Packing for the holy pilgrimage

Every year the city of Makkah witnesses the arrival of millions of pilgrims for the holy rituals of hajj and umrah. Traveling through their umrah packages UK 2022, pilgrims from across the globe gather in Haramain and offer the pilgrimage. While Hajj rituals are observed only once every year during the month of Dhu-al-Hijjah, Umrah rituals can be performed at any time of the year.

Whether you are traveling for the obligatory pilgrimage of Hajj or the sunnah pilgrimage of Umrah, preparing for the holy trips is almost the same. Yet, one of the most common mistakes that many travelers commit is overpacking their stuff.

It is always advised to travel light for your hajj and umrah journey because not only does it minimize the hassles of baggage handling but also keeps you better organized during your international stay period. Therefore, every pilgrim must only carry only its travel essentials and nothing else.

Here’s a small guide for packing for the holy pilgrimage.

Items of personal hygiene.

  1. In the state of Ihram, taking care of your oral and personal hygiene is as much significant as during normal days. It’s a very common misbelief that a pilgrim can only remove its ihram clothes after the hajj/umrah rituals are complete however the notion is completely false. One can change its ihram clothes if they get dirty.
  2. Carry a separate toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, and other items of personal use, and avoid sharing them with your fellow pilgrims for health and safety reasons.
  3. While in the state of Ihram, a pilgrim is allowed to use shampoo and shower gel to properly clean itself (as per the need). However, it must be kept in mind that toiletries used should be unscented because scented products are forbidden to be used in the state of Ihram.

Medicine.

If you are suffering from a chronic disease, it’s advised that you carry enough medications that can last for all of your international travel period. Despite this, it’s also necessary to carry some precautionary medicines as well for things like treating headaches, stomachaches, coughing, etc.

Clothes and Footwear.

  1. Every pilgrim must always pack at least two sets of Ihram clothes. So that if any of them gets dirty during the holy rituals, the extra one can be put to use.
  2. Carry 2-3 sets of your ordinary clothes (to be worn after the holy rituals are complete). You may need them for everyday use; when traveling for Ziyarath as well as for your stay in Madinah city.
  3. Geographically, Makkah remains a hot desert city. Thus, one should make sure that the clothing fabric used for Ihram is a cotton blended one. It would not only help you stay cool and airy but is also effective in avoiding skin rashes and sunburns.

These are some of the very basic yet essential things that you need to carry for the holy pilgrimage.
