It begins: you can now watch a streaming version of the entire film at channel13.org.
Many more formats will be online by March 7th, the day Sita Sings the Blues airs on WNET TV (part of Reel 13 on March 7 at 10:45 pm). These will be higher resolution and free to copy and share. If you want a copy, please wait for the higher quality formats instead of capturing the very compressed channel13.org streaming version. As the artist, I want the highest quality versions to circulate; it’d be sad if a super-compressed capture started torrenting first. Together, we can keep quality high!

Update: due to popular demand, I’ve uploaded this image to archive.org in various formats. Feel free to make t-shirts, bumper stickers, etc. The file called censorship_fla is actually an .eps (vector) file and is a mere 7.5 KB. Go crazy.

Hi everyone! I’m crazy busy preparing the new “Sita” web site which will have links to the film which you can download and share for free under a Creative Commons Share Alike license starting March 7 (hopefully). Yes I plan to sell a limited edition of signed DVD packages including a free pre-downloaded DVD, but the content itself will be available for free online. My DVD packaging will take many weeks to produce, and won’t be available until after the March 7 online release. But you’ll be able to download and burn your own DVDs, as “Sita” is going 100% DRM Free. I appreciate your emails asking how to get DVDs,

I’d post a photo of the whole thing, but that would probably be violating copyright, so instead I’ll wait until the story goes online tonight and link to it. Link

On March 7, New York’s WNET Channel13 will broadcast Sita Sings the Blues. WNET hopes to make a compressed version available for streaming on their web site even earlier (they’re aiming for February 26; we’ll keep you posted).
But we also want to release it freely for decentralized audience distribution all over the web. To that end, we’re looking for multiple servers to host 500-600GB of data for public download (this includes the film-resolution image sequences as well as HD and compressed versions). We’re in touch with the usual suspects, but if you want to offer server space to join this project, please contact Karl Fogel of QuestionCopyright.org.
Note that we’re still in

The Open-Source Coffee Table Book: Publishing Pop Culture in the Digital Age

Official blurb:
Why should techies have all the fun? The few publishers to embrace open content focus primarily on technical books. But an increasing number of artists and pop culture creators are seeking alternatives to copy restricting their works. What works for Cory Doctorow’s science fiction can also work for graphic novels, art and coffee table books. Unfortunately, publishers that historically specialize in popular culture ? many of which are subsidiaries of the same media conglomerates pushing DRM and extending
