Moisturiser. Cleanser. Anti-ageing serum. These are the bathroom 製品s used by millions of Britons in the hope they will keep us looking younger and fresher.

And now it might be time to 追加する another 道具 to the beauty box: age-反抗するing toothpaste.

約束ing to regenerate your smile, this wave of 前進するd toothpastes wouldn’t look out of place next to pricey 直面する creams ? some are even 述べるd as elixirs and 含む／封じ込める some of the same anti-ageing 奇蹟 成分s, such as hyaluronic 酸性の, which plumps up and アイロンをかけるs out the 肌. But they come at a cost.

A Mail on Sunday 査察 of high-street pharmacies 設立する some of these beautifying toothpastes cost up to £76 a pop. Even Colgate is 非難する £20 for its 最新の whitening 製品.

But can a tube of toothpaste really turn 支援する the clock for your oral health?

Or is it a 事例／患者 of spitting money 負かす／撃墜する the 沈む?

We asked some of the 最高の，を越す UK dental 専門家s for their 判決...?

Theodent 300: £76

The （人命などを）奪う，主張する: With a gold-decorated flat tube, this is 法案d as the most expensive toothpaste in the world.

Its ‘革命の’ 決まり文句／製法 is made from an 抽出する of the cacao 工場／植物 called theobromine. Theodent says this has been proven to 強化する 水晶s in tooth enamel and 増加する their size by 400 per cent, 妨げるing 腐食.< /p>

Its 決まり文句／製法 is said to be just as 効果的な for 強化するing tooth enamel, and 保護するing against 腐食, as fluoride.

But the 熟考する／考慮するs were not 成し遂げるd on people, say 専門家s, but 実験（する）d on pieces of tooth which had been 除去するd from the mouth.

Robert Hill, professor of dentistry at Queen Mary University of London, says: ‘A 実験（する） tube is not the same 環境 as a mouth. There’s no saliva, which 含む／封じ込めるs salts that can 影響する／感情 how minerals are drawn into the tooth. There may also be residual 酸性の or other 構内／化合物s swilling around that 衝撃 the results.’

One 重要な i ngredient is also 行方不明の: fluoride.

‘Whether you spend £1 or £100, fluoride is the most important 成分 in toothpaste,’ says Professor Damien Walmsley, a dental 専門家 from the British Dental 協会.

Taste 実験（する）:?It doesn’t look like any old cheap toothpaste, with a consistency closer to 直面する cream. But the flavour is nothing みごたえのある ? minty with a light aftertaste of chocolate.

Colgate elixir gum booster: £12

Colgate say it can beautify the gums, too, making this its first 製品 to 保護する tooth enamel and gum tissue. The 約束d ‘healthy smile’ comes from two different types of fluoride ? the mineral 設立する in water that 保護するs against tooth decay.

Even though the ‘elixir’ 含む／封じ込めるs two types of fluoride, it is no more 保護の than a £ 2 代案／選択肢.

‘This 含む／封じ込めるs stannous fluoride 同様に as the usual ナトリウム fluoride,’ says Dr Carter. ‘Stannous has extra anti-bacterial 所有物／資産／財産s but you can find both in プロの／賛成の-専門家 Oral-B toothpaste, which costs £2.’

Taste 実験（する）:?Soft in the mouth, a bit like a gel, and tastes like 造幣局 bubblegum.?

Colgate max white ultimate catalyst: £20

The （人命などを）奪う，主張する: Whitening toothpastes are not new. Most of the popular 製品s base their （人命などを）奪う，主張するs on the presence of a bleaching 成分 called hydrogen peroxide.

This 含む／封じ込めるs the same 構内／化合物 but with an 追加するd 特別手当: it is ‘enzyme 上げるd’. The 成分s are said to ‘work in synergy’ to make this 製品 their ‘most 効果的な whitening toothpaste, 逆転するing up to 15 years of discolouration’ in four weeks.

判決: ‘The enzyme here is 効果的な at 緩和するing and 解除するing patches of discolouration from tea or ワイン,’ says Dr Carter.

‘It is expensive, which explains the price tag. The enzyme 作品 with another 成分, silica, an abrasive 構内／化合物 that 肉体的に sheers off the stain.’

The bleach ? hydrogen peroxide ? is 比較して useless. ‘製品s on the high street aren’t 合法的に permitted to be strong enough to change the colour of the dentin of the teeth. Most cheap whitening toothpastes 含む／封じ込める silica 同様に as pyrophosphate, which stops coloured residue sticking to the teeth, and 妨げるs plaque,’ says Dr Carter.

判決: Regenerate may be 価値（がある） forking out for if you have 早期に 調印するs of enamel 腐食. The minerals in it, calcium silicate and ナトリウム phosphate, 連合させる to form hard 水晶s which stick to the teeth and make them hardier.

‘It is not 同一の to enamel but it is very 類似の,’ says Dr Carter.

‘It is a bit like putting nail varnish on your tooth but 結局 it becomes 統合するd into it. It is very clever 科学（工学）技術.’

Taste 実験（する）: It feels 厚い and claggy but tastes 甘い and minty.

Curaprox 黒人／ボイコット is White: £20

The （人命などを）奪う，主張する: 砕くd charcoal is in a host of beauty 製品s, from 直面する masks to lip balms. Curaprox 追加するd it to toothpaste for its ‘natural’ anti-bacterial 所有物／資産／財産s. They say the porous texture means it can 吸収する 構内／化合物s that stain teeth and bacteria that 与える／捧げるs to gum 病気, and that this whitens teeth in a gentler way with no potent peroxides or abrasive silica.

This £20 toothpaste could leave a 黒人／ボイコット 輪郭（を描く） surrounding a tooth-coloured filling?

判決: Dr Carter says: ‘The teeth look whiter because of the contrast of the 黒人／ボイコット with the white of the teeth. Once you spit out the 黒人／ボイコット gunk, it looks like your teeth are sparkling, but they are not.

‘And you wouldn’t want to put it 近づく a tooth-coloured filling. The charcoal could get stuck and look like you have a 黒人／ボイコット 輪郭（を描く） 一連の会議、交渉／完成する the tooth.’
