Hannah just thought she was 存在 clumsy, but her bruises were a 調印する she needed to see her doctor
Hannah Newman-Smith thought she was 簡単に 存在 more clumsy than usual ― how else to explain the angry bruises that kept popping up all over her 武器 and 脚s.
It wasn’t just that the bruises were more たびたび（訪れる）, she’d get them even if she knocked herself わずかに. They were also much bigger than normal, says Hannah, 34, a wedding stylist, who lives in Liverpool with her husband Daniel, 36, an office 経営者／支配人, and their two-year-old daughter.
‘One time my daughter caught me above my 注目する，もくろむ with a remote 支配（する）／統制する, and even though it was barely a touch I ended up with a 大規模な 黒人／ボイコット 注目する，もくろむ. It was weird,’ she says.
The bruises made Hannah self-conscious, 特に when she had several of them 明白な on her 武器 and 脚s at a friend’s wedding.
‘It was a bit embarrassing, as it looked like I’d been in a fight,’ she says. ‘I didn’t really know how I’d got the bruises.’
The unusual bruising had started sporadically in 早期に summer last year, but within weeks new bruises were appearing every other day and いつかs taking weeks to disappear.
‘Looking 支援する, I’d also been feeling more tired than usual and I was really pale ― though I just put that 負かす／撃墜する to 存在 a new mum, as my daughter was only a year old,’ she says.
Hannah’s periods were also much heavier than normal. But it wasn’t until she struggled on a family walk that she decided to see a GP.

‘The family were all joking that I wasn’t as fit as I used to be and I laughed it off, but my mum 示唆するd I get a 血 実験（する） as I might be anaemic.’
Bruises are 普通は 原因（となる）d when small 血 大型船s (capillaries) under the surface of the 肌 are broken by a bump or 傷害. This 原因（となる）s 血 to 漏れる out: 結局 this is re-吸収するd by the 団体／死体 and the bruise fades.
But a number of factors can lead to people bruising more easily, explains Dr Ann Nainan, a London GP who 作品 in a hospital 緊急の care department.
These 含む age (the 肌 thins as a result of collagen loss and capillaries become more 壊れやすい) when it’s known as ‘senile purpura’. This typically 影響する／感情s the 手渡すs, forearms, 直面する and neck ― the bruises can take several months to fade.
一方／合間, ‘simple purpura’ is a usually 害のない 条件 that 原因（となる）s bruising on the 武器 and 脚s of さもなければ healthy women in their 20s and 30s, and may be associated with 激しい periods.
平易な bruising can also be a 味方する-影響 of 医薬 such as the 血 thinner warfarin, corticosteroids or 非，不，無-steroidal anti-inflammatory 麻薬s such as ibuprofen. It can also be 原因（となる）d by 激しい drinking and 肝臓 or 腎臓 病気s (these 組織／臓器s help make 構成要素s for 血 clotting).
いっそう少なく 一般的に it can be a 調印する of an underlying, more serious, health 条件 such as haemophilia or leukaemia.
By the time Hannah 接触するd her GP she’d been having symptoms for six to eight weeks. She was 調書をとる／予約するd in for a 血 実験（する）, but before she could have it, she bumped her lip 倍のing up a （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する at a photoshoot.
‘It swelled up 権利 away and was 全く disproportionate to the slight knock I’d had,’ 解任するs Hannah. ‘By the time I’d driven home, my gums had turned 黒人／ボイコット and I’d started bleeding ひどく from my mouth. It was やめる scary.’
Hannah tried to 減ずる the swelling with a 捕らえる、獲得する of frozen peas, to no 影響.
The next day she went to see her GP, who すぐに 調書をとる／予約するd her in for an 緊急 血 実験（する） at the 地元の hospital.
‘I didn’t really know what to 推定する／予想する and still wasn’t too worried, but then my 血 実験（する） results （機の）カム 支援する a few hours later and they said I needed a bone 骨髄 生体検査,’ she says.
‘This really 脅すd me, as I knew it could be 関係のある to 癌. I phoned Daniel and started to cry ― and he cried, too, which he’d never done with me before.’
Hannah was 認める for the 生体検査 and kept in for a week and given 輸血s because she was worringly low in 血 clotting platelets and red and white 血 独房s.
It was going to take three weeks for the 生体検査 results and Hannah, unsurprisingly, began 研究ing her symptoms online. ‘I’d gone from 存在 a tired, sleep-奪うd working mum who just felt a bit run 負かす／撃墜する, to 潜在的に having a life-脅すing illness like leukaemia ― and the only symptoms I’d had were bruising and feeling a bit below par. I could barely take it in.’
In fact, she had aplastic anaemia, or bone 骨髄 失敗, a rare, but serious, 血 条件 where the bone 骨髄 can’t make enough red or white 血 独房s or platelets.
There are just 100 to 150 事例／患者s 診断するd every year in the UK (it’s more ありふれた in ten to 20-year-olds and 60 to 65-year-olds).
The most usual 原因（となる） in adults is the 免疫の system attacking the bone 骨髄 茎・取り除く 独房s that make 血 独房s and platelets. While in most 事例／患者s there’s no obvious 誘発する／引き起こす, in one in ten it occurs after a viral 感染 ― most 一般的に, 肝炎.
Chemotherapy and 放射線療法 can also 原因（となる） a transient form of bone 骨髄 失敗.
It can develop within months, or over several years, and 変化させる in severity from 穏やかな to life-脅すing, where 患者s are more susceptible to 感染s such as sepsis or uncontrollable bleeding.
同様に as unexplained or 過度の bruising, symptoms 含む 疲労，（軍の）雑役 and shortness of breath (a 欠如（する） of red 血 独房s 減ずるs the oxygen 輸送（する）d around the 団体／死体); bleeding gums; pale 肌; nosebleeds and 激しい periods ― 同様に as 長引かせるd, 頻発する and たびたび（訪れる） 感染s (white 血 独房s are 重要な to the 免疫の system).
‘When I was told it wasn’t 癌 but aplastic anaemia, I felt some 救済 最初 as I didn’t realise the 真面目さ of the 条件,’ says Hannah. ‘It was only later that it began to 沈む in that I could die.’
While some people are more 傾向がある to bruising, if it’s new for you, 特に if you have other symptoms, it should be checked, says Dr Muhammad Saif, a 顧問 in haemato-oncology and director of bone 骨髄 移植（する）s at the Clatterbridge 癌 Centre NHS 創立／基礎 信用 in Liverpool (who 扱う／治療するd Hannah).
‘The time to worry about bruises is if they are 過度の and 頻発する and happening without any or very little 外傷／ショック.’
にもかかわらず 正規の／正選手 輸血s, that autumn Hannah was 認める to hospital with in fections about once a month.
‘I seemed to be going downhill 急速な／放蕩な,’ she says. ‘I felt weak and tired and いつかs I’d sleep on the sofa all day. I struggled even to walk upstairs to the bathroom. I wasn’t 脅すd ― but I felt numb.
Once the 茎・取り除く 独房s are 設立するd, they start to produce red and white 血 独房s and platelets and new 免疫の 独房s called lymphocytes. Together, these 独房s help to build a new, healthy 免疫の system
‘My doctors explained a bone 骨髄 [茎・取り除く 独房] 移植（する） could cure me and that siblings were a good match in one in four 事例／患者s, but unfortunately my sister, Gemma, wasn’t a match, which was 破滅的な.’
During this time, Hannah was put on ATG (anti-thymocyte globulin), which 的s the 異常な 免疫の 独房s attacking the bone 骨髄. But it didn’t work and she needed a 移植（する） ― fortunately in May a good match was 設立する .
Dr Saif says a successful bone 骨髄 移植（する） is a cure. The 治療 itself first 伴う／関わるs chemotherapy to wipe out the 患者’s 免疫の and remaining bone 骨髄 独房s, then the 茎・取り除く 独房s are adminstered like a 輸血.
‘They very cleverly find their way to the bone 骨髄 and then start to proliferate,’ explains Dr Saif.
Once the 茎・取り除く 独房s are 設立するd, they start to produce red and white 血 独房s and platelets and new 免疫の 独房s called lymphocytes. Together, these 独房s help to build a new, healthy 免疫の system.
‘Until then, the 患者 is 極端に 攻撃を受けやすい to 感染,’ says Dr Saif. ‘We 扱う／治療する them with 抗生物質s, antivirals and antifungal 麻薬s as a 警戒 and they have to stay in an 孤立／分離 区.’
Hannah says the four weeks she spent in 孤立／分離 were difficult as she couldn’t see her daughter. ‘I could only speak to her on FaceTime. Only my mum and Daniel were 許すd to visit me, and they had to wear masks and gowns.’
After 存在 発射する／解雇するd, Hannah was still 許すd only 限られた／立憲的な 接触する with others until the 100-day 示す, when the new bone 骨髄 is 推定する／予想するd to be working.
‘It’s still 早期に days but it looks like the 移植（する） has been a success,’ says Hannah.
‘I’m getting my life 支援する slowly and enjoying playing with my daughter and hope to start work again soon, but I could have died if a 寄贈者 match hadn’t been 設立する.
‘I would 勧める anyone with unexplained 過度の bruising problems like 地雷 to see their doctor ― there could be another, underlying 原因（となる）.’
