How would YOU 直す/買収する,八百長をする the 住宅 market? We ask 世代 Rent's?Ben Twomey

  • House prices are unaffordable for many and rents are up 32% in three years
  • Number of people living in 一時的な accommodation is up by 74% in a 10年間
  • Each week we ask an 専門家 to explain the 危機 and 申し込む/申し出 their 解答s?

Whether it's unaffordable house prices, higher mortgage 率s, 急に上がるing rents?or 増加するd levels of homelessness, the 住宅 market appears to be stuck in a never-ending 危機.

There remains an insatiable appetite to buy 所有物/資産/財産. Many of those who don't own aspire to, and 注ぐ their life 貯金 に向かって 達成するing it.

It is a dream that continues to move その上の out of reach for many, as the chronic under-供給(する) of 所有物/資産/財産s means house prices rise?and rents 増加する.???

As for those who already own, they tend to want more. Whether that means buying a bigger and better home, 購入(する)ing a holiday home or 投資するing in buy-to-lets, the British obsession with acquiring 所有物/資産/財産 doesn't stop at the first one.

Owning 所有物/資産/財産 has become synonymous with both wealth 創造 and wealth 保護 and as the money keeps piling in, the prices keep going up.

政府 介入s often appear to 追加する 燃料 to the 解雇する/砲火/射撃.?Stamp 義務 holidays, Help to Buy, 権利 to Buy and other 計画/陰謀s were meant to help more people on to the ladder.?

But while many of those 率先s were successful, they also had the 影響 of 押し進めるing up house pr ices その上の for those that (機の)カム after.?

Worst of all, homelessness is rising. More than 300,000 people are 記録,記録的な/記録するd as homeless in England, によれば 研究 by the charity 避難所, with many in 一時的な accommodation.?

Does Britain have a 住宅 危機??

Ben Twomey replies: Britain's 住宅 危機 takes many forms. It 範囲s from people on ordinary incomes 存在 unable to buy a home, to people sleeping rough and families living in squalid, overcrowded 一時的な accommodation, or 存在 軍隊d to move far away from their work and communities.

The worst part, without a 疑問, is the fact that we have thousands of children without a 安全な, long-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 home, 近づく to their school, whose families struggle to buy the 必須のs because rents are so expensive.?

最終的に, millions of us are 存在 否定するd the 住宅 状況/情勢s we were led to believe were the result of doing the 権利 thing, and it is becoming more 政治上 untenable.

How does this compare to the past?

Britain has had a 住宅 危機 for nearly 20 years, with home 所有権 levels starting to 落ちる 井戸/弁護士席 before the credit crunch.?

Throughout that time, 増加するing numbers of people have been getting stuck in 私的な renting without the chance of finding an affordable, long-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 home.

The 中央の-2010s saw 速く rising rents, and 増加するd e victions and homelessness 事例/患者s, but concentrated in London.?

Since the pandemic we've had the same, but in much more of the country. There is ますます no escape from the 住宅 危機.

What is the biggest 原因(となる) of the 住宅 危機?

Housing crisis cause: Twomey says Section 21 'no-fault' evictions have encouraged more people to become landlords, trapping increasing numbers of people in private rented homes

住宅 危機 原因(となる): Twomey says Section 21 'no-fault' evictions have encouraged more people to become landlords, trapping 増加するing numbers of people in 私的な rented homes

There are three main 原因(となる)s of the 住宅 危機.

Not building enough homes< /a>, which meant that people are spending more of their incomes on rent and are unable to save a deposit to buy.

Selling off 会議 住宅 and not 取って代わるing it, which has 罠にかける lower income families in the 私的な rented 部門 that doesn't 扱う/治療する them 井戸/弁護士席.

And finally, Section 21 'no-fault' evictions, which encouraged more people to become landlords, trapping more of us in 私的な rented homes, while 土台を崩すing the 質 of those homes by making it 平易な to kick out tenants who need problems to be 直す/買収する,八百長をするd.?

The 初期の wave of 投資 in buy-to-let also fuelled a culture where society believed that rising house prices were a good thing, which then led 政府s to keep propping up prices even though it made things harder for first time 買い手s.

I'm a 45-year-old professional who rents and has no 年金 - should I worry??

I am a practitioner psychologist working for the NHS and 個人として. I am not 与える/捧げるing into my 年金 as I am 投資するing my 収入s in professional 開発 for my career.

I am now 45. I live in a rented flat and have now started to get a bit worried about my 未来.

What will happen when I get to 退職??Former 年金s 大臣 Steve Webb replies.

How would you 直す/買収する,八百長をする the 危機?

We need a better 始める,決める of 権利s and 規則s for the 私的な rented 部門, so that tenants can 扱う/治療する their homes as somewhere they can live long 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語, and have the 道具s to take 活動/戦闘 if their home is in disrepair.?

This is 存在 演説(する)/住所d in the Renters (改革(する)) 法案, though we need much better 保護s than what the 政府 is 申し込む/申し出ing to give renters the certainty they need.

We also need to make renting more affordable.?

We can do this through the 利益s system, with 地元の 住宅 Allowance that 反映するs actual rents, and by building social homes for renters who cannot compete in the market 含むing families, retirees and renters with disabilities.?

We need to build homes of all 任期s to 会合,会う 需要・要求する in areas where people want to live, 特に flats and homes の近くに to public 輸送(する) so that it is environmentally 維持できる.?

Building enough homes will take a long time, so we should think about what we can do with 存在するing homes.?

The 税金 system 現在/一般に encourages people to live in much larger homes than they really need.?We should think about how we can encourage downsizing so that retired couples can 効果的に 交換(する) their four-bedroom homes with growing families 現在/一般に cramped in 2-beds.

Will the 住宅 危機 ever be 直す/買収する,八百長をするd?

権利 now, the 住宅 危機 is as bad as it has ever been, but the 返答 by renters and our suppo rters is as strong as ever.?

We have a Renters' 改革(する) 連合 押し進めるing the 政府 to 配達する on its かかわり合い to 廃止する Section 21, and 増加するing numbers of 影響力のある people, 含むing in politics, recognising the need to build more homes.?

The 政府 is under 抱擁する scrutiny for its 決定/判定勝ち(する)s on 住宅.

Build where the demand is: Twomey says homes of all tenures should be built to meet demand in areas where people want to live

Build where the 需要・要求する is: Twomey says homes of all 任期s should be built to 会合,会う 需要・要求する in areas where people want to live

A 解答 feels like a long way off, but a new 合意 is 現れるing. Renters could be the envy of homeowners, but that will only begin to happen if we are 安全な・保証する in our homes, able to afford our rent, and 保護するd from poor 条件s.?

The 柔軟性 and 権利s that come with 存在 a renter then need to be 価値(がある) the 重要な 部分 of our income that goes straight into our landlords' pockets.?

The 住宅 危機 cannot continue to punish renters. 世代 Rent believes the 現在の 状況/情勢 can, must, and will change.
