The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), headed by Assistant Secretary William R. Brownfield, advises the President, Secretary of State, other bureaus in the Department of State, and other departments and agencies within the U.S. Government on the development of policies and programs to combat international narcotics and crime. INL programs support two of the Department's strategic goals

  • To reduce the entry of illegal drugs into the United States; and
  • To minimize the impact of international crime on the United States and its citizens

Assistant Secretary Brownfield Visits Kabul

During his January visit, INL Assistant Secretary Brownfield met with senior Afghan officials to discuss our mutual goals of combating illicit narcotics and promoting rule of law.  He also participated in a variety of events that demonstrated our continued commitment to building the capacity of Afghan criminal justice institutions and supporting Afghan efforts to reduce the supply of and demand for illicit drugs.  Learn More»

 


INL and USIP Co-host Police Reform Workshop for North African Countries

Twenty participants from Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, Egypt, Yemen, and Algeria participated in an INL-funded workshop on police reform.  The workshop focused on how to improve, change, or reform police practices, including: crowd management, response to demonstrations, codes of conduct, and criminal investigative procedures.  Learn More»
