Chrome Web Store (Labs)

Choosing a Price

Developers with US bank accounts—and soon developers in other countries, as well—can use Chrome Web Store Payments to charge for their apps.

In this initial developer launch of international support, the Developer Dashboard lets you choose the countries in which your app will be listed, but it doesn't yet make paid items available in non-US countries. You'll need to return to the dashboard to complete the process of publishing to other countries.

When you use Chrome Web Store Payments, you need to choose from one of 18 price tiers for each country that you publish to. This page shows those price tiers, both for the US and for countries that the store will soon support. It also gives details about who can use Chrome Web Store Payments, and how much of the purchase price you can expect to receive.

Note: This page applies only if you use Chrome Web Store Payments. For information on other options, see Charging for your app in the Overview.

Who can use Chrome Web Store Payments

Currently, only developers with US bank accounts can sell apps using Chrome Web Store Payments. Soon, however, the store will allow developers from any of the following seller countries to use Chrome Web Store Payments:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • Netherlands
  • Portugal
  • Spain
  • United Kingdom
  • United States

When the Chrome Web Store launches internationally, developers from seller countries will be able to sell to any of the seller countries, as well as to the following additional buyer countries: Argentina, Brazil, India, Mexico, and Poland.

Google's transaction fee

Each time someone buys your app using Chrome Web Store Payments, Google charges you a transaction fee that is calculated using this formula:

5% * (application price - fixed fee) + fixed fee

The fixed fee in each country is approximately equivalent to $0.30 in US dollars. For example, in the United Kingdom the fee is expected to be 20p.

To illustrate how the transaction fee works, assume you sell an app in the US for $1.99. The transaction fee will be $0.38 (.05 * 1.69 + .30), and you will receive $1.61 in payment (in your local currency). Google Checkout sends out payments once per month.

The following table shows the transaction fee for each buyer country, in that country's currency.

Buyer country Transaction fee
US 5% + 0.30
Argentina 5% + 1.20
Australia 5% + 0.30
Brazil 5% + 0.50
Canada 5% + 0.30
EU (see note) 5% + 0.20
India 5% + 14
Japan 5% + 25
Mexico 5% + 3.60
Poland 5% + 0.80
UK 5% + 0.20

Note: The following EU countries will be supported for the first international release: France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain.
