The Sound Quality is Poor

When I play any video file the sound is crackly. Can someone please help me out. I have played more than one video format and I get the problem every time. I know that the files are not corrupt because they play fine in other viewers.

Check settings of "Audio" under "Options"/"Preferences" and e.g. change the "Output device" (preferably to a Direct sound device).
