I asked for A+ boobs and woke up with D cups - what I learned about the breast 再建 産業 in the wake of my 二塁打 mastectomy shocked me

  • Sarah Thornton 特に asked for between an A and B cup
  • In her 調書をとる/予約する, Tits Up, she made some shocking 発見s about male 外科医s
  • One doctor asked husband about sizing up implants while his wife was asleep

選ぶing for a 二塁打 mastectomy was an '平易な 決定/判定勝ち(する),' Sarah Thornton says.

After years of 生体検査s and まっただ中に the continuing 脅し of breast , she went into the 外科 and, without much thought, 選ぶd for the 再建 covered by her health 保険.

To her enormous 救済, the rogue 独房s turned out not to be cancerous.

But when she looked at herself in the mirror 地位,任命する-再建, her new breasts felt like strangers. And 非,不,無 of her favorite jackets fitted.

It was only about three months later - after the 包帯s (機の)カム off and the swelling had come 負かす/撃墜する - that she was 手段d for a new bra and discovered, to her shock, that she had ballooned from a humble B cup to a 意味ありげに more generous D.

'I was really (疑いを)晴らす,' she 解任するs. 'I literally asked for lesbian yoga boobs. Those were the words I used.?

'Then I followed it up with an email 説, "I do not want to go big, just somewhere between an A and a B." And, because I love a joke, I couldn't help myself. I said, "Think of it as an A 加える boob."'

In her book, Tits Up, Thornton encounters one male doctor and writes: 'I suspect? he'd established his surgical standards in the 1980s, when Pamela Anderson's bust was iconic'

What had 誘発するd the 外科医 to 'go large' against her 表明するd wishes? As she started asking questions, interviewing hundreds of women 同様に as professionals in the 医療の community, she discovered that she was far from alone.?

In fact, she 暴露するd a male-支配するd plastic 外科 産業 that - in essence - bestows Playboy fantasy boobs on unsuspecting women, based on its perception of what is sexy and attractive.

より小数の than 18 per cent of active plastic 外科医s in the US are women, while more than 90 per cent of the clientele is 女性(の). And, until 2022, breast augmentation was by far the most ありふれた 手続き 成し遂げるd globally.

In her 調書をとる/予約する, Tits Up, Thornton 遭遇(する)s one male doctor - 'I call him Dr Moore, because he was literally more and more and more' - who 主張するd on using 385cc implants (over twice the size of some fellow surg eons' 普通の/平均(する)), because his ideal cleavage had a gap no wider than a pinky finger.

'I 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑う… he'd 設立するd his surgical 基準s in the 1980s, when Pamela Anderson's 破産した/(警察が)手入れする was iconic.'?

Others 故意に design breasts with nipples so far above their normal 場所, they can't help but pop out of the bra.

Dr Kelly Bolden says in the 調書をとる/予約する: 'When I go to plastic 外科 会議/協議会s, the 大多数 of 専門家s on breasts are still men.

'When they talk about an aesthetically pleasing breast and show their befores and afters, the 女性(の) 外科医s in the audience will cringe because it's obvious that these men find what we call "pseudo ptosis" attractive.'

The choice to 'go flat' and not opt for reconstruction was considered a sign of poor mental health by some male doctors

This 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 述べるs a 条件 where the nipple is in the upper half of the breast, いつかs even pointing 上向き.?

Thornton even (機の)カム across one 外科医 who 辞退するd a 患者's 嘆願s for him to 除去する the implants he'd given her, on the grounds that he didn't like the way breasts looked after.?

'My results are my calling card,' he is 報告(する)/憶測d as 説, 'and I don't want my 指名する on that.'

In contrast, Thornton believes her own doctor was just doing his best, in the 直面する of a 欠陥d 産業 基準.

'There's a whole profession who 令状 papers... who agree literally on 測定s, like the distance between the sternum and the nipple and the areola, and what's the 権利 size of areola.

'It's about a professional 基準 of beauty, and a professional 基準 of what is the norm. This is bigger than indivi 二重の, personal predilections; it is about the male 支配 of an 産業.'

追加するing of her own 再建: 'Objectively, this was an excellent result.

'Unfortunately, [my doctor] was (海,煙などが)飲み込むd in a whole profession that created these 議定書s and 測定s and 基準s that are at 半端物s with a lot of women's 願望(する)s for their own 運動競技の self or their own small-chested self.'

Her findings are echoed by Dr Elisabeth Potter, who 述べるs how, during her training at UT Southwestern,?the choice to 'go flat'?after mastectomy, and not have 再建, was considered a 調印する of poor mental health by her 大多数 male 同僚s.

She says in the 調書をとる/予約する: 'The male faculty...?were 焦点(を合わせる)d on what they 本人自身で 設立する sexy and 控訴,上告ing.?Natural breasts were 非難するd. Artificially inflated ones were glorified. They commended the 外科医 who asked the husband about sizing up the implants while the wif e was asleep.'

'本人自身で,' Thornton 追加するs wryly, 'I would never have my plastic 外科 done by one of my husband's ゴルフing buddies.'

However, despite the fact that not only did she hate her new breasts - they also gave her '演習 intolerance,' meaning she couldn't swim or do yoga without experiencing 苦痛 and stiffness - Thornton never considered 告訴するing.

'I'm not a litigious type of person,' she says. 'My mother is British - you know, keep 静める and carry on. And also, when I was a kid, she never gave me 薬/医学, I'd have to be on my deathbed to get an aspirin. That's the way I was brought up. So it would have been anathema to me.'

令状ing the 調書をとる/予約する was, she says, her 傷をいやす/和解させるing 過程. 'And I feel 感謝する, in a very weird way, because I lost something that I hadn't even really 率d as very important. I think I was amongst a general 次第で変わる/派遣部隊 of women who are like, "Boobs, you know, the men like them and whatever." They get in the way.

'Most women have 衝突d feelings around their breasts,' she 追加するs. 'That happens to something that's over-sexualized in a culture.

'There's a big difference between the way men look at them, and the way women look at them, and the way men look at them 肉親,親類d of 支配するs.'

Finally, however, after she'd finished 令状ing the 調書をとる/予約する, she got the breasts she'd 手配中の,お尋ね者.

Her 権利 boob ('the one I jokingly called Bert ') had turned 180 degrees and was now pointing inward.

'Think of it this way,' she explains. 'You've got an egg, sunny 味方する up. And it was flipped. It was like my 権利 boob was over-平易な.'

The left breast, 一方/合間, had capsular contracture, which is when scar tissue starts to strangle the implant and is 極端に painful. When she 結局 went under the knife, she discovered the implant had 決裂d, after just five years.

選ぶing for a 女性(の) 外科医 this time - at the same hospital - she repeated her 願望(する) for smaller breasts. 'I said, "Please, I love to swim. I love doing yoga, I want to go smaller."

'[The 外科医] did a 広大な/多数の/重要な 職業. I 現実に feel very happy with these,' she says.

She's even 改名するd them. They're no longer 指名するd after the male Muppets Bert and Ernie. 'They're now Glenda and Brenda, which is my mother and her high school friend from Harlow.'
