SVCD is short of Super Video Compact Disc. With one more word Super than VCD. SVCD does appear more powerful than vcd in relative technology they applied to image quality, language functions, etc. SVCD is developed by China Recording Standards Committee to enhance the independence of China's software industry as well as to reduce the cost of DVD and its license fee, etc. svcd also has its advantages over DVD, such as better offer, more easily manufactured on the basis of VCD, more suitable for common television as well as wider source of program.

MKV is a common video file defined by Matroska Media, a new multimedia package format. The feature of MKV is that it could hold many types of encoded video, audio and subtitles stream.

To convert svcd to mkv, please install the a dvd player such as PowerDVD Player or WinDVD Player for the SVCD decoder. Windows VISTA has bundled SVCD decoder. 

Download MKV Converter which can convert svcd to mkv file. Then please install MKV codecs. Please insert a SVCD into the CD/DVD drive, browse the folder MPEG2 in the disk. There are some SVCD files named MUSIC01.MPG,  MUSIC02.MPG or AVSEQ01.MPG, AVSEQ02.MPG etc in the folder. Then open the a file in the program to convert svcd to mkv file.
