Branding Guidelines

The YouTube API lets you bring the YouTube experience to your web page, application, or device. You do not need preapproval to use the YouTube API or to promote the API functionality on your site using either the "YouTube Ready", "YouTube Videos" or "Powered by YouTube" badges shown below. However, your use of these badges is governed by the YouTube API terms of service, and if that use violates branding requirements in the Terms, we may request that you modify or cease to use the badges.

This page explains the rules and restrictions for using these badges in marketing executions or in your application. YouTube API users are not allowed to use any other YouTube logos aside from these badges, which you can download the from this page.

Different API badges are available to convey different types of application functionality. API badges can be used in the following mediums: online; on mobile phones or other devices; device packaging. All online executions of partner badges must link back to the YouTube.com domain, such as the home page, a channel page or a video watch page.

"YouTube Ready"


This badge indicates that a device, such as a camera or mobile phone, or an application for that device is designed to interface with YouTube. For example, it could enable users to upload videos to YouTube or to view YouTube videos.

"YouTube Videos"


This badge indicates that a device or application is capable of displaying YouTube videos.

"Powered by YouTube"


This badge conveys that the application or website provides a rich experience that relies on many features of the YouTube APIs.

Attribution

When integrating the API into your website, you should feature the badge on any web page where the YouTube API has a presence. The badge should appear next to the location where the API implementation appears on the page. In addition, all badges on web pages must be clickable and link back to any web page on http://www.youtube.com.

The badges are available below for download and use (right-click to download). You may resize the badges to an appropriate size for your application, but any badge that you display must be at least 60px by 38px. In addition, all badges must be displayed in a single color that is complimentary to the overall creative or surrounding.

A black version and a white version of one of the badges is shown below. The white badge is shown on a red background for illustrative purposes only to demonstrate that it is visible on the page. All badges are transparent aside from their respective badge colors.

Requirements

  • YouTube API users may only use the badges shown above. Use of these badges is governed by the YouTube API Terms of Service.
  • You can change a badge's color as long as the badge content is in one single color. You can also choose the background on which the badge appears.
  • Ensure that there is sufficient contrast between the badge color and the background color for the badge to be clearly visible.
  • Do not change the mark in any way. Do not remove, obstruct, distort, or alter any element of a YouTube trademark. Similarly, you cannot modify the YouTube word mark in any way, including hyphenation, combination, abbreviation, or acronym such as: YouTubers, Tubing, Tuber, YT, You-Tube, YouTubed, etc.
  • Make sure the badge is fully and clearly visible. It should never be altered or partially covered.
  • Do not display the badge as the most prominent element on your web page.
  • Do not use a badge in ways that (1) imply an association with or endorsement of any other product, service, event, sponsorship, or organization; (2) can be reasonably interpreted to suggest that editorial content was authored by YouTube; or (3) suggest that you are representing the views or opinions of YouTube or YouTube personnel without prior written permission from YouTube. All of the aforementioned usages must be approved via written permission.
  • Do not adopt marks, logos, slogans, or designs that are confusingly similar to the YouTube trademarks or that imitate YouTube's trade dress, including the look and feel of YouTube web design properties, YouTube brand packaging, distinctive color combinations, typography, graphic designs, product icons, or imagery associated with YouTube.
  • Do not register the YouTube trademarks as second-level domain names or incorporate YouTube trademarks into your own names for products, services, features or companies. Similarly, do not incorporate YouTube trademarks into your own trademarks or logos.
  • Never display a YouTube trademark in a manner that is misleading, unfair, defamatory, infringing, libelous, disparaging, obscene or otherwise objectionable to YouTube.
  • Never display a YouTube trademark on any web site or user interface that contains or displays adult content, promotes gambling, promotes violence, contains hate speech, involves the sale of tobacco or alcohol to persons under twenty-one years of age, violates other applicable laws or regulations or is otherwise objectionable.

When creating a feature or product utilizing the YouTube API, the name of the feature or product cannot use YouTube in the name of the software or feature. If for marketing or other strategic reasons it would valuable to have YouTube referenced, it may be permissible for the developer to use the phrase "for YouTube" (e.g. "Video Box for YouTube", but never "YouTube Video Box"). However, this should be the exception and not the rule. You may not state or otherwise imply any affiliation with YouTube.
