45 per cent 税金) get no allowance at all.

When 利益/興味 率s were on the 床に打ち倒す, the personal 貯金 allowance 保護するd many basic 率 taxpayers and some higher 率 taxpayers from 税金 on their 利益/興味.

But the 早い rise in 利益/興味 率s over the past year has pulled up 貯金 率s and this means that more are now 存在 dragged into the 貯金 税金 逮捕する.?

When 最高の,を越す 平易な 接近 取引,協定s paid about 1 per cent, a basic 率 saver needed £100,000 or more in 貯金 to 違反 the personal 貯金 allowance and a higher 率 saver needed £50,000

Now with 最高の,を越す 平易な 接近 率s about 5 per cent, those 人物/姿/数字s are about £20,000 and £10,000.?

This is why a cash Isa has become more 必須の for many.

Why should you 投資する in an Isa?

There are plenty of 推論する/理由s why you should consider 投資するing in a 在庫/株s and 株 Isa, but the 長,指導者 one is to 保護する against 税金 eating into your returns.

It has become even more important to 持つ/拘留する your 投資s in a 税金-解放する/自由な wrapper, as a 税金 (警察の)手入れ,急襲 by (ドイツなどの)首相/(大学の)学長 Jeremy 追跡(する) saw 税金-解放する/自由な allowances for both (株主への)配当s and 資本/首都 伸び(る)s 削除するd last April.?

The 年次の 資本/首都 伸び(る)s 税金-解放する/自由な allowance was 削減(する) from £12,300 to £6,000 from 6 April, and will 落ちる? again to £3,000 from the start of the 2024 税金 year.???

A higher 率 taxpayer making £15,000 of 資本/首都 伸び(る)s in a year would 支払う/賃金 税金 on £9,000 of their 利益(をあげる)s, meaning a 税金 法案 of £1,800.

From next year, they will have to 支払う/賃金 税金 on £12,000 of their 利益(をあげる)s, meaning a 税金 法案 of £2,400.?

類似して, the (株主への)配当 税金-解放する/自由な allowance was 削減(する) from £2,000 to £1,000 in April, and then to £500 from 2024.

A higher 率 taxpayer 投資家 getting £2,000 of (株主への)配当s each year would 現在/一般に 支払う/賃金 no 税金 on their income from 投資s.

From 6 April, a higher 率 taxpayer 投資家 getting £2,000 of (株主への)配当s would 直面する 税金 on the £1,000 of their (株主への)配当s above the new £1,000 税金-解放する/自由な allowance and lose £337.50 to 税金.

(株主への)配当s are an important way for some 投資家s to receive income in the 現在の inflationary 環境 and are proven to be a long-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 driver of 株式市場 total returns, so 保護するing them in an Isa will help.

As an 追加するd 特別手当, you also don't need to 宣言する 資本/首都 伸び(る)s or (株主への)配当s from within an Isa in a self 査定/評価 税金 form, so it saves on paperwork and admin too.?

Isas vs 会計の drag?

In last year's Autumn 声明, (ドイツなどの)首相/(大学の)学長 Jeremy 追跡(する) froze the higher 率 税金 threshold at £50,270.

This creates something called 会計の drag, as more people are pulled into a higher 税金 禁止(する)d as their 収入s rise.?

It means a 記録,記録的な/記録する number of people will find some of their 収入s 落ちる within the higher 40 per cent 所得税.

For savers, it means more will have their personal 貯金 allowance 減ずるd to £500.?

For 投資家s, it means they will be 押し進めるd into a higher (株主への)配当 税金 brand, moving from 支払う/賃金ing 8.75 per cent to 33.75 per cent.

The 付加 率 税金 threshold is also 存在 lowered from £150,000 to £125,140, which will mean more (株主への)配当 税金 for these 投資家s as they are 押し進めるd into the 最高の,を越す 39.35 per cent 禁止(する)d.

They will also lose their personal 貯金 allowance once they 違反 the 限界.?

Using a 在庫/株s and 株 Isa or cash Isa can help 投資家s 保護する their (株主への)配当s and savers their 利益/興味 from any extra 税金 予定 to 会計の drag or the lowering of the 付加 率 threshold.

How do I open an Isa??

There are a lot of Isas out there, even if you just 焦点(を合わせる) on the two main types of cash Isas an 在庫/株s and 株 Isas.

For cash Isas, it is important to compare 率s across the whole market and not just go to your bank and building society, as they may not have the most 競争の激しい 取引,協定.

At This Is Money we 定期的に update our 一連の会議、交渉/完成する-up Five of the best cash Isas, and you can also look through our 独立した・無所属 best cash Isa 貯金 (米)棚上げする/(英)提議するs ?to see the 最高の,を越す 取引,協定s 現在/一般に on 申し込む/申し出.?

Can I have more than one Isa and how much can I put in every year??

Every 税金 year you can put up to £20,000 of new money into all Isa 貯金 or 投資. You can choose how to 分裂(する) this between each type.?

You can only 与える/捧げる a 最大限 of £4,000 per year to a Lifetime Isa.

So, for example, you can put £10,000 into a 在庫/株s and 株 Isa, £6,000 into a cash Isa and £4,000 into a Lifetime Isa.

Or you could 支払う/賃金 £10,000 into a cash Isa and £10,000 into a 在庫/株s and 株 Isa, or put the whole lot into one.

While you can have more than one 在庫/株s and 株 Isa or cash Isa, you can only 与える/捧げる new money to one of each type in a 税金 year. This is 予定 to change from the start of the 2024 税金 year, when people can open 多重の types of the same Isa and 支払う/賃金 money in during the same 税金 year.

In practice, many people open new cash Isas each year, but tend to stick with the same DIY 投資するing 壇・綱領・公約 for their 在庫/株s and 株 Isa and 簡単に 追加する money to that and 選ぶ their 投資s.

But you could open a different 在庫/株s and 株 Isa, perhaps as you now 手配中の,お尋ね者 one that chose 投資s for you.

For those who want to save on 投資する に向かって their child's 未来 there is also the Junior Isa. There is a separate £9,000 年次の allowance for this, which is the child's and so not 含むd as part of an adult's £20,000 adult allowance.

When it comes to Isa allowances, it’s a 事例/患者 of use it or lose it. Once the end of the 税金 year comes around, you cannot carry over any remaining allowance.

> Can I 投資する in a new Isa to buy and sell 株 and keep buying 基金s with my 存在するing account??

Can I 移転 my Isa?

If you want to move your money to another provider, you’ll need to 移転 your Isa to 確実にする you keep the 税金-解放する/自由な 利益s.

Unless you have a special 柔軟な Isa, if you 身を引く and reinvest the money, you will be using up some or all of your 年次の allowance.

Transferring your Isa doesn’t count as 開始 a new one, which means you can 移転 your 在庫/株s and 株 Isa to a new provider and still have the 選択 of 開始 another Isa later that year.

Similary, a cash Isa can be transferred to a new 取引,協定 支払う/賃金ing a better 率 at any time.?

This 作品 the same across all Isa types, so you can 移転 a cash Isa to a 在庫/株s and 株 Isa and still open another 在庫/株s and 株 Isa later that year.

For example, if you’ve used £10,000 of the 年次の allowance before transferring, you’ll still have £10,000 left to put in a new Isa.?

But if you’re transferring a £30,000 Isa that you 港/避難所’t 与える/捧げるd to this 税金 year, you’ll still have a £20,000 Isa allowance to use in a new Isa.

Usually, there are no 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金s for transferring your Isa, but check with your provider as some can 背負い込む 刑罰,罰則s, like 直す/買収する,八百長をするd-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 cash Isas.

Transferring your Isa can make it easier to manage your money, given you’re able to 移転 more than one Isa. You can 強固にする/合併する/制圧する your Isa by moving your Isas into one of your 存在するing accounts, or 移転 them into a new Isa.

You don’t always have to 移転 the whole Isa, it depends on whether it’s made up of 出資/貢献s from the 現在の 税金 year or built up over more than one 税金 year.

If you’re moving an Isa that you opened and 追加するd to in the 現在の 税金 year, then you will have to 移転 it all. If you’re moving an Isa you’ve 与える/捧げるd into for more than a year, you can 移転 part of it or the whole thing.

You cannot 移転 an Isa from one person to another.

If you 港/避難所’t used up your Isa allowance you can sell some of your 株, or 基金s, and then rebuy the same ones within an Isa before the end of the 税金 year.

That money can either be used に向かって a deposit on a first home or be 孤立した from the age of 60 to help 基金 退職.

However, there are two 決定的な 支配するs to be aware of.

First, whether buying 個々に or as a couple the value of the 所有物/資産/財産 must not 越える £450,000.

You may also 結局最後にはーなる worse off if you decide to cash in the Isa before 60 without buying a first home. This is because a 25 per cent 刑罰,罰則 適用するs to the 量 孤立した in this 事例/患者.

Junior Isas are available to anyone under the age of 18 and you can put away up to £9,000 a year

Junior Isas are 利用できる to anyone under the age of 18 and you can put away up to £9,000 a year?

Junior Isa

Junior Isas are for those 老年の under 18 who live in the UK and want to save an 投資する 税金-解放する/自由な. They are usually opened by parents, but grandparents and others can 支払う/賃金 in too, and 出資/貢献s are 限られた/立憲的な to £9,000 each 税金 year.

Just like an adult Isa, when saving into a cash Junior Isa all 利益/興味 earned will be 保護物,者d from 税金, while those a 在庫/株s and 株 Junior Isa will 保護物,者ing any (株主への)配当s or 資本/首都 伸び(る)s from the taxman.

The £9,000 Jisa allowance is separate from an adult's personal Isa allowance meaning those who 支払う/賃金 into a child's Junior Isa won't be using up their own 税金-解放する/自由な allowance.

However, for all its 肯定的なs, parents and others need to be aware before saving or 投資するing in a junior Isa that once the child turns 18, it becomes their money to do what they like with.

For those 選ぶing to save into a Jisa, the returns on 申し込む/申し出 are 現実に much better than adult cash Isa 選択s. Check the best cash junior Isa 率s in our (米)棚上げする/(英)提議するs.

There are より小数の Jisa 在庫/株s & 株 providers than for adult Isas. However, there is still plenty of choice.

Innovative 財政/金融 Isas

IFISAs let you use your 税金-解放する/自由な Isa allowance to 投資する in peer-to-peer lending. These are typically 貸付金s that you give to other people or 商売/仕事s without using a bank as a middleman, in return for 利益/興味.

However, anyone considering going 負かす/撃墜する this 大勝する, should approach with 警告を与える and they are 比較して niche.

Last year, the world's oldest P2P 貸す人, Zopa Bank の近くにd 負かす/撃墜する its P2P 商売/仕事 returning all 投資s to its 投資家s.

基金ing Circle, the UK's biggest P2P 貸す人 also took the 決定/判定勝ち(する) to 永久的に の近くに its 小売 壇・綱領・公約 for new 投資s.

There can also be 複雑化s surrounding liquidity were you needing to have the entirety of your 投資 returned.

IFISAs come in all 形態/調整s and sizes, lending money for individuals, small 商売/仕事s, 所有物/資産/財産 開発s, historical refurbishments, or renewable energy 事業/計画(する)s.

Some argue that this 申し込む/申し出s a good middle ground between cash and 投資するing, with higher returns than cash and いっそう少なく volatility than 在庫/株s and 株.

However, a 重要な 問題/発行する is that money 投資するd 経由で an IFISA will not be 適格の for FSCS 保護 up to £85,000 per individual unlike in a FSCS 保護するd 貯金 account.

If the company the P2P 壇・綱領・公約 has lent your Isa cash to defaults on its 貸付金s you're ありそうもない to get your money 支援する. Therefore, if you decide to go 負かす/撃墜する this 大勝する it's 必須の to do your 予定 diligence, spread your money around different 投資s and recognise you may be taking on higher 危険s than with 伝統的な 在庫/株s and 株.
