Anyone for a puff of lemon tart? Now there's food you don't eat but INHALE

My 長,率いる is 一時停止するd over a goldfish bowl. A glass straw is between my lips. Clouds of smoke are wafting into my 直面する and lemon tart 渦巻くs around my mouth.
Only it’s not a big 厚板 of calorific lemon tart spooned up from a plate. This is ‘breathable’ lemon tart.
Instead of eating it, the tart is 存在 pumped out of a futuristic machine that looks like a glorified goldfish bowl ― called Le Whaf. And, rather than a triangular slice, this lemon tart looks like a puff of smoke.

At first, my mouth feels warm and 乾燥した,日照りの; then, as the droplets in the smoke settle, I can make out the particular flavours. The lemon tart is zingy and fresh. Next, a whaf of tarte tatin fills my mouth with caramel.
It might sound mad, but ‘whaffing’ is ?予報するd to be the futuristic way of eating. That’s why I’ve travelled to Paris to try one of only two Whaf machines in the world.
Best of all, each breath (or ‘whaf’) ?含む/封じ込めるs hardly any calories ― so you can have as much as you like without 伸び(る)ing 負わせる.
This magical 発明 has been ?conjured up by a Harvard University professor and aerosol scientist. And five minutes after 会合 Professor David Edwards, 49, it’s (疑いを)晴らす why he’s compared more often to Willy Wonka than Einstein.
He drifts into his 研究室/実験室 wearing penny-一連の会議、交渉/完成する glasses, his curly hair 悪賢い with oil, wearing a crumpled camel cashmere sweater and gesticulating wildly with his 手渡すs.
He’s brimming with ideas to make this catch on. ‘Imagine a restaurant where, instead of sitting at a (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する, you walk around,’ he says in his ?chalky-soft 発言する/表明する. ‘Instead of eating food, you’re breathing it in as you walk from room to room, each with a ?different flavour. Celery in one. Steak in another. Then pate.’

Professor Edwards is 毅然とした that this smoky little bowl will go on sale in フラン this autumn for いっそう少なく than £85 and quickly catch on around the world.
You can even use it to whaf ?alcohol. ‘Drinks with strong flavours such as whiskeys work 井戸/弁護士席,’ explains Edwards. To make it work, you have to 注ぐ 50ml of the drink you want to whaf into a 井戸/弁護士席 in the base.
Whaffing food is more 複雑にするd. If you want, say, tomato soup, you need to buy a 特に-用意が出来ている ?liquidised 見解/翻訳/版 of the dish made by Edwards’s team, which 含む/封じ込めるs a secret mix of its ‘essences’.
To make the machine work, just 圧力(をかける) the ‘on’ switch. Within a minute, a cloud of tiny droplets forms in the goldfish bowl.
The cloud can be ?dispensed from a nozzle on the 味方する of Le Whaf. It then stays ?一時停止するd inside the glass for a minute before it 沈むs.
The 過程 going on inside the 機械/機構 of Le Whaf is more 複雑にするd. It’s filled with ?special 水晶s (called piezoelectric ?水晶s) that vibrate 速く when Le Whaf is switched on, その為に creating ultrasound waves.
These waves create 補欠/交替の/交替する low and high 圧力s through the ?liquid which make it 泡 and then transform it into tiny liquid droplets that look like a cloud.

In the beginning, the 発明 was ‘wonderfully pointless’ says Edwards. Just before he opened his 研究室/実験室 in 2007, he visited the Bordeaux restaurant of two? Michelin-starred chef Thierry Marx.
‘I’d had a few too many glasses of ワイン,’ he 収容する/認めるs. ‘And I was nervous about what to do with the 研究室/実験室. I asked Thierry if it was possible to eat by breathing. He said yes. It was as simple as pulling the idea from the sky like that.’
His first 実験 with ?breathable food was with Le Whif, a lipstick tube-形態/調整d contraption that 作品 like an 喘息 pump. But instead of 医薬, it is filled with 砕くd chocolate, coffee or ビタミンs.
‘Whiffers’ put their lips around the base of the tube and breathe in to fill their mouth with the 砕く. A 選び出す/独身 puff (one calorie) is supposed to 満たす chocolate or caffeine ?cravings ― and it’s doing surprisingly 井戸/弁護士席. More than 200,000 Whifs sold last year, the 大多数 in the UK (£4, House of Fraser).
As for Le Whaf: ‘It’s good for 食餌療法している人s.’ (Ten minutes of ?whaffing produce only 200 calories.)
‘It’s 広大な/多数の/重要な fun, too,’ says Edwards. ‘加える, it’s an amuse bouche, a conversation starter. It’s a way of savouring the flavour of アル中患者 drinks without getting drunk. Most of all, it’s a way for ?foodies to savour flavours.’
Yet, strangely, Edwards himself isn’t a foodie. ‘Every day I have the same lunch. Half a baguette and two yoghurts. And every Sunday I have eggs for dinner.’
After three-and-a-half hours in his 研究室/実験室, Edwards is still buzzing around, but I’m all whaffed out. Not to について言及する famished. My mouth tastes like cardboard and my 長,率いる is buzzing.
So I leave and 長,率いる to a cafe to gobble 負かす/撃墜する a hot 挟む of camembert, ham and potatoes.
