How a better diet could (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域 the 苦しむing of hayfever

While the 残り/休憩(する) of us welcome the lengthening days, Britain's ten million hayfever 苦しんでいる人s 迎える/歓迎する spring with dread at the prospect of months of sore, itchy 注目する,もくろむs and violent sneezing.

The bad news is that this year could be far worse than normal, with the 国家の Pollen 研究 部隊 予測(する)ing pollen levels five times higher than last year and の近くに to the highest ever pollen count, 記録,記録的な/記録するd in 1992.

Hayfever (seasonal allergic rhinitis or pollinosis) is an allergic reaction - usually 誘発する/引き起こすd by pollen, grasses or mould spores. It accounts for around 2.5 per cent of all GP visits and more than £50 million in 医薬 costs.

Although 従来の 治療s 含む antihistamines and steroids, there are 代案/選択肢s. One of the most 利益/興味ing theories 示唆するs that what you eat could 意味ありげに 影響する/感情 hayfever.

Naturopath Roger Newman Turner of the 研究 会議 for Complementary 薬/医学 says: 'In nearly 40 years of practice I have 設立する that diet plays a very important 役割 in the 管理/経営 of hayfever.

'Most of my hayfever 患者s have been able to 減ずる the severity of their symptoms and, in some 事例/患者s, eradicate the 条件.'

Nutritional health 専門家 Linda Lazarides agrees. She says: 'I have certainly heard of people getting rid of their hayfever using 栄養 alone, although it won't やむを得ず 後継する with everyone.'

Both 専門家s agree the nutritional approach to hayfever 伴う/関わるs cutting 負かす/撃墜する on foods which encourage mucus 生産/産物, while 上げるing foods that have natural antihistamine and anti-inflammatory 所有物/資産/財産s.

'除去する mucus-forming foods such as milk 製品s, sugar and 過度の starch,' says Mr Newman Turner. 'This will 減ずる catarrh and the worst of the streaming.

'A predominantly raw-food diet (fruit and vegetables) helps to 減ずる the inflammatory 傾向 and 患者s also do 井戸/弁護士席 on c leansing diets or even short 急速な/放蕩なs, under professional 監督.'

Linda Lazarides 追加するs: 'You need to 減ずる the 傾向 for the 団体/死体 to form histamine by 上げるing your diet with foods rich in calcium, magnesium, methionine and flavonoids. Have 負担s of nuts, sunflower seeds, onions, cabbage, blackberries and apples, 含むing their peel.

'Large 量s of ビタミン C are useful - it's a natural anti-histamine, and quercetin [a yellow pigment 設立する in 工場/植物s] is helpful too.'

Quercetin appears to 減ずる the 解放(する) of histamine from 独房s and is also believed to stabilise 独房 membranes so they are いっそう少なく reactive to allergens such as pollen.

Linda Lazarides also 報告(する)/憶測s that some people '答える/応じる 井戸/弁護士席 to large doses of bee pollen 補足(する)s, starting in 早期に spring'.

The 誘発する/引き起こすs for hayfever appear straightforward, so why does one person 苦しむ miserably while others remain sneeze-解放する/自由な? And why is hayfever on the 増加する in cities?

A 報告(する)/憶測 in New Scientist magazine asks whether the 傾向 to 工場/植物 male-only shrubs and trees in cities (to 避ける mess from fruit and seedlings) has led to the 増加する of hayfever in towns (only male 工場/植物s produce pollen).

Patrick Holford, of the 学校/設ける for Optimum 栄養, 公式文書,認めるs that 汚染物s such as exhaust ガス/煙s prime the 免疫の system to 反応する to other irritants.

And he says: 'It is 利益/興味ing to 公式文書,認める that the three most ありふれた 実体s 反応するd to [pollen, wheat and milk] are all 初めは grass 製品s. It may be that some hayfever 苦しんでいる人s become sensitised to proteins that are ありふれた to 穀物s, grasses and かもしれない milk.'

Kerrin Booth, naturopath, herbalist and nutritionist at Apotheke 20-20 in London, also advises hayfever 苦しんでいる人s to look at food intolerances.

'People often assume that because their symptoms are 悪化させるd by 空輸の allergens, food is not a problem for them,' she says. 'But often they also have foo d sensitivities which are 悪化させるing their symptoms.'

At the Chi Centre in London, they take an 統合するd approach. 国会, herbs and acupuncture are used と一緒に 従来の 治療s. As 患者s' symptoms 改善する, most can gently be 離乳するd off the steroids or antihistamines, and finally from the herbs themselves.

Samantha Arthur, 32, a models' スパイ/執行官, and her husband David, 33, a civil servant, both 設立する 救済 from their hayfever this way.

'It's not an instant 直す/買収する,八百長をする by any means,' says Samantha, 'but we have been impressed by the results. The first year my symptoms were much 減ずるd and finished far earlier.

FOODS TO EAT

Soya 製品s (if you want to 取って代わる 酪農場).

Fish: high in omega 3 fatty 酸性のs which have an anti-inflammatory 影響.

All vegetables other than tomatoes.

All fruits other than oranges.

Raw, unsalted nuts and seeds.

Garlic and onion.

Fruit, honey, maple syrup, brown rice syrup or barley malt as sweeteners if 要求するd.

Beans, lentils and tofu.

Herbal teas.

Drink two litres of water a day.

FOODS TO AVOID

酪農場 製品s: 増加する mucus 生産/産物.

Meat: arachidonic 酸性の 与える/捧げるs to allergic and inflammatory reactions.

Wheat and wheat 製品s such as pasta, bread and noodles.

Caffeine and alcohol: a congested 肝臓 can 増加する hay fever symptoms.

Tomatoes, oranges, cheese, red ワイン, chocolate: 含む/封じ込める histamine.
