Cyril Smith's 犠牲者s don't want police platitudes, they want his 共犯者s put behind 妨げる/法廷,弁護士業s

Abuse: Cyril Smith's accomplices must be made to face the law before, like Smith himself, death allows them to escape scot free

乱用: Cyril Smith's 共犯者s must be made to 直面する the 法律 before, like Smith himself, death 許すs them to escape scot 解放する/自由な

Cyril Smith 行う/開催する/段階d many a PR stunt over the years, so it was grimly ironic that yesterday’s 圧力(をかける) 会議/協議会, at his former stomping ground of Rochdale Town Hall, had several h allmarks of an old-fashioned マスコミ circus.

演説(する)/住所ing a sea of reporters, Sir Peter Fahy, 長,指導者 Constable of Greater Manchester Police, 発表するd that his 探偵,刑事s have identified ‘ten or 11 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑うs’ who may have conspired with the late 自由主義の MP to sexually 乱用 boys at a nearby special school.

They are also, 明らかに, considering whether my 最近の 発覚s about how Rochdale 会議 答える/応じるd to 信頼できる 報告(する)/憶測s of a paedophile (犯罪の)一味 operating at the school in the Eighties and Nineties ‘正当化するs a 犯罪の 調査 into 主張s of a cover-up’.

明確に, Sir Peter would like us to believe that his 軍隊 is 井戸/弁護士席 on 最高の,を越す of this 速く-広げるing スキャンダル, and that it ーするつもりであるs to stop at nothing to bring those 責任がある 補佐官ing and abetting Cyril Smith’s appalling 罪,犯罪s to 司法(官).

逮捕(する)s

But what do his carefully-worded comments 現実に 量 to?

Call me a cynic, but until I see 活動/戦闘s, rather than words, I will take them with a pinch of salt. The 犠牲者s of Cyril Smith, many of whom I have been in personal 接触する with, will certainly 伸び(る) very little 慰安 from learning that Sir Peter’s 探偵,刑事s may soon 開始する,打ち上げる an ‘調査’ into ‘主張s’ about their terrible ordeal.

One thing, and one thing alone, will give them any sense of 司法(官). And that will be the successful 起訴 of the men who helped Smith 乱用 them.

Make no mistake: the 身元s of many of these men have long been known to the police. They must be made to 直面する the 法律 before, like Smith himself, death 許すs them to escape scot 解放する/自由な.

The 犠牲者s don’t want words, they want 逮捕(する)s. They don’t want grandstanding 圧力(をかける) 会議/協議会s, they want these paedophiles off the streets and behind 妨げる/法廷,弁護士業s. Will the 調査 so 公然と trumpeted yesterday 確実にする that the 犠牲者s get their day in 法廷,裁判所? On 現在の form, I don’t feel very 楽観的な.

Sir Peter’s 探偵,刑事s have now been 調査/捜査するing Smith for 18 months. But so far as I am aware, not one of their supposed 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑うs has even been called in for 尋問, let alone 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金d with any 罪,犯罪.

一方/合間, several of the 犠牲者s who have taken the 勇敢に立ち向かう and difficult 決定/判定勝ち(する) to speak to 探偵,刑事s (I believe there are six, so far) have felt ignored.

Probe: One day, perhaps, a government will do the right thing, and hold a full public inquiry into how the crimes of Smith were covered-up on a national scale

調査(する): One day, perhaps, a 政府 will do the 権利 thing, and 持つ/拘留する a 十分な public 調査 into how the 罪,犯罪s of Smith were covered-up on a 国家の 規模

Their mood is perhaps best summed up by a man who phoned me just a few weeks ago, asking: ‘What has happened with this 調査?’

He 追加するd: ‘I have given the police the 指名する of the man who 乱用d me, but nothing has happened. The police 港/避難所’t 接触するd me in months. As far as I’m aware, they 港/避難所’t spoken to him, and are doing nothing. And I don’t want this guy to get away with it.’

He, like so many of Smith’s 犠牲者s, has waited an 驚くべき/特命の/臨時の length of time to see his abusers brought to 調書をとる/予約する.

Yet, even now, he struggles to be taken 本気で.

While it may be just over a fortnight since the Mail began to serialise my 調書をとる/予約する 調査/捜査するing Smith’s care er-long 性の 乱用 of young boys, the Manchester police have been in 所有/入手 of 説得力のある 証拠 against Smith and his fellow abusers for far, far longer.

Indeed, it was 支援する in November 2012 when I stood up in 議会 and? 公然と exposed what many in Rochdale had known for years: that their town’s high-profile former MP was a lifelong, predatory paedophile.?

Predator: Cyril Smith is said to have abused boys for decades

Predator: Cyril Smith is said to have 乱用d boys for 10年間s

Days later, I met Greater Manchester Police 探偵,刑事s at their (警察,軍隊などの)本部 in Newton ヒース/荒れ地 and 手渡すd over a dossier of 証拠 詳細(に述べる)ing his 罪,犯罪s.

It 含むd a copy of a 1992 Rochdale 会議 報告(する)/憶測, stretching to 概略で 40 pages, 詳細(に述べる)ing how boys as young as eight had been 支配するd to extreme 性の 乱用 at Knowl 見解(をとる) school by men travelling from as far away as 物陰/風下d? and Sheffield.

Not long afterwards, I put one of Smith’s 犠牲者s in touch with 探偵,刑事s. His 指名する was Chris Marshall, and he told a gut-wrenching tale of how he had been dragged from his bed in the middle of the night and 軍隊d to 成し遂げる a sex 行為/法令/行動する on the 29st MP.

Given the horrific and very high-profile nature of Smith’s 罪,犯罪s, not to について言及する the level of 証拠 about the way they were covered up, I 推定する/予想するd the police 調査 to 速く 産する/生じる fruit.

But I was sorely disappointed. Instead, as 圧力(をかける) ニュース報道 of the スキャンダル 原因(となる)d by my 声明 in the ありふれたs died 負かす/撃墜する, the 調査 appeared to be 静かに placed on the 支援する burner. As recently as January this year, I 試みる/企てるd to schedule a 会合 with the Greater Manchester Police for an update on the 進歩 of their 調査.

The officer in 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 辞退するd to talk to me, 説 I needed to speak to Annette Anderson, Rochdale’s Divisional 指揮官. She wouldn’t 会合,会う me either, but 約束d to ‘find someone else’ who would.

Needless to say, she? never did.

It was only this month, after my 調書をとる/予約する on Cyril Smith was serialised by the Mail, that Manchester police appeared finally to 回復する a serious 利益/興味 in the 事例/患者. It’s shocking, on the 直面する of it, for this to have taken so long.

Traumatised

Uncovered: Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk blew the whistle on Sir Cyril's four decades of child abuse

暴露するd: Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk blew the whistle on Sir Cyril's four 10年間s of child 乱用

The police’s dismissive 治療 of me is important, because it speaks 容積/容量s for the 態度 of inscrutability that still pervades the British 設立.

After all, if an MP like me struggles to get a 事例/患者 this important taken 本気で by the 当局, what chance might the often traumatised and 高度に 攻撃を受けやすい 犠牲者s of people such as Cyril Smith have?

It is, of course, this same 態度 that 許すd Smith to get away with his 罪,犯罪s for almost four 10年間s, にもかかわらず 主張s about his behaviour 存在 広範囲にわたって known in Westminster during that time.

As my 調書をとる/予約する 明らかにする/漏らすs, police received more than 140 (民事の)告訴s about him over the years. He was 繰り返して 逮捕(する)d ― and let off ― for ‘cottaging’ with young boys in public 洗面所s. And he was once caught with a stash of child pornography in his car boot.

Though the 設立 of the day was aware of at least some of his 罪,犯罪s, he was able to 避ける 起訴 throughout his life.

And nowhere was his 犯罪の behaviour more studiously ignored than in 議会.

As Des Wilson ― a former 自由主義の Party 大統領,/社長 ― wrote in last 週末’s Mail on Sunday, he felt that when 直面するd with rumours of Smith’s 罪,犯罪s the party’s leadership ‘got the biggest spade they could find, dug the biggest 穴を開ける in the sand they could manage, and buried their 集団の/共同の 長,率いるs in it’.

妨害するd

Today, some 25 years later, my 失望させるing experience 試みる/企てるing to get the police to take a serious 利益/興味 in Smith perhaps illustrates how instinctively the 当局 still 試みる/企てる to 保護する their own.

One of the 重要な problems here is that the police themselves were at the heart of the? cover-up that they are now 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金d with 調査/捜査するing.

Again and again in my 調書をとる/予約する, I 明らかにする/漏らす how 上級の police officers 妨害するd 試みる/企てるs to expose Smith ― to the 失望させるd fury of their own 階級 and とじ込み/提出する, who knew he was 有罪の and yearned to see him in the ドッキングする/減らす/ドックに入れる.

Prompt: It was only this month,
after Mr Danczuk's book on Cyril Smith was serialised by the Mail, that Manchester police appeared finally to regain a serious interest in the case

誘発する: It was only this month, after Mr Danczuk's 調書をとる/予約する on Cyril Smith was serialised by the Mail, that Manchester police appeared finally to 回復する a serious 利益/興味 in the 事例/患者

I am also very worried by the 狭くする, 地元の 焦点(を合わせる) of the 提案するd 調査. If anything has become (疑いを)晴らす about this sordid 事件/事情/状勢, it is that Smith’s sphere of 影響(力) stretched far beyond Rochdale. I believe he was part of a VIP paedophile (犯罪の)一味 that was active in London and other parts of the country, with protectors at the highest level of the 設立.

Hopefully that 設立 edifice is starting to 割れ目. Manchester police have finally 誓約(する)d to take Smith’s 罪,犯罪s 本気で ― and I and others ーするつもりである to make sure they see it through. 一方/合間, 軍隊s in other parts of the country? have 接触するd me 捜し出すing? 証拠 in other historic child sex 調査s.

One day, perhaps, a 政府 will do the 権利 thing, and 持つ/拘留する a 十分な public 調査 into how the 罪,犯罪s of Smith ― and other high-profile child abusers like him ― were covered-up on a 国家の 規模. Perhaps then the 十分な truth might 現れる about this story of terrible depravity.
