My husband is having a 逆転する midlife 危機

Lately, my husband’s behaviour has veered from わずかに strange to, 率直に, downrig ht 怪しげな.

He’s been switching his 動きやすい off for unaccountable chunks of time in the day; coming home and 長，率いるing straight for the にわか雨 and, worst of all, （疑いを）晴らすing his history on Google, which ― as any wife knows ― is a sure 調印する that he’s up to no good.

I’m a little worried, to be honest. Keith has just turned 44. He is losing hair on his 長，率いる but finding it in his ears and up his nose, and is 一般に展示（する）ing all the symptoms of a man hurtling に向かって a 中央の-life 危機 faster than the 崩壊（する） of the eurozone.?

What, I’ve been wondering, is the worst that can happen? Will he get a tattoo, have an 事件／事情／状勢 with a 20-year-old who has time to shave her 脚s or ― worse still ― start gallivanting around in leather trousers?

As it turns out, I needn’t have worried. Or perhaps I should be worrying more. Because last week he finally （機の）カム clean. He’s been doing a lot of soul-searching and has decided to make some major changes to his life, the first of which will be buying a .?.?. Volvo 広い地所.

He’s also been having 十分な団体／死体医療の examinations on the sly and その結果 will be giving up smoking and 拒否権ing alcohol in the week. And that’s not all. He’s 内密に been shopping for road racing bikes and will be spending every Sunday morning until その上の notice 覆う？ in tight Lycra in a worthy 企て，努力，提案 to 改善する his cardiovascular fitness.?

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. The man I married 13 years ago owned a Yamaha V-max monster of a motorbike, for heaven’s sake! I loved the fact he grabbed life by the horns and had a 十分な-octane 存在.

So when I read last week that 42-year-old 最高の，を越す Gear presenter Richard Hammond is having a 類似の period of reassessment in what he has dubbed a ‘逆転する’ 中央の-life 危機, I couldn’t help sparing a thought for his wife, Mindy. How happy is she that he has 貿易（する）d in his 黒人／ボイコット Lamborghini for a pink camper 先頭, got a sensible hairstyle (finally) and 削減（する）負かす／撃墜する on cigarettes and drinking?

But it seems the 逆転する midlife 危機 is more ありふれた than we’ve been led to believe. 証拠 seems to 示唆する that the 中央の-life 危機 is having a bit of an 身元危機 of its own. It has been such a 広範囲にわたって受託するd 概念 for years that we have grown to 推定する／予想する men to 攻撃する，衝突する their 40s and start reliving their 青年 in an embarrassingly predictable way.

Yet, によれば研究, this is no longer the 事例／患者 at all. A 熟考する／考慮する行為／行うd by Experian, the credit check company, of 2,000 adults in the UK between the ages of 40 and 59 showed that 85 per cent had made 重要な changes to their home, family and work lives in a 企て，努力，提案 to 見解（をとる） middle age as a second chance to 達成する their ambitions and 願望（する）s.

The 大多数 also planned to learn a new 技術, （問題を）取り上げる a hobby and start an 演習政権. Comedian Joe Pasquale did just that after winning I’m A Celebrity .?.?. Get Me Out Of Here in 2004. ‘When most men have a 中央の-life 危機, they go for younger women and motorbikes,’ he jokes. ‘Instead, I went for a BSc with the Open University. I just suddenly realised there was so much more I 手配中の，お尋ね者 to learn.’

I know I should be rel ieved that instead of buying a sports car, Keith has 購入（する）d a reliable モーター with the 追加するd feature of seats that warm up your 底（に届く）. And I must try to be 感謝する that my once hellraiser of a hubby is 本体，大部分／ばら積みの-buying Berocca from the supermarket and worrying about his 残り／休憩（する）ing heart 率.

As I watch him wobbling out of the driveway on his new bicycle, helmet 安全に安全な・保証するd to his ever-balding 長，率いる and waterproof Ordnance 調査する地図／計画する stowed in his pocket, I am in no 疑問 which 中央の-life direction he has taken and it makes me suddenly, 圧倒的に glad. If only because I know that when my time for a 中央の-life 危機 comes, one of us will still be 事実上の／代理 our age. And 信用 me, it’s not going to be me.
