Google Earth Outreach supports non-profit organizations that share our mission of community service in areas such as education & culture, environment & science, current affairs, global development, public health and social services. As a non-profit organization you can use Google Earth Free to view and create KML files. You can post those KML files on your site or email them to your partners, donors, volunteers, and beneficiaries. You may not use Google Earth Free in the course of providing a paid service to other companies or organizations.
As a part of Google Earth Outreach, we grant Google Earth Pro licenses to qualifying organizations. Google Earth Pro has powerful authoring features which allow for GIS data importation such as .shp and tab files, a movie making module, and a high resolution printing feature.
Please view our product comparison to determine whether you need the free version of Google Earth or Google Earth Pro.
Qualifying organizations can also apply for a Google SketchUp Pro grant in the Google Earth Pro grants application. Google SketchUp is software that can be used to create, share and present 3-D models. Try the free version of Google SketchUp, or learn more about SketchUp Pro.
In the United States - Organizations must have current 501(c)(3)
status, as assigned by the Internal Revenue Service to be considered for a Google Earth Pro grant.
Other countries/regions - We are currently accepting applications from eligible charitable organizations based in
Brazil,
France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK.
At this time, we're unable to make grants to the following types of groups:
Google reserves the right to award grants to any organization. Selections are made at Google's sole discretion, and decisions regarding Google Earth Pro grant recipients are final.
If your organization is a recognized 501(c)(3) whose mission and programs fit our eligibility requirements, we encourage you to apply.
Your application is more likely to be successful if you have a basic understanding of how Google Earth works, and what projects you plan to use your Google Earth Pro grant to achieve. (See the Google Earth tour). You'll be asked to provide your mission statement, any examples of already authored Google Earth KML files, and a brief statement about how your organization will benefit from a Google Earth Pro grant.
Once we select award recipients, all applicants will receive email regarding the status of their application. Because of the high volume of interest in our program, we are unable to respond to requests for information about the status of individual applications.
Please note: We select Google Earth Pro grant recipients every month. You will know within two months or less whether or not you will receive a Google Earth Pro grant.
If your organization is selected, you will receive an award notification via email with detailed instructions for setting up your Google Earth Pro account and some useful links for getting started with Google Earth.
Once you set up your Google Earth Pro account, we look forward to hearing of the successes of your work and creativity. We will send you an email at the 6 month mark asking for an update. Google Earth Pro licenses expire after a year, and we use your year end survey to assess granting a Google Earth Pro license renewal. Sharing your accomplishments with us will help us to demonstrate the health of the Earth Outreach program. We hope that you will also share links to some of the KML files you create so that we may feature them in the Google Earth Outreach Showcase.
