How 中国 could paralyse Britain and kill thousands by 切り開く/タクシー/不正アクセスing into your electric car - locking you inside and creating deadly traffic jams. As cheap Chinese EVs flood Britain, EDWARD LUCAS raises a terrifying 可能性

It's a bitingly 冷淡な day in 中央の-December 2027. 中国 is 封鎖ing Taiwan and Britain is 均衡を保った to join the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs in 決起大会/結集させるing to the beleaguered island 僕主主義's defence - a move that could presage World War III.

And then comes a 残酷に blunt message: every one of the hundreds of thousands of Chinese-made electric cars on UK roads stops dead.

Drivers frantically 攻撃する,衝突する the 支配(する)/統制するs, but to no avail. They try to get out. But the doors 辞退する to open.

Then the pile-ups begin, as other 乗り物s plough into the suddenly 静止している cars. 手足を不自由にする/(物事を)損なうing traffic jams 妨げる 緊急 services reaching the scenes of 事故s and thousands of 負傷させるd 犠牲者s die in agony.

As time goes by, people 拘留するd in their cars become ますます desperate and implore passers-by to break the windows to help them escape suffocation or hypothermia. Some are lucky, others not.

商業 is throttled too. Even with every 決裂/故障 lorry in the country mobilised, it is weeks before our 輸送(する) system returns to normal.

The 経済的な and human cost is colossal. Our 決定/判定勝ち(する)-製造者s, and those in other countries, all too readily draw the 結論 that this is no time for a militar y entanglement in a faraway land.

The いじめ(る)s of Beijing have just won a 決定的な 早期に 戦う/戦い in the struggle for 全世界の 支配.

Only last month, the US 商務長官 Gina Raimondo raised 正確に/まさに this danger. 'Imagine if there were thousands or hundreds of thousands of Chinese-connected 乗り物s on American roads that could be すぐに and 同時に 無能にするd by somebody in Beijing,' she said.

But why would 商売/仕事-minded car 製造者s 危険 destroying their brands by 潜在的に 許すing them to be used for 破壊行為? No foreign 顧客 would ever 信用 a Chinese-made 製品 again.

The answer is simple. The Chinese 共産主義者 Party enjoys 絶対の 支配(する)/統制する over its 支配するs, at home and abroad. If it みなすs a cyber-attack necessary for geopolitical 目的s, then that attack will happen, 関わりなく any transient 商業の cost.

We should be in no 疑問 of the 危険,危なくする 提起する/ポーズをとるd by 中国. The 政府's keystone 統合するd Review of our 国家の 安全 calls it an '時代-defining challenge to the international order' and MPs were 簡潔な/要約するd last month about a new wave of 干渉,妨害 目的(とする)d at 土台を崩すing our 僕主主義.

Only this week, the 規模 of 中国's ambitions became (疑いを)晴らす as pictures 現れるd showing specialised trains that can 輸送(する) EVs across the Eurasian landmass. Unlike the old, slow method of shipping by sea, transportation by rail 許すs the 乗り物s to reach Europe in just twenty days.

We have already moved to 中和する/阻止する some of the dangers t hreatened by this 津波 of Chinese 科学(工学)技術. Huawei 構成要素s were stripped, albeit belatedly, from our next-世代 5G 動きやすい phone system, for example.

But we have been na?ve, greedy and complacent when it comes to other 脅しs.

What we fail to understand is that 中国's relentless data 収穫ing in the West 供給するs Beijing with the raw 構成要素 to understand, 侵入する and 支配(する)/統制する foreign countries.

人工的な 知能 ソフトウェア running on the world's most powerful computers 精査するs and ざっと目を通すs every 粒子 of (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状), looking for patterns and anomalies to 偉業/利用する.

The biggest new vulnerability relates to the いわゆる 'Internet of Things' (IoT). This is the interconnection of 列s of 道具, from thermostats, smart メーターs, doorbells and 世帯 音声部の 装置s to ビデオ 器具/備品 and lighting systems across 産業, 商業 and public services.

At the IoT's heart are the small 'modules' that connect the 器具/備品 to the internet. Chillingly, 中国 供給するs more than three-fifths of these cheap and ubiquitous data-移転 gadgets. They are by their nature remotely controlled and can be updated by the 製造業者 whenever necessary. They also run ソフトウェア that is rarely if ever 支配するd to a 安全 review.

The 伸び(る) in convenience is enormous. Who would complain about life 存在 made cheaper and easier?

But we are ignoring the downside. Just one 妥協d 装置 can be used to 感染させる others, enabling a distant 敵 to steal data or wreak havoc.

Electric cars 追加する a new dimension to the 脅し, 追加するing what are, in 影響, 動きやすい 監視 装置s to the picture.

The result of 中国's ravenous appetite for our data will be that every 商業の, political, 軍の and 知能 secret in every Western country is 潜在的に 妥協d. So too is every facet of our personal privacy, making us 攻撃を受けやすい to ゆすり,恐喝 and いじめ(る)ing.

に引き続いて US 商業 長官 Raimondo's 警告, Washington has 開始する,打ち上げるd an 調査 into the 安全 dangers of 'foreign-made' (ie Chinese) 乗り物s connected to the internet.

This is a welcome 開発 but one which has come 危険に late. 邪魔されない by 環境の 支配するs and 労働 基準s, and with the 十分な 支援 of their 政府, Chinese car 製造者s are on 跡をつける to 支配する the 全世界の market for electric 乗り物s.

Working to a 計画(する) that is as canny as it is ruthless, they have 安全な・保証するd 抱擁する advantages in the world market for lithium ― 決定的な for 殴打/砲列s ― and the rare minerals 要求するd in the 生産/産物 of high-tech 装置s.

Though their 製品s may 欠如(する) the polish and pizazz of Western marques like Tesla, they 利益 from a h uge home market, which 申し込む/申し出s them economies of 規模 and a chance to hone their 科学(工学)技術 and 専門的知識.

That helped 中国 to become the world's biggest car 輸出業者 last year, with its 競争の激しい advantage in electric 乗り物s 始める,決める to 増加する その上の as it builds factories abroad.

Yes, electric 乗り物s' market 株 fell last month but, with Chinese electric cars costing around £9,000 いっそう少なく than their western-made 相当するものs, it seems likely that 会社/堅いs such as Tesla will 耐える the brunt of this 下降.

Tens of thousands of Chinese cars will be sold in Britain this year. This doesn't just create an 経済的な 大当り for Beijing, it gives it a geopolitical advantage too.

For modern electric cars are computers on wheels. To 機能(する)/行事 適切に, they must be 絶えず connected to the internet, so that they can receive, gather and 株 data on their 業績/成果 and surroundings.

This is a recipe for mayhem. Hackers 論証するd years ago how 平易な it was to remotely 無能にする a 選び出す/独身 乗り物. With the 十分な 負わせる of a 明言する/公表する cyber-戦争 機関 behind it, such attacks would be far more 破滅的な and 普及した.

And 破壊行為 is not the only 脅し. Like our phones and computers, computerised cars give enormous insight into our daily lives, as they collect data on everything from our 場所 and 運動ing behaviour to our taste in music, our 動きやすい phone usage and our '発言する/表明する-prints' (graphic 代表s of a person's 発言する/表明する that show its 構成要素 frequencies).

A Chinese-made 跡をつけるing 装置 was 設立する embedded in the electronics of at least one 負かす/撃墜するing Street 乗り物 last year but, in a Chinese-made car, there would be no need to 工場/植物 a 盗聴 装置. The car is the bug.

It is no coincidence that the Chinese 当局 厳密に 支配(する)/統制する the movement of Western-made electric 乗り物s such as Teslas, banning them from going 近づく 極度の慎重さを要する 政府 and 軍の 場所/位置s. We 課す no such 制限s.

In July, MPs and peers on the cross-party 知能 and 安全 C ommittee (ISC) 報告(する)/憶測d that 中国 was 的ing the UK 'prolifically and 積極性' but that our 政府 欠如(する)d the '資源s, 専門的知識 or knowledge' to 答える/応じる.

The truth is that, when it comes to Chinese EVs, our 決定/判定勝ち(する)-製造者s are still asleep at the wheel.
