Got more than ¡ò20,000 saved up? Here are the ºÇ¹â¤Î¡¤¤ò±Û¤¹ accounts to open ¸¢Íø now

Good news for those who long to use cash Isas for a nest egg ¡½ Ψs are finally rising and the gap between ordinary accounts and cash Isas has ¶¹¤¯¤¹¤ëd so much there is not much between them.

This makes cash Isas a must for every saver as you can Êݸ¤ë your Íø±×¡¿¶½Ì£ from the taxman.

Last week ¶¥Áè heated up with Aldermore bank ÌÀ¤«¤¹ing a one-year ľ¤¹¡¿Çã¼ý¤¹¤ë¡¤È¬É´Ä¹¤ò¤¹¤ëd-Ψ cash Isa at 5 per cent. And Shawbrook raised its Ψ to 5.01 per cent yesterday, quickly followed by OakNorth at 5.02 per cent.

Ê¿°×¤Ê-Àܶá Ψs also look brighter with new providers coming in ¿½¤·¹þ¤à¡¿¿½¤·½Ðing Ψs above 5 per cent.

Tax shelter: Cash Isa rates are finally rising and the gap between them and ordinary accounts has narrowed so much that there is hardly a whisker between them

ÀǶâ ÈòÆñ½ê: Cash Isa Ψs are finally rising and the gap between them and ordinary accounts has ¶¹¤¯¤¹¤ëd so much that there is hardly a whisker between them

The Ψs paid on these accounts no longer lag so far behind taxable accounts that they are not ²ÁÃ͡ʤ¬¤¢¤ë¡Ë bothering with.?

Now, there are more than four million accounts where savers are at ´í¸± of »Ùʧ¤¦¡¿Ä¶âing ÀǶâ on Íø±×¡¿¶½Ì£, up by nearly a million over six months ͽÄê to higher Íø±×¡¿¶½Ì£ Ψs.

Now, basic-Ψ taxpayers are ÇË»º¤·¤¿¡¿¡Ê·Ù»¡¤¬¡Ë¼êÆþ¤ì¤¹¤ëing the personal Ãù¶â allowance of ¡ò1,000 in Íø±×¡¿¶½Ì£ on ordinary accounts without »Ùʧ¤¦¡¿Ä¶âing ÀǶâ. For higher-Ψ payers, it's ¡ò500.

With Ψs at 5 per cent, you'll »Ùʧ¤¦¡¿Ä¶â ÀǶâ if you have over ¡ò20,000 in ordinary accounts as a basic-Ψ taxpayer, or ¡ò10,000 for higher-Ψ payers. Your 5 per cent is only ²ÁÃ͡ʤ¬¤¢¤ë¡Ë 4 per cent if one of the first, 3 per cent if one of the latter.

The message is ¡Êµ¿¤¤¤ò¡ËÀ²¤é¤¹ ¡½ use your ¡ò20,000 Isa allowance before April 5 so that your Íø±×¡¿¶½Ì£ is ÀǶ⠲òÊü¤¹¤ë¡¿¼«Í³¤Ê.

So where to start? First, don't go to your ¸½ºß¤Î-account provider ¡ ½ its Ψs will be lousy.

Just look at them: Barclays 1.66 per cent, NatWest 1.75 per cent, Halifax 1.45 per cent, Santander 1.7 per cent, Lloyds 1.4 per cent on its Ê¿°×¤Ê-Àܶá cash Isas. HSBC »Ùʧ¤¦¡¿Ä¶âs 3.2 per cent but only with the ¸¢Íø ·Ð¾ï¼ý»Ù and if you Äɲ乤ë to your Isa each year.

The only exception is Virgin Money which »Ùʧ¤¦¡¿Ä¶âs 4.76 per cent and an unbeatable 5.25 per cent ľ¤¹¡¿Çã¼ý¤¹¤ë¡¤È¬É´Ä¹¤ò¤¹¤ëd Ψ if you tie your money up for a year.

The big banks do higher Ψs, but you'll have to move your cash in a year.

Halifax »Ùʧ¤¦¡¿Ä¶âs 4.1 per cent on its Isa ÆÃÊ̼êÅö Saver if you make under four űÂàs. But after a year your money is moved into its Instant Isa Saver, »Ùʧ¤¦¡¿Ä¶âing 1.45 per cent.

Other banks and building societies »Ùʧ¤¦¡¿Ä¶â far more. ¤ÎÃæ¤Ç the best are Zopa (5.08 per cent), Marsden Building Society (5.05 per cent) and ¼Ú¤êÀڤ롿·û¾Ï Ãù¶â Bank (5.03 per cent).

On one-year ľ¤¹¡¿Çã¼ý¤¹¤ë¡¤È¬É´Ä¹¤ò¤¹¤ëd-Ψ accounts OakNorth's 5.02 per cent is ºÇ¹â¤Î¡¤¤ò±Û¤¹ with a ºÇ¾®¸Â ¡ò1 ¡½ or you can take Íø±×¡¿¶½Ì£ ·îËè¤Î at 4.91 per cent.

Ψs on two-year ľ¤¹¡¿Çã¼ý¤¹¤ë¡¤È¬É´Ä¹¤ò¤¹¤ëd Ψs are lower as the general level of Íø±×¡¿¶½Ì£ Ψs is »Ï¤á¤ë¡¤·è¤á¤ë to Íî¤Á¤ë. If Ψs do Íî¤Á¤ë, you may ¾¡Íø¡¤¾¡¤Ä out by Áª¤Öing a longer-¾Î¤¹¤ë¡¤¸Æ¤Ö¡¿´ü´Ö¡¿ÍѸì À½ÉÊ, such as at Zopa (4.67 per cent), Hodge Bank (4.62 per cent) and Furness BS (4.6 per cent).
