Add two-step verification for extra security
Enable two-step verification to require a code (in addition to your password) any time a login attempt is made from a new device or browser. If you're already using Yahoo Account Key to sign in, you'll need to disable it to enable 2-step Verification.

Use 2-step verification with Yahoo apps
A push notification will be sent to any Yahoo app on your mobile devices.

- Sign in to your Account Security page.
- Under "Ways of signing in," click 2-step verification.
- Select Push notification for your 2-step verification method.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.

Use 2-step with authenticator app verification
Authenticator apps provide secure verification codes that act as the second step in 2-step verification. After entering your password, you'll need to enter the code generated by your authenticator app to sign in.
How do I get an authenticator app?
Download an authenticator app from the Google Play Store or App Store. Popular authenticator apps include Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, LastPass Authenticator, and Authy.

Emergency recovery code - You may be given a separate code during sign up in case you can't use the authenticator app. Print or write down this info and keep it safe, but accessible for if you can't use the app.
- Sign in to your Account Security page.
- Under to "Ways of signing in," click 2-step verification.
- Select Authenticator app for your 2-step verification method.
- To see this option, you'll need to have at least 2 recovery methods on your account. - Click Continue.
- Scan the QR code using your authenticator app.
- Click Continue.
- Enter the code shown in your authenticator app.
- Click Done.

- Click Verify.
Use 2-step with a security key
Enable a security key to further improve your account security. A security key is a physical device that will be uniquely associated with your Yahoo account after you enable it. Each time you sign in with your password, you'll be prompted to approve access to your account using your key. This prevents anyone who doesn't have your security key device from gaining access to your account.
Disable 2-step verification on your account
- Sign in to your Account Security page.
- Under "Ways of signing in," click 2-Step Verification.
- Toggle to Off.
- Click Turn off.
