Sarah Jessica Parker: not 正確に/まさに frumpy

Pearls 伝統的に symbolise 青年 and 潔白.

Everyone knows they are supposed to 追加する lustre to your 肌.

So why is it that when I put them on, I 必然的に take them off before leaving the house because they 追加する at least a 10年間 to my 37 years?

I'm afraid the sad truth is that after the bloom of 青年 is lost, pearls look matronly and ageing.

Worrying, then, that they are 支援する in fashion.

This is 予定, in part, to the new grown-up 態度 on the catwalk - all decorative トロフィー jackets and 非常に高い heels - and also in part to the 攻撃する,衝突する TV series Mad Men, where the women 似ている 審査する サイレン/魅惑的なs Grace Kelly or Marilyn Monroe and pearls are de rigueur.

'To wear pearls and look modern without looking old or like a Fifties pastiche, you have to make them look casual,' says my
friend who owns a fashion boutique.

And I get it: if you stick pearls with cashmere or smart 黒人/ボイコット anything, you automatically look bland, 安全な and, yes, middle-老年の.

And who wants that??

The 代案/選択肢? 'Put pearls with ジーンズs, definitely not with tailoring,' says my friend. 'And don't wear them with heels unless you're trying to look ironic.'

Pah! I can't be bothered with ironic.

Next time I'm tempted to wear pearls, I'll 目的(とする) for the French insouciance of Ines de la Fressange, Karl Lagerfeld's one-time muse, who 具体的に表現するd the style of Chanel in the Eighties wearing denim and a 緊急発進する of Chanel chains and pearls.?

Who knows, teamed with a T-shirt and some lovingly worn denim, my pearls might yet make it out the 前線 door this summer.

Michelle Obama, left, manages to keep her pearls 同時代の by 二塁打ing over a 巨大な string and pairing with 冷静な/正味の three-4半期/4分の1 sleeve jacket. Helen Mirren, 権利, 反抗するs normal 支配するs by wearing pearls over 50 with aplomb: the multi-string necklace looks modern and luminescent on the actress
