Talks, hackathons, and meetups.
A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of welcoming OpenHatch to Northeastern's campus for a day-long open source software immersion event. Our students started off learning about open source licensing and the collaboration tools that are used today in open source projects. Later that afternoon, students were able to learn how to make use of the open source community and contribute to projects.
OpenHatch is a Massachusetts-based non-profit with the goal of expanding the open source community and lowing the barrier of entry for those wanting to get involved. You can find more information about them at their website or on Freenode at #openhatch.
Science fiction always used to be just that - fiction. But now we have things such as self-driving cars, space stations, and three-dimensional printers. What's coming next?
This Wednesday at 6 PM in 014 WVG, we'll have Sid Probstein giving a talk on the future of IT. Sid Probstein is a Northeastern Alum and the CTO of Attivio. He will discuss how incredible technologies have come to life, changed the way we view (and interact) with the world, and more. He'll also talk about what hasn't happened yet, and how we may find new inspiration in old SciFi novels.
We'll have pizza and drinks available at the talk. Be sure to RSVP on Facebook if you can.
