Nobody's perfect

I read magazines like Allure and Glamour and I feel ugly afterwards', says Sharon Dowsett, a make-up artist who has spent 20 years transforming models such as Kate Moss and Gisele Bundchen into 前線-cover goddesses.

Now, Dowsett, a modest 38-year-old 'lass' from Peckham with a lifelong obsession with 非難する, thinks the fun has gone out of beauty.

Beautiful without the Botox

'I think it's time to celebrate people who are ageing gracefully without 訴える手段/行楽地ing to Botox, plastic 外科 and tooth whitening, and to start 株ing some honest advice.'

Last week, it was 発表するd that the cosmetic quick-直す/買収する,八百長をする 治療 Botox may 現実に give you fresh wrinkles next to the ones it has smoothed out.

Former It Girl Tara Palmer-Tomkinson says she has been having the painful 注射s every three months for the past two years.

'Six years of 麻薬 乱用 took its (死傷者)数 on my 直面する and left me looking thin and lined', the 31-year-old 認める.

Dowsett, who became famous for transforming Bjork into an extraterrestrial geisha for her Homogenic album cover, thinks this 肉親,親類d of 態度 is sad.

'People are becoming obsessed with staying young. We don't see what Madonna and Liz Hurley look like in the morning - I mean, how hard it must be for them to try and be perfect all the time. Rather than go under the knife, people should just try learning a new make-up 技術.'

'Botox is making women look homogenous', she continues. 'We forget, beauty is in how our 直面する moves; now we are trying to 凍結する that.'

Have your say

Perhaps, she 示唆するs, we are 苦しむing from Sex and the City syndrome. 'Women in New York have always been under a lot of 圧力 to look good and I think that's happening over here now; before, we were much more laid-支援する.'

'Looking good should be a joyous 過程,' she continues, 'but a lot of us 結局最後にはーなる 存在 too hard on ourselves, 含むing me. We need to stop (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域ing ourselves up.'

She partly 非難するs the growth of advertising, which encourages unnatural 基準s in beauty.

'In real life we are nothing like the airbrushed images 現在のd by beauty companies. Yes, it's good to have something to aspire to, but it has gone too far - all that airbrushing, 地位,任命する-生産/産物, 製図/抽選 in 偽の eyelashes. I would love to advise make-up companies on how to be more 'real' in their advertising.'

This is part of the 推論する/理由 why she has 始める,決める up her own website, www.i-影をつくる/尾行する.逮捕する.

'I want it to become a 会議 for the public, 同様に as fashion writers, to 地位,任命する 正確に/まさに what they think about 製品s,' she says, 'an honest and unbiased opinion.'

Next month, she wants to run a 審議 on advertising. 'I want to ask whether beauty magazines and beauty companies are letting women 負かす/撃墜する. Are we not telling them the truth about the 製品s they're buying?

'I'm not in 対立 to the beauty 設立, but I hope through the 場所/位置 to become an 代案/選択肢 '発言する/表明する' and dispense 非,不,無-法人組織の/企業の advice.'

The truth behind the glossy covers

Dowsett, a gap-toothed cutie who has never been a slave to healthy living ideals - although she did give up smoking last year - started wearing make-up, 老年の seven, to her 最初の/主要な school.

'We were 許すd to 表明する ourselves, so I would pop on pearly blue or green 影をつくる/尾行する from my mum's make-up 捕らえる、獲得する.'

During her teenage years in the Eighties, when Dowsett lived in Dartford, make-up became her life.

'I piled it on. I wore Topshop and No 17 from Boots. Now it's MAC, Chanel, Helena Rubinstein and Guerlain. I think women are becoming 脅迫してさせるd by the cost and array of make-up 利用できる these days.'

Dowsett is in 需要・要求する at the moment, creating make-up for the catwalk shows in Milan. She says models need a bit of help like an あそこの else.

'No one has perfect 肌 - even Gisele scrubs up better with make-up. Their 肌 苦しむs 不正に from late nights, jet lag, smoking and bad eating habits. They get terrible 位置/汚点/見つけ出すs, just like the 残り/休憩(する) of us.

'What we see on the 前線 of the magazine cover is not what they look like every day.'

As one miffed 観察者/傍聴者 bluntly told Kate Moss last Saturday night, after spotting her having dinner at Sketch: 'You're not as nice in the flesh as you are in the photos.'

Perhaps we need to remember that.
