At least the public 部門 strike gave us all a good laugh

I may have given the impression that I thought the public 部門 労働者s’ day of 活動/戦闘 was a bad idea. I may have 示唆するd that that the strike would be 人気がない.

I may have been mistaken. It was a lovely day.

It was fun to 運動 pas t my 地元の university and watch the lecturers trying to picket it. Poor loves, they’ve spent whole careers trying to 証明する that sea levels are rising or to make microchips walk dogs, and they’ve never had the chance to go on a real strike before.

They weren’t very good at it. They were trying to 手渡す out ちらしs and the cars were just 運動ing past. Boys and girls, if you want to picket 適切に you must have an element of 脅し. Next time see if you can get a whole (人が)群がる of lecturers up before 10.00 am and get them to stand in 前線 of oncoming catering 先頭s, looking hard.

Outside the hospital a BBC man was struggling to find a place to park a 地元の 無線で通信する car, 推定では because he didn’t want to 支払う/賃金 the £1.50 an hour for its multi-storey. Once again, 欠如(する) of experience. If you want to get there in time for the 活動/戦闘, BBC man, put it in the car park anyway and see if you can get your bosses to 支払う/賃金 the £1.50 支援する on expenses. I know there are BBC 削減(する)s, but all the same.

The hospital has plenty of car parking space, of course. But most of it is reserved for its own staff. Our NHS 信用 is happy to 勧める all its 患者s to get there on the bus, but things are different when it comes to the 労働者s.

The traffic was wonderful.

All those public 部門 経営者/支配人s staying at home meant no Priuses on the streets. Many people who 運動 Priuses are in the public 部門, because they get special cheap 取引,協定s on them from their 雇用者s ーするために save the 環境.

This also spared the cyclists. Thing about those hybrid cars, I’m told, is that you can creep up 権利 behind a cyclist electrically and silently, resulting in a 汚い shock for the pedalling party. Some may say the cyclists deserve it, and some of them certainly do, but it’s always going to be the 法律-がまんするing ones who will を煩う the Prius culture of いじめ(る)ing.

There was no school run.

I know lots of parents will be 乱暴/暴力を加えるd at the suggestion that putting the children out of school for a day was a good thing. But look at it this way: if working mothers had to stay at home, most 雇用者s will have 許容するd that because working mothers are always having to take days out to look after sick children. When a 会社/堅い 雇うs a mother, it takes the 時折の child-関係のある absence into account.

Working mothers have to stay at home ーに関して/ーの点で time anyway on those ‘training days’ that teachers take.

There is also an argument that children at some schools are likely to be 同様に off hanging around the 商店街 learning to shoplift as they would be in the classroom.

The BBC news featured one empty 最初の/主要な school classroom where, prominently on the 塀で囲む, was an art 事業/計画(する) in which the children were finding out about Andy Warhol. Perhaps the children watched that film about the bloke sleeping for five hours. That せねばならない keep them 静かな.

The TV news also featured a 審議 between a striking teacher and a caf? owner. The caf? owner explained to the teacher that he 作品 all the hours of the day and can’t afford a 年金. The teacher said he was striking not just for his own sake but to 勝利,勝つ a good 年金 for the caf? owner. The caf? owner didn’t have a reply to that.

It was my second biggest laugh of the day, after I heard about the airports.

When you have been told in all 真面目さ by very public-spirited and 関心d 貿易(する) union leaders that everybody will have to 列 for 10 hours to get into the country, it is refreshing to hear the lines were much shorter than usual.

の中で the volunteers manning the 検問所s was the 総理大臣’s 圧力(をかける) 長官. 支えるもの/所有者s of the 地位,任命する of 総理大臣’s 圧力(をかける) 長官 have not in the 最近の past been 人物/姿/数字s much loved by the public. Gabby Bertin has 回復するd our 約束.

Even Jeremy Clarkson managed to 掴む the chance to get some advertising for his Christmas DVDs. The Old 法案 might want to 追求する him for incitement to 殺人, but they p robably wouldn’t be doing much else more useful with their time.

And here’s the best result: we will save a day’s 支払う/賃金, or at least I hope we will, for however many million people it was who went on strike. That せねばならない be good enough for a 税金 削減(する).

It has been a dismal autumn dragged 負かす/撃墜する by the rotting euro and 薄暗い prospects for us. I wouldn’t go along with those newsreaders who want to 料金d us on a good news diet of 救助(する)d cats and 王室の hats, but we do need a good laugh to 元気づける us up occasionally.

So, public 部門 労働者s, I’m sorry I was 批判的な. Please strike again as soon as you like. A luta continua!
