DAN HODGES: On the cusp of an 選挙? No way. It's ALREADY begun and... Boris Johnson is winning 手渡すs 負かす/撃墜する
It was the moment the Blond Bumbler became the Blond 暗殺者.?
'Penny was the first to see him,' an 同盟(する) of the former Defence 長官 Penny Mordaunt explains, 'and Boris just said to her, 'I'm sorry, but there isn't room for you.' It was so 残虐な. It was like he was trying to make an example of her.'
Foreign 長官 Jeremy 追跡(する) was called in soon after and 申し込む/申し出d her 役割.?
'Jeremy told Boris he couldn't take Penny's 職業 when she'd just been 解雇する/砲火/射撃d from it for supporting him,' a friend 明らかにする/漏らすs. So he was 速く axed too.
It was the moment the Blond Bumbler became the Blond 暗殺者
Jeremy 追跡(する) was 申し込む/申し出d ex-Defence 長官 Penny Mordaunt's 役割 but 拒絶する/低下するd because she'd just been 解雇する/砲火/射撃d from it for supporting him
'Boris thought, '罰金, I get two of you out for the price of one,' ' says a Johnson confidant.
の中で the next to go was Liam Fox. によれば Johnson 同盟(する)s, the 令状ing had been on the 塀で囲む for the International 貿易(する) 長官 from the moment he called on Boris to 明らかにする the 詳細(に述べる)s of his 悪名高い late-night 列/漕ぐ/騒動 with his partner Carrie Symonds.
'Carrie was really upset about that and Boris was furious. He told people, 'What are 追跡(する)'s team playing at? If that had happened to Jeremy, I'd have come out and supported him,' ' says one.
Many things were 推定する/予想するd to define the first hours of the new Johnson 行政. 支持者s longed for a 殺到する of dynamism and 楽観主義. 対抗者s 恐れるd a 降下/家系 into the disordered impulsiveness that forms such an integral part of the 'Boris Brand'.
But no one was 推定する/予想するing such a swift and overt 陳列する,発揮する of ruthlessness. 'Everyone was calling for May to chop away the dead 支持を得ようと努めるd,' says one MP. '井戸/弁護士席, Boris has done that. And then he's gone and chopped 負かす/撃墜する the entire forest.'
There was 明確に an element of 得点する/非難する/20-settling behind the way Britain's new 総理大臣 (権力などを)行使するd the dagger. It's impossible to find any other 合理的な/理性的な for the defenestration of Mordaunt, a 井戸/弁護士席- 尊敬(する)・点d, 効果的な Brexiteer.
But there is also 冷淡な method behind the way he has (手先の)技術d his new 閣僚. And within the space of 72 hours, it has redefined the political landscape.
Over the past few days, a number of people have been 推測するing that we may be on the cusp of a snap 選挙. But they're wrong. The next 選挙 has already been called. And Boris is winning it.
As the 規模 of Wednesday's cull began to become 明らかな, one stunned Tory MP exclaimed to a 同僚: 'The 投票(する) Leave (選挙などの)運動をする is now running the country.'?
Which is 正確に/まさに how Boris and his 上級の team want the 改造(する) to be 見解(をとる)d by the wider world. Or more 特に, the 部分 that has recently abandoned the 保守的な Party for the warm embrace of Nigel Farage.
Dominic Cummings ? Boris's new de facto 長,指導者 of staff ? held his first 会合 with No 10 スタッフの一員s on Thursday, and had some bad news for them: summer has been 延期するd
As I 支持するd in this column two weeks ago, Boris has 任命するd an unashamedly, unambiguously, unimpeachably プロの/賛成の-Brexit 閣僚.?
会員の地位 is 扶養家族 on a 選び出す/独身, simple 基準. Do the 支えるもの/所有者s of the 広大な/多数の/重要な offices of 明言する/公表する unequivocally support Britain's 出発 from the EU no later than October 31? And do they 支援する doing so without a 取引,協定 if 非,不,無 can be 安全な・保証するd?
All of the people sitting 一連の会議、交渉/完成する the あわてて 延長するd 閣僚 (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する last Thursday answered that question in the affirmative. Which means that where Theresa May created 混乱 and 大混乱, there is suddenly stark and piercing clarity.
For those who wish to 出口 the EU as 速く and cleanly as possible, the 保守的な Party is now their 乗り物. The Brexit Party has done its 職業. May is gone. The Remainers are gone. The Brexiteers have taken 十分な 所有権 of Brexit.
Westminster whisper?
This has been graphically illustrated by the new change in トン emanating from within 負かす/撃墜するing Street with regards to the 交渉 with Brussels on the 撤退 協定.
去っていく/社交的な May 公式の/役人s were last week admitting to me they had been too passive in their 戦略. 'One of the biggest mistakes we made was trying to 避ける doing anything that would create a 分裂(する),' says one former 助言者. 'You could see that when they 辞退するd to 転換 on the backstop, and we just 受託するd it.'
Team Boris, in contrast, is planning to be 意味ありげに more 強健な. 'If you look at the 返答 from the EU to Boris's speeches in 負かす/撃墜するing Street and the ありふれたs, it was 悲観的な. You could (悪事,秘密などを)発見する 逮捕. And we're not that 関心d about that. It's 有益な for our 戦略,' says a Boris 補佐官.
I'm told Foreign 長官 Dominic Raab's 決定/判定勝ち(する) to app oint former Michael Gove 助言者 Beth Armstrong as one of his 上級の 補佐官s is likely to 原因(となる) 花火s
Clarity has also 現れるd on the other 味方する of the Brexit divide, with the 選挙 of new Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson. A 'clean-肌', not associated in 投票者s' minds with the days of 連合, she gives Remainers their own (疑いを)晴らす 選択. If you want to stay in the EU, the Lib Dems are the choice for you.
Which leaves 労働 stuck in a half-in, half-out Brexit no-man's-land. And Boris knows it. In the next few days, he is planning to park a 抱擁する red Brexit bus on the quagmire that is Jeremy Corbyn's lawn.
Dominic Cummings ? credited with 操るing the 国民投票 victory ? has been 仕事d with working up a 配達/演説/出産 戦略 not just for Brexit, but a 範囲 of 政策s to ひったくる 労働's 中心地域 選挙区/有権者s from Corbyn's 滞るing しっかり掴む. 'You're going to be seeing a 一連の 告示s on 罪,犯罪, education and the NHS,' a No 10 助言者 明らかにする/漏らすs. 'We're going to be 直接/まっすぐに 的ing the areas that 事柄 to 伝統的な 労働 投票者s.'
And the person 主要な that 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 will be Boris Johnson himself. Theresa May 行為/行うd herself with dignity and humility throughout her 首相の職.?
Boris is going to hurl himself at Jeremy Corbyn with the ferocity of a newly uncaged velociraptor. Watching their first 遭遇(する) across the 派遣(する) Box was like sitting ringside at a ボクシング match between a 支持する/優勝者 heavyweight and a broken フライ級選手. By the end, Tory MPs were roaring, and 労働 MPs were 猛烈に 回避するing their gaze.
For the past three years, Corbyn has been able to hide behind his army of sycophants and social マスコミ 凶漢s. But he has nowhere to hide any more.
This was not how things were supposed to be. The Johnson 時代 was meant to begin with a flurry of good-natured bombast, 井戸/弁護士席-意向d 混乱 and misguided enthusiasm. Few foresaw the 選び出す/独身-minded, 焦点(を合わせる)d ruthlessness of the past few days.
Our new PM's 同僚s have learnt the hard way there is more to Boris than the bumbling caricature. His 計画(する) is the next person to learn that lesson will be Jeremy Corbyn.?
