'惑星 Saver' eco-貯金 account lets you fight 気候 change - if you are happy to sacrifice 1% of your 利益/興味

  • Ekko co-創立者 Oli Cook hopes the account can 軍隊 change in banking
  • Savers can 現在/一般に 与える/捧げる to four 環境の 原因(となる)s 選ぶd by Ekko

A new eco-貯金 account has 開始する,打ち上げるd that lets savers squirrel money away and 基金 good 原因(となる)s - but only if they are happy to sacrifice some of their 利益/興味 率.

The 惑星 Saver is a 直す/買収する,八百長をするd-率 社債 from green debit card and 貯金 会社/堅い Ekko.

It 申し込む/申し出s two 率s, 3.4 per cent for a one-year 社債 and 3.03 per cent for a three-month 選択.

By comparison, the best one-year 社債 支払う/賃金s 5.15 per cent, from Raisin or Zenith Bank, while the 最高の,を越す three-month 社債 申し込む/申し出s 5.09 per cent, from?首長国s NBD.?

But the 新たな展開 with the Ekko 惑星 Saver is that its 社債s 現実に 支払う/賃金 1 per cent more than advertised, but that money is 寄付するd to environmentally-friendly 原因(となる)s.?

Cook, the co-創立者 of 炭素-offsetting debit card 壇・綱領・公約 Ekko, is 熱烈な about?making a real difference to the 環境.

‘The 適切な時期 to help the 消費者s who are using 財政上の 製品s to make a big 衝撃 [on the 惑星] is there,' Oli Cook says, 'and the 産業 has the chance to do this.’

Planet saver: Oli Cook says he is passionate about saving the planet, but admits that if you want the
highest savings rate then this account isn't the best one for you

惑星 saver: Oli Cook says he is 熱烈な about saving the 惑星, but 収容する/認めるs that if you want the highest 貯金 率 then this account isn't the best one for you

The company’s new 製品, which is has 開始する,打ち上げるd と一緒に cash-管理/経営 壇・綱領・公約 Akoni 中心 and the Bank of London and The Middle East, 捜し出すs to do just that.

‘We need to make it possible for people to be able to do good things with this money, and see 衝撃 and 利益,’ he says.

The 惑星 Saver account, which was 開始する,打ち上げるd in February, sees 顧客s receive their deposit and 利益(をあげる) at the 成熟 of their account, minus the 利益/興味 that they have foregone in favour of these 事業/計画(する)s.

現在/一般に, 出資/貢献s go to animal 自然保護 事業/計画(する)s run by Tusk, 妨げるing Ocean Plastic’s 再生利用するing 事業/計画(する)s, 自然保護 International’s 森林伐採 programmes and 炭素 補償(金) 事業/計画(する)s run by Gold 基準.

The four 事業/計画(する)s, for now at least, are 直す/買収する,八百長をするd. In 未来, Cook says there are 計画(する)s to 許す the account 使用者s to have a say in the 事業/計画(する)s that are selected or to 増加する the number of 利用できる 事業/計画(する)s so that 使用者s can choose to 与える/捧げる to those that they care most about.

In the 合間, however, ‘it’s 直す/買収する,八百長をするd to the four so that people can still do something special with their money,’ he says.

‘We can make a bigger 衝撃 through these four 事業/計画(する)s just to start off with.’

Through the 貯金 account, Cook says, 使用者s can 与える/捧げる to 環境の 原因(となる)s without them having to 活発に 寄付する money out of their 貯金 to do so.

He told This is Money: ‘It’s also a passive choice, which isn’t 活発に coming out of your pocket - it’s coming out 分かれて as an 利益/興味 deferral.

Conservation: One of the four causes selected, Tusk, focuses on animal conservation

自然保護: One of the four 原因(となる)s selected, Tusk, 焦点(を合わせる)s on animal 自然保護

‘This is not about you losing money, this is ab out using the 利益/興味 to do good things.’

As a result of this, Cook 譲歩するs that the 惑星 Saver is ふさわしい to an 環境 where 利益/興味 率s are at a medium to high level.

‘You're already getting a very good return and you can use a 割合 of it to do good and support 環境の 事業/計画(する)s,' he said. 'That doesn’t work if we go 支援する about five or six years when everyone was on 無 パーセント 貯金 率s.'

I want more people to do this. We 存在する to make the world a better place, and I don’t really care who does it?

With the 利益 of 利益/興味 率s continuing to rise, people have more freedom to コースを変える some of their cash に向かって 原因(となる)s that they are 熱烈な about.?

This comes 手渡す in 手渡す with ever-growing 関心s over 気候 change and a growing 傾向 に向かって environmentally conscious 決定/判定勝ち(する) making.

‘I think 感情 has 転換d, and 認識/意識性 of sustainability has grown,’ Cook says.

‘People are wanting to do good things and are willing to make choices that are good for the world, and this is fundamentally changing across all 部門s.’

Of course, the 率 申し込む/申し出d by the 惑星 Saver, with its built-in one per cent 出資/貢献 to 環境の 事業/計画(する)s, is ありそうもない to match the best 率s 申し込む/申し出d by competing banks.

That said, at 3.4 per cent for the 1 year account and 3.03 per cent for the three month 選択, both not inclu ding the 1 per cent 出資/貢献, the 惑星 Saver is still a 競争の激しい 選択.

Regardless, the 重要な is to 攻撃する,衝突する a middle ground, Cook says.

‘We 焦点(を合わせる) on the balance between a good 率 and doing good. If someone wants the highest possible 率, this may not be the 権利 製品 for them, and that’s 絶対 罰金.

‘Some prefer to go for the highest possible 率s, because that’s what they need in their lives… but for those willing to do some good with their 貯金, this is a 広大な/多数の/重要な 選択.’

A market agitator?

によれば Cook, though, growing the 商売/仕事 is not his only 動機づけ. The 目的(とする), he says, is for 産業 change rather than 抱擁する 利益(をあげる).

He said: ‘I want more people to do this. We 存在する to make the world a better place, and I don’t really care who does it.’

Adding up: Cook hopes to bring millions of customers onto the Planet Saver and force change

追加するing up: Cook hopes to bring millions of 顧客s の上に the 惑星 Saver and 軍隊 change

An ideal world, he says, would see big banks wading into the area that Ekko is 現在/一般に in.

‘We’re trying to 押し進める the 産業 to do more,’ Cook 追加するs, ‘the whole 産業 has to up their game, and we’re here to help them do that.’

The UK 貯金 market is 価値(がある) a whopping £1.5trillion, meaning that a 大規模な £15billion would be raised if every bank followed a 類似の system to the 惑星 Saver.

Not a 現実主義の 期待 perhaps, but にもかかわらず Ekko is looking to enter the market as an agitator.

12 months 負かす/撃墜する the line, we hope to start seeing 重要な numbers flowing into our 事業/計画(する)s?

‘We need to make it possible for people to be able to do good things with this money, and see 衝撃 and 利益… 財政上の services have an incredible 役割 to play in helping people make better choices and have a 肯定的な 衝撃,’ he says.

‘I often think about the likes of Monzo and Starling Bank, who (機の)カム out with phenomenal 数字表示式の 製品s that changed the game when it comes to 数字表示式の experiences and the way people manage their money, and this 軍隊d more 財政上の 会・原則s to up their game ーするために compete for 顧客s.’

Cook, who 以前 held 役割s at HSBC and Metro Bank, says he 想像するs the same for Ekko.

‘We just need to 押し進める the 産業 to get there and do it faster,’ Cook says, ‘At the moment people are moving too slow. We need to move faster and we need to make this thing happen now.’

Calling for an end to greenwashing?

The 現在の problem for big banks, he says, is the size of the かかわり合いs that they make and their ability to 現実に 配達する on what they are 約束ing.?

From the point of 見解(をとる) of a 消費者, large 会・原則s have an opaqueness that makes it difficult for them to 論証する whether they are 現実に making a difference.

‘Lots of 消費者s inherently don’t 信用 banks, because they can’t see what happens with their money,’ Cook says. ‘That’s where we 落ちる into greenwashing, because 消費者s can’t understand it.’

With 惑星 Saver, however, Ekko says it is trying to be as transparent as possible about where 使用者s’ money is 現実に going.

‘You can see the exact 量 flowing to those 事業/計画(する)s and what those 事業/計画(する)s do. I think that's what people are looking for, to see 正確に/まさに what has gone where and who's it gone to so I can check whether they're good, reputable, or 提携させるd to my values,’ Cook says.

にもかかわらず its professed 焦点(を合わせる) on 存在 a mover and shaker in the 財政上の services 産業, this doesn’t mean that Ekko doesn’t have big 計画(する)s for the 惑星 Saver in the 未来.

On the contrary, Cook says 惑星 Saver has received 利益/興味 from both 消費者s and small 商売/仕事s that are hoping to put their 貯金 to good use.

‘Twelve months 負かす/撃墜する the line, we hope to start seeing 重要な numbe rs flowing into our 事業/計画(する)s.’

By ‘重要な’, Cook means millions. He 追加するs: ‘Over the next 12-18 months, we’re looking to move millions into our 事業/計画(する)s through 惑星 Saver alone.’

But Ekko doesn’t ーするつもりである to stop at the 惑星 Saver. The company has 計画(する)s to begin 申し込む/申し出ing other types of 貯金 accounts and to 拡大する beyond the UK.

‘The UK can lead in this space,’ Cook says, ‘but it's a 全世界の 適切な時期. As far as we know in the world, there isn’t a 類似の 製品.

‘When considering it globally, the 適切な時期s are 抱擁する.'
